Oh, and a news flash - Nats still stink

Lost 6-1 to the Rays.

Starting "pitcher" Anibal Sanchez went 4.1 innings allowing 6 runs.  Really?  this is the best we can do for starting pitching?  Not that the team hitting helped scoring only one run.

There's got to be a silver lining here somewhere....

Well... the 3 relief pitchers combined 3.2 innings of shutout baseball allowing only 2 hits  (too bad starter allowed 6 runs)

Nats only have a shot at winning if Max or Corbin is the starter, AND they have a quality start that goes 7 innings, AND the hitters show up to score more than 1 or 2 runs....AND they are playing a team other than the Braves or the Phillies....or the Rays...

when kaeperdick started with his protests, every single team that followed suit had a losing record for those three years. I think davey has distracted the team with his bullshit

Nats pull one out in the 10th with a HR by youngest player in MLB....Garcia.

I did not know he was that young, but good on him.

Voth pitched well....lasted 5 innings, gave up 1 run.  The bullpen did well.  Hudson gets the win (despite giving up tying HR in bottom of the ninth...which is about as shitty as you can get for a closer), but lucky for him Garcia got HR in 10th while Hudson was still pitcher of record (even though he did not pitch the 10th)

Nats are now 18-29 so only 9.5 Games back.  ::)

Only Shittsburgh has fewer wins than the Nats 18W in the entire MLB  (Texas also has 18)

WTH are we supposed to watch for sports come October?  Since the NHL wasted next season on this stupid throw away one.

So it's the blots vs the stars in the finals, may watch a little of it

the NHL had said the 20-21 season will start in December and will be 82 games, but I don't believe that. It will take three more seasons to get back to the October season start if they stick with 82 games for the 2021 season, it doesn't look like next season will start before January 1 either.

Nats playing a double header today, single game tomorrow and double-header Sunday.
two are makeup games, but 5 games in 3 days?  That's pretty tough on your pitching staff.
By Sunday Nats are gonna see what position players can through the pill from the hill

And today's double header (and we're talking baseball here Zero, NOT one of your....thingy's) didn't start until after 5.   They do realize two baseball games is like 6-7 hours to play.

Or did they shorten the makeup games to 7 innings or something (I seem to recall that from an earlier game)  Regardless....why not still start the 1st game earlier?

Knew the pitching would be a struggle, and the Nats have 3 more games over today and tomorrow. Good luck with our pitching staff.

the sun has set at la Sarthe, and now a thunder storm is moving in

it's on the motor trend station, 870 on comcast HD

this is actually rather sad to watch, usually it's a four day party with carnival rides that are open 36 hours straight, there are zero spectators there this year

it was an odd race though, it's normally run in June when there is the most daylight, and cars were running hot because of leafs getting caught in the cooling systems

I was watching bits of Nats baseball over the weekend(yes, I am a glutton for punishment).  Remember they had 5 games in 3 days

Couple things....

1)  We suck.   Well, that pretty much sums up all the things

Max (our best pitcher) starts Sunday's G1 double-header and we lose 2-1.  Really?  you can't give the one guy on our team who can hold them to 2 runs a win?
And by the way....Sherzer pitched well enough to win - both runs allowed were unearned, including what should have been inning ending 3rd out grounder in the bottom 6th which was bobbled at first resulting in the runner safe (and the guy on third scored).  SHOULD have been three outs to end the inning, but.....NO....Nats baseball this year.
Then we split the second (college) double-header of the day and score 15 runs?
I actually saw the start of the game....Turner rocked the very 1st pitch of the game for a lead-off Home Run.  Nats went on to hit 5 HR in the game and win 15-0 in 18 hits (in 7 innings)
Nats "Rookie" pitcher got a start - Ben Braymer pitched really well -= 5 innings of shutout ball allowing just 1 hit.  He had some voodoo magic or something, cause his 89mph fastball shouldn't really cut it in the biggs.  Hey, I'll take it...guy pitched well
Sherzer is like...where the fuck were you guys earlier in the day when I was pitching?

Nats were at one point 19-31 over the weekend (and now 20-32) which oddly enough is exactly where they started last year....when they won the World Series.  Too bad they don't have those extra 100 games to make up the difference this year.

Nats are 10.5 games back from Atlanta and 5.0 games back of any hope of a wild card spot with 8 games remaining in the season.  It's over folks.
Mathematically speaking....they could still get in, but it would take monumental collapse of ALL 6 wildcard teams ahead of them (not counting the other 6 teams in #1,2 spots ahead of them)
AND winning all 8 games remaining in order for it to happen.

At least hockey season starts in a month...oh...wait....they screwed that pooch didn't they?  We still playing this year's Covid Cup.  I'm not into it.  Watched about 2 minutes and just couldn't get interested.

GO Caps

Go Nats

Awe shit.....GO...to Hell.

One messed up thing about this MLB covid stupidity season is with the over generous playoff parameters with two teams from each division getting in as well as two additional wild card teams....there will probably be some teams making the playoffs with at best a .500 record.
3 of 4 current teams in the east fighting for 2 wildcard spots have exactly .500 record, with Philthy leading the pack with a whopping one game over .500 currently.

