sooo.... for this season at least, the AHL affiliate for Seattle is the Charlotte Checkers. Which is also the AHL affiliate for the Florida Panthers.

I'm sure Seattle will contract with a team closer to home within a year or two, but, how do two different pro teams draw on the same minor league team

the 21-22 schedule has been released, participation in the Olympics is still being determined so everything after the all star/olympic break is tentative...

https://novacapsfans.com/2021/07/22/capitals-release-2021-22-regular-season-schedule/

if buttman decides the players can't go to the Olympics there won't be a need for a three week break

The Nats lost 3 in a row...to the Orioles.   8-0

The fucking Orioles?  I bet they have not won three games in a row in the past 3 seasons.

The fucking Orioles?

(actually it was 4 in a row, but the last game was the Phillies...who the Nats play again tonight so maybe we can burn the streak to 5 miserable losses in a row)

What a waste of talent Soto and Turner are on this team.  Poor guys.

has his game declined that much or is Vancouver that big of a mess...

https://novacapsfans.com/2021/07/27/report-canucks-trade-former-capitals-defenseman-nate-schmidt-to-jets-for-2022-third-round-pick/
I didn't read the story, but heard he waived his NTC to make it happen. So, maybe -he- wanted out?

Vancouver is making a bunch of moves.  Not surprised about Holtby - he had a shit year last year.

Tyler Johnson traded from Tampa to Chicago (what fun for him) in exchange for Brent Seabrook.  Which, after reading the article says Seabrook's playing days are over after several hip surgeries.
So what exactly is the purpose of a trade for a guy who has announced his playing days are done?  I realize Tampa just needs to shed salary after winning the cup (being $17mil OVER the cap), but what is the point of acquiring a guy who won't ever play again?
https://www.nhl.com/news/avalanche-sign-gabriel-landeskog-to-eight-year-contract/c-325832748

Free agency starts today, no?  That should be interesting.  With a flat cap players are going to have to bite the bullet a bit with their expectations.

Fluery traded to Chicago - sounds like a surprise to him.  (Maybe he can sulk with Tyler Johnson).  Look at the bright side...maybe Chicago is a nice town to live in.

From what I gather, it lets them circumvent the cap rules AGAIN via the LTIR loophole. Apparently you can go -OVER- the cap as much as the players salary. So they get to go 8+ million over, with the acquisition of Seabrook. And they removed initial cap by whatever they saved moving Johnson. All legal via the (gm/owner approved) CBA. Just need an owner with a checkbook and a gm who doesn't mind using the grey areas of the rules.. :-\  I guess once the playoffs start you can bring them off LTIR (Kucherov was it, last year?) and they can actually play.. But they "think" Seabrook will "probably" retire..

Holtby signs 1 year deal with Dallas Stars @ 2mil

Yea, people get fixated on players and don't even care if they're still any good or at what cost. Wish they'd of signed him for 5 or 6 years.  :snicker:

Agree.  2mil is probably fair for him.  Might be worth 1/2 a bag of pucks at this point though.

Anybody notice goalies is the one thing the Caps seem to be consistently good at drafting?  I wonder how much of that was related to Mitch Korn?

Holtbeast
Grubauer
Varlamov
Samsonov
Vitek
Neuvirth
Kolzig (was he drafted by the Caps?)

That's a pretty fair list of goalies who have had pretty good success in the NHL.

Huh?
Wasn't Mitch Korn post Neuvy and Varly?  I thought he was semi=retired before he agreed to come and coach Holtby and co.
Kolzig was his aprentice, I think.  As a goalie coach, I mean.
Am I wrong?

Either way, we need a decent goalie coach.    :-|

Rangers giving up a roster spot to pay a goon, who can't even play hockey.. They're gonna be in a pickle if Willy kicks his ass.   Hopefully we get to see if Mantha can fight too! We're probably gonna have a few teams trying to test us, since we moved Dillon..

Honestly, I was going to mention the loss of Dillon means you are back to relying on Willie for toughness, and I think that's bad situation because Willy will get a 20+ game suspension for every incident he encounters regardless of the situation.

Mantha and Hathaway are about the only other options. Maybe Chara if they bring him back. (Haven't heard what his plans are, but he's still listed on the roster at HockeyBuzz/CapCentral as a UFA)

Welp....
The Nats had a fire sale today.  Traded away Sherzer and Trea Turner.  I hat to see Turner go - he's one of my favorite Nats.  Well, I like Sherzer too, but hes a FA after the season so likely gone anyway.  P Daniel Hudson, IF Kyle Schwarber also gone.  Also catcher Yan Gomes, Josh Harrison, and P Jon Lester.

That's pretty much throwing in the towel on the season  (not that they had a chance anyway)

Nats traded away a bunch of veteran guys in exchange for essentially a bunch of young prospects.  (not saying that is bad)

Go....Nats?
