Yep, I'd of tried the Mojo @ 1.5, if we had room for him. Pretty much play any line if needed.

its the boring time of year for hockey fans, the two team news site have posted less than an article per day for the past 9 days and the actual team site has been far less active

the other reason the Vrana trade was a good one. I dont see a $5.5M a year player in him. He's got the potential, just doesnt use it well, yet...

TJ Oshie....5.75m/year

Tom Wilson....5.1m/year.

Jakub Vrana....5.75/year....

Granted, the Wilson contract is bargain if you ask me, and Oshie is definitely in the declining years of his career, but Jake just aint in the same ball park with these MEN.
He's a kid with great talent who's had plenty of opportunity to show/prove it and comes up a bit short.  I liked him quite a bit at one point but NO WAY is he worth north of 4 mil.
His pouting like a little bitch when shit wasn't going his way cost him his opportunity here and shaved millions off his future salary.  Teams don't want to deal with that shit for what is basically a one way player with "great potential".  Especially one that has shown he wilts under pressure.

I don't mean to be so harsh on Vrana - I really did like him, but he soiled his own bed if you ask me....and it is going to cost him in salary and benefit of the doubt.

5.75 mill puts you in the top 125-130 highest paid players in league (of roughly 700 players)

Looking at the guys currently making in that 5.75 range and .....Jakub is not quite there.

Sadly, looking at the list....the current very lowest paid player in the NHL....Vitek Vanacek at $716k

And if you consider the current value of the market and the flat cap.  I bet 5.75 would fetch you a whole lot more player in FA than a Vrana.

Vrana got a $1.5M raise, 3 years at $5.25M per...
https://novacapsfans.com/2021/08/10/jakub-vrana-signs-three-year-15-75-million-contract-with-red-wings-to-avoid-arbitration/

That's nearly as dumb as paying Mantha 5.7 per.. Couple of 3.5 million dollar players getting 5+..  :smirk:

Yeah, usually its the Capitals overpaying a contract, but they inherited the Mantha one.  I guess Detroit has money to burn on "unproven" talent.
Jake's got talent and speed to burn, but $5.25 is too much for him.

Makes him Detroit's third highest paid player behind Nick Leddy $5.5m, and Dylan Larkin $6.1m

Maybe 5 years ago the market could bear that for Vrana, but in a cap frozen period, they overpaid.

You telling me Vrana is worth nearly as much to the team as Dylan Larkin?

And worth MORE than Tyler Bertuzzi, who they just resigned for only two years at 4.75

Good for him.  I hope it works for him in Detroit.  Maybe the need for speed and scoring there will outweigh any "shortages" in the other end of his game.

And for Heaven's sake, I know it's summertime, but you'd think the Caps could post SOMETHING new on their website every couple weeks or so.
Even pics of players at their summer barbeques or something.

I guess Monumental Sports is only a seasonal business?

And another thing...

With the Caps current Roster they have $688k in cap space so...

they don't have room to put Fever....or Mcmichael...or Alexiev....or ANYONE up on the roster without moving a guy off.

Saw a video of Orlov doing his offseason leg workouts yesterday.. Looks stupid hard. I'd break both knees doing the 1st set, plus Im sure a hammy would snap.

You need to dial up "Twitter" and follow the Caps reporters/players.. Lots of good info there and the info (lines, etc) comes a lot sooner then waiting for a website to get updated..

The players are working out and the preseason schedule is known. Seems to me the team knows exactly when camp will start but is keeping it secret for some fucking reason.

Nats are...still being the Nats.

Lost 5 in a row and 9/10.  They are striving hard to achieve the cellar position.  (One more loss could do it)

Philty had a good run and jumped into 1st, but then Atlanta has now won 8 of last 10 and jumped into 1st (actually identical record to Philthy)

Lucky Braves get to beat up on the Nats the next two games and then 3 vs Miami and then 3 vs Orioles, so I suspect they will manage to hold onto 1st place over the next 2 weeks.  These next 8 games are against three very week teams.

Yes, I know....who cares..., but it IS the BOREDOM thread :raspberry:

Nats should've canned Davey last year, the team was falling apart before he got political and has only gotten worse sense