I mean I get it, but seems overly generous compared to what is normally a very long grueling season where a very limited number of teams actually make the playoffs. Normally after 160 games only three teams get in plus 1 wild card team (okay, two wildcards get one game to fight for 4th spot)

Seams kind of silly to have 160 game season for 30 teams and only 6 guaranteed spots for division leaders.  Sometimes the teams in 2nd place in one division have better records than other 1st place teams and they get screwed.

MLB needs to address that a bit I think.  Not saying 16 teams should get in , but maybe do more like NHL where division leaders get in then maybe 3 more from east & west.

I guess you can't do it with 12 teams, but then maybe do a short 3game wildcard playoff to let 3 wild cards get down to 1

Yeah, Rich...like we need to stretch out the MLB season further.... :raspberry:

to add to the stupidity of the MLB this year, there are way too many interleague games with the shortened season

this season does prove what I've been saying for years though, the season is entirely too long,
a 150 game season would be plenty

Yep.  or even 140 or 132.  I mean you really need 160 games to decide?  Knock out one game for each opponent each year and what does that total?  Now with interleague play you could easily manipulate the number to what you want
I know all the stats and records and crap will go bonkers if you change the season, but then, there is no real fair comparison between eras anyway.

162 games is nonsense.  drop 12-18 or so games and Knock off a couple weeks of the season or throw in a day of rest every other week.
and changes the playoff format.  you play 162 games and only 6 + 2 teams get in?

What's the plan for start of 2021 season?  I mean this season is going to go to November.

Does Ryan Zimmerman return next year?  He'll be 36....in a week

Jesus, the Nats are playing today and have another double-header tomorrow.
THat's 8 games in 5 days plus travel.  Three double-headers in 5 days  That's insane.  Talk about wear and tear.  I guess with the Nats cellar dwelling, they can get the younger guys alot of work, but that's still a tough schedule for your pitching staff.

Nats beat the Phillies!! Woot Woot.

Annie Sanchez actually pitched for a win.  She managed 5 whole innings allowing 1 run.  The relief pitching allowed 0 runs over 4 innings.

The only thing remotely interesting in this is that the Phillies desperately need every win they can muster.  They are exactly even in the Wildcard race which means they are in the #2 (last) wildcard spot currently. - .5 games behind Cincinnati and .5 game ahead of Milwaukee and San Fran.
SanFran and Milwaukee both have a game in hand.  Cincin has played one more game, so all four of these guys are really neck and neck.
If SF and Milwaukee both win their game in hand, they will all three be exactly tied for last WC spot.  Not sure what the tie-breaker scenario is for this.

Losing to the lowly Nats has to be a real bite in the ole balls for Philthy.

Saint Louis is practically tied with Cincin in NL Centeral, but has played fewer games so technically in 2nd place in the NL Central so they could flip flop easily.

Marlins are 1.0 game up on Philthy for 2nd spot in NL east so Philthy could pass them.  It's pretty close for the WC spots.

Which brings me to a question...thought....I know the format is different this year with top 2 teams from each division getting in as well as 2 WC teams total in each League (NL, AL).  So it's possible both WC teams come from the same division.  That would allow 4 teams (1/2 of the 8 total in the playoffs in the NL) from one division (sorry for the advance math there)

The NL Central has Cincinnati .5 game up and Milwaukee .5 game back, so they could conceivably both make it.

So as not to discount any chickens....Colorado and Mets are 2.5 and 3.0 back....but that's a tall order for either to make that up in 8 or so games remaining.

If the Nats actually play well the next couple days and beat Philthy (and Alta's favorite player) 3 more times, we could actually knock them out of the playoff race....and actually be meaningful for something (helping a team lose...which we have much experience at so...)

Nats are 5.5 games out of WC spot with 7 games to play...so technically (for Alta)  we're still in this  :)

(nobody tell Alta the fat lady was spotted site-seeing in DC yesterday....kind of hanging around near Nats Park)

And Yes....this is THE BOREDOM THREAD.

Davey seemed like a good manager, until this season. The only real difference between this and last year is the loss of Rendon. With that and Zimm sitting the year out because he believed the bullshit there is a huge hole in the batting lineup. It also looks like it's time for a new pitching coach.

We did lose our World Series MVP pitcher as well.  Although... I believe he was absolutely outstanding last year, I also believe that was pretty much the career year for Stras.  I know we have always relied on him as one of our cornerstones, but when you build on sand.....

I know he was due a pay raise and had a contract clause allowing him to opt out...which smartly he did, I just wondered at the time if we should've tested the waters and maybe let him go see what he got elsewhere.  "We" just ran up right up and bent over and said here....have at it.  Didn't even let the World Series shine rub off or anything before we got all sloppy with his new deal.  Sounds silly for a guy who was paramount in just getting you the World Series and a guy you have built your team on to consider letting him walk after a season like that but.....
IF he can't stay healthy (and that's certainly a legit concern with him)....that big whopping contract is going to look pretty ugly for years to come.  Got us a whole five innings for our $35 mil this year.

Hopefully I'm just being negative, and ownership/management certainly would have looked liked total asshole idiots to let him walk, and I really don't blame them for awarding a new contract.
I just wonder if it was smart given his fragility and age.  I'm sure they know his condition much better than us, and this season was a throw away, but...maybe time will tell.

Go.....oh who cares.
