Justin Shultz signed with Seattle for 3.0m per two seasons.
Reasonable for him and his age, but I'm a little surprised the Caps would not offer him close to that (not that I would).  He must have wanted to move to go play for Seattle....either that or he figures he has enough Cup rings already and he likes the Seattle scene.

Caps now have $1.85m remaining in Cap room.  That does not include any relief from Hags or Backy should the Caps choose to use it.

$1.85m doesn't buy any real talent at Center or on D.  I'm figuring the Caps get one more bargain journeymen D and then maybe give some young guys a shot at playing this year. 
Kuemper is gonna have to earn his wins this year.  McMichael better be eating his Wheaties with a big helping of Poutine with extra gravy on the side

Hags own comments would indicate he is done in the NHL. I expect Johnson-Fjallby to continue to fill that spot without a problem. Backy, who the ef knows. Statistically it’s not likely he will return and if he can it’s highly likely that’s 12 months from now. Caps management needs to be thinking about a short term replacement, if not a long term one. I don’t see a #2 center in Hershey in the short term. By the time a long term center would be ready in Hershey this team is going to need a couple of them. How much longer are Eller, Dowd and Kuzy going to be around?

When I open it - it does not show any of the player positions.  I assume the top section is forwards, the middle D men and the bottom is G, but I would think it would tell me.

Caps did.....or WILL resign Matt Irwin...unofficially agreed to terms.  Another bargain D. 
Not really a surprise.  They seem to like him and he's kind of a stable journeyman D.  Basically a fill in and injury insurance.


Caps still talking to Mojo.  I get the feeling he will sign with Caps IF he does not get a better offer.  BIG IF

I'm actually pretty cool with that.  I'd say that a fair price for him and 1 year is pretty awesome. I expect that is about the price he'd fetch elsewhere.


Could probably help with our need for fill in guys and he CAN play center if needed.  He still has decent speed (for a fucking old guy)

Make that a 2nd Round pick.  Obviously it is worth it to give away another high draft pick for a one year player since we are serious Cup contenders and our farm system is so rich with prospects....

Welp, I "guess" we got a goalie.. Haven't seen anyone overly excited about it. I only saw him in a couple SCF games. Whatever.. We're probably gonna struggle to keep up if Ovi isn't on fire. Missing Willy and Nicky (caliber) is gonna make our offense offensive, imo. Still think the Russian kid was our "yay" moment this offseason. Guess it'll be a couple years before we get to see him much. Oh well, that's Caps hockey for ya!

The Caps have released the preseason schedule….

Sun 9/25 vs. Buffalo at 2pm
Wed 9/28 at Pilly at 7pm
Fri 9/30 at Detroit at 7:30pm
Sat 10/1 at Columbus at 7pm
Weds 10/5 vs. Detroit at 7pm
Sat 10/8 vs. Columbus at 7pm

and, the Caps open the season at home vs the Bruins on Wednesday October 12 at 7pm

Well they made about as big a splash as could be expected with the goalie trade and them "planning for" Backy's return pretty much dictated the rest.  You need to fill 3+ roster spots with a total of $3m Cap space doesn't get you much.  All these guys are basically bargain fill-ins.  Irwin, Brown, Mojo.
The Brown guy looks like a fill-in for Hags as a PK specialist to me.
All the twit responses on the Twitter are very negative about the Mojo signing.  I don't really have issue with it.  It's one year at fair price for a known entity.  I'm not expecting Mojo to light up the scoring sheet, but then....I'm not expecting that from any $1m guy.

All the "big" twits are saying it's done?  And I just realized, the Mojo signing probably fucks Snively..    He's got a 1 way contract and I assume will be stuck in Hershey unless someone gets hurt. (Or wasted sitting in the press box all year)
