Cars been burning up like that all year. Definite safety hazard how easy they catch on fire. I think that's the 3rd one in the last 4-5 races.

Kyle's motor was either a missed shift or just a toyota issue. Motor's the one thing left that nascar doesn't "supply"..

as I understand it, these cars can’t miss a shift anymore, but a driver can downshift when they are going too fast and over rev it. Over reving can cause valve float which will make the valves impact the pistons. That will bend valves and or break pistons. I did see an article that said Toyota is having the two engines that failed shipped to their facility in California. I’m curious what Toyota finds when they tear them down. Maybe sour puss boy accidentally down shifted on the restart, which I find unlikely.

Nats are 37 games back with 27 to play  (48w-87L).  Looks like they are going to hang on to the very worst record in baseball, but Pittsburgh is trying to compete for that (49-84)

MLB added a third wildcard spot this year - which I think is prudent given the number of games played and the quality of teams that get bumped previously simply by being in a tough division.
With the new format, and as it stands now - THREE teams would make the playoffs from the Nats' NL East Division.  1st place Mets, 2nd place Braves (WC#1), Phillies (WC#2).  Braves could pull ahead of the Mets - now only 1 game back.  Braves won 5 in a row and Mets lost their last 2 to greatly close the gap to 1.  Braves currently 2nd in NL East have a better record than NL central #1 or any other 2nd place team....Basically the third best record in the NL behind the Dodgers and Mets.
New wildcard round will be best of three games with WC1 vs WC2, and WC3 vs D3 (lowest record division winner).  D1, D2 winners get a bye.  I prefer this to the previous 1 game Wildcard playoff between the two WC teams.  Especially since, often times the Wildcard teams had a better record than some of the D2 & D3 winners.

FFS the hockey season can't get here fast enough...you've got me diatribing about baseball wildcard series.

They're sequential shift. Push the stick forward to downshift, pull it back to upshift. It was more common at the start of the season, to think you were going from 2nd to 3rd (H pattern) and push it back into 1st. I "heard" Kyle may of done it, earlier in the race, but didn't hear any confirmation. Truex had debris or something knock his belt off (serpentine belt runs everything.) No oil pressure, blew up.

Caps first of six preseason games is September 25. Caps open the season at home vs the Bs October 12.

I think I will start a new boredom thread when camp starts.

Saw something about national games and a few start times that have been adjusted. If it pops up again tomorrow I'll post it. IIRC they said 13 national tv games though.

a speech she gave in Philly

Here on July 6, 1976, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain presented the Bicentennial Bell to the people of the United States, in these words:

I speak to you as the direct descendant of King George III. He was the last Crowned Sovereign to rule in this country, and it is therefore with a particular personal interest that I view those events which took place 200 years ago.

It seems to me that Independence Day, the Fourth of July, should be celebrated as much in Britain as in America. Not in rejoicing at the separation of the American Colonies from the British Crown, but in sincere gratitude to the Founding Fathers of this great Republic for having taught Britain a very valuable lesson.

We lost the American Colonies because we lacked that statesmanship "to know the right time, and the manner of yielding, what is impossible to keep".

But the lesson was learnt. In the next century and a half we kept more closely to the principles of Magna Carta which have been the common heritage of both countries.

We learnt to respect the right of others to govern themselves in their own ways. This was the outcome of experience learned the hard way in 1776. Without that great act in the cause of liberty performed in Independence Hall two hundred years ago, we could never have transformed an Empire into a Commonwealth!

Ultimately peace brought a renewal of friendship which has continued and grown over the years and has played a vital part in world affairs. Together we have fought in two world wars in the defence of our common heritage of freedom. Together we have striven to keep the peace so dearly won. Together, as friends and allies, we can face the uncertainties of the future, and this is something for which we in Britain can also celebrate the Fourth of July.

This morning I saw the famous Liberty Bell. It came here over 200 years ago when Philadelphia, after London, was the largest English speaking city in the world. It was cast to commemorate the Pennsylvania Charter of Privileges, but is better known for its association with the Declaration of Independence.

Today, to mark the 200th anniversary of that declaration, it gives me the greatest pleasure, on behalf of the British people, to present a new bell to the people of the United States of America. It comes from the same foundry as the Liberty Bell, but written on the side of this Bicentennial Bell are the words "Let Freedom Ring".

It is a message in which both our people can join and which I hope will be heard around the world for centuries to come.

looks good on paper, it will be interesting to see how it plays out…

Referees will now be able to nullify a major penalty after video review.

May be an image of text that says 'When I was a boy my dad gave me money to go downtown and pay the electric bill but instead I bought raffle tickets for a chance to win a new truck. I told my dad when I got home and he beat my ass but the next morning in the driveway sat a brand new truck. We all held each other and cried, especially me because it was the truck from the electric company there to turn off the lights. ...Dad beat my ass again.'

I still want know what exactly that issue is. There’s not very many ways an engine suddenly blows oil out the exhaust.

and last week post race I believe Denny accused sour puss face of “missing a shift” as it is in these new cars
