So let me get this straight....The Nationals traded the best hitter in baseball, with likely the brightest future in the MLB (Jaun Soto), AND another MLB quality player (Josh Bell, 1B) away to another team for.....one mediocre MLB player (1B) and 5 prospects?
This team.....must be a Washington team.
Trading a 23 year old Soto in the early years of his prime is like trading Ovechkin at age 23....for a couple bags of pucks. Of course baseball is different and Soto was going to walk off to free agency, so I guess the Nats traded him to get something out of it. Maybe if they hadn't signed a worn out Strasburg to a ridiculously long contract, and let Rendon walk, let Harper walk, and traded Trea Turner, and traded Max Scherzer, then Soto might have been interested in that $440 million dollar contract to stay and possibly win. Fuck, I don't blame him for wanting off this trash team. Spend the rest of his career on a trash team? He is still going to get paid and no way can the Padres afford to keep him. Padres already the 5th highest team salary in baseball (sure surprised me). They can't afford another $30mil on top of that to sign Soto next year. Well, maybe they can, WTF do I know about baseball. Do they even have a salary cap?
Washington sports franchises sure do find a way to destroy any hope a fan has...of being a fan.
