I saw Rouge One the other week, I didn’t realize where in the storyline it was supposed to be until the very end. I thought it was pretty good, except for the final scene where they rather poorly put a computer generation of Leia’s face on a model. I also saw the latest one where Han dies. I thought that was pretty good too. I had no problem with the General Leia thing, it actually made sense with how involved she was with planning the fighting in Empire Strikes Back. It sucked Han died, but he needed to. Sorry to say but it’s kinda obvious why he landed his plane on a taxiway instead of the runway. I think it’s pretty obvious Rey is related to one of the main characters, and I’ve got no problem with that character being a female. When it’s done well it doesn’t matter(except for 007). It doesn’t need to be rammed down my throat that the main character is female, as long as it fits the main story and not an obvious this character needs to be female for once liberal woke bullshit. I can’t wait to see how well Mark Hammil can still act, now I’m going to go watch Corvette Summer again...

It was pretty good, until the end (falling and catching leges, Kerrick doin the Evil Overload chiche if talking instead of just killing her).

Hey folks!
I check and read this thread, just as I do for the entire forum, but I normally don’t post on this thread. Just not my style, (and certainly not knocking anyone who does)!


It was in watching the recent videos from NYC, where some of the police officers had water thrown on them, by residents of the very neighborhood they were working in. Either while making an arrest, or just being in the area. Either way, it moved me enough to comment here!


It’s sad enough, just to watch it, on its face alone! Then immediately after, the media commentary, from all the political sides, right and left, and everything in between. Anything from blaming past cop abuses, so it’s their fault, to blaming mayor Deblasio, for not showing governmental support for his own NYPD!


It is by design, and my intention, NOT to address the merits of these issues in this post. I don’t have the desire to consume the calorie intake I would need, to debate someone with an opposing view. Just not interested, LOL.


What I did want to mention is that these videos may bring more than meets the eye!
Of all the media muck out there, right now, I’m not hearing anything about the conduct of these few police officers. I’m only hearing about the conduct of the residents, but NADA, on how the officers conducted themselves, after having the water put on them!!!


In each of these 3 cases on video, these cops just WALK AWAY, and continue to ALLOW water to be thrown on them!!!
In one case, a small framed man, holding a cell phone with one hand, and a bottled water in the other, walks casually across the street, towards the officers on the other side, stops about 5-7 feet in front of the cops, raises the bottled water, and simply squirts a small amount on them, waving the bottle briefly, from side to side, then stands there for a split second, then calmly turns to walk back across the street where he came from!!! The cops remain still, not giving even the slightest hint of consideration to giving chase!!!  UNFRICKINBELIEVABLE!!


I can partially understand the one video, where 2 cops are making an arrest, and are surrounded by a loose, disorganized, mob.  Being outnumbered, they make a judgement to TEMPORARILY stand down, for their own safety!! OK, but then, where is the call for backup, or to return promptly with sufficient force to stop the threat!


And in the example with the smaller guy who crossed the street, just to squirt the cops, there was no crowd. This little man KNEW these cops would do NOTHING!!
AND THEREIN LIES THE ISSUE!!!!


The national exposure, on video, of 2 cops acting like COWARDS!! More importantly, in a rough neighborhood, where usually, the boys on the beat in the tough neighborhoods of the inner cities, are anything BUT cowards!


Anyone with even an ounce of street smarts, knows that, generally speaking, cops assigned to the rougher areas of town, ARE, or become, some pretty tough, confident, bad-ass cops, that you DONT wanna mess with!! Many of them are quite civil normally, but can easily handle their business, in an instant, when required, and don’t even bat an eye doing it!


So why aren’t we hearing anything about the LACK OF ACTION TAKEN, by any of these officers, after they were wet??
Is there an intentional avoidance to do so??? If so, WHY??
I’m fine with the media condemning the lack of respect, by the folks who did it. But that is just simple OBVIOUS, stuff.  Almost everyone agrees on that!


What about these pussy ass, non-reactive, boys in blue, who not only embarrass their department, but risk endangering other cops, by their example, potentially sending the message that this behavior might be tolerated in the future, thus encouraging these outlandish acts!!!


Some of those boys at NYPD, badly need to grow a frickin pair, my God!!

The chief answers to and takes direction from the county/town/city councils/mayors on how the department enforces the law. There are still places in this country where the prime focus is speed traps solely for the revenue. Do a search with the terms "cops told to stand down". The first few results will be from Charlottesville and Baltimore, but you will get results from all across the country about incidents you've never even heard of. It's also a bit infuriating.


I will say the cops that had water thrown on them showed an immense amount of restraint and should be commended for such. Having a liquid thrown on you is an assault, especially if the recipient is a law enforcement officer(LEO) and the cops were definitely told how to deal with it from higher up

Appreciate the response and will check into your info on the stand down matter. I may have a lengthier response here, buddy, so I beg your indulgence.


I, like you, see the importance in staying on top of today’s news, and since we’ve shared a few brews together, and had some decent conversations, you’re somewhat familiar with where I stand on today’s ever changing issues.


I’m aware of the many “big city mayors”, all across our great nation, who have issued formal, stand down/increased restraint orders, or similar versions of it, to their respective police departments.
Portland, Seattle, LA, NYC, Baltimore, etc...the list goes on and on!


I’ve come to understand these orders to generally mean an overall practice of higher TOLERANCE, especially in group demonstrations, as they begin to morph into getting out of hand.


Essentially, looting, lesser level physical altercations between opposing sides, property destruction, and the like, are more loosely looked at, at that moment, with the idea of keeping the relative peace, as the better option, rather than a potential instigation to a bigger riot!  I do get it!
A quick glance at the evening news, most any night, will confirm the overall, subdued action, by authorities in these situations.


What I haven’t heard of, is any order where police are to stand down to ASSAULTS directed at themselves personally!
Lets take the “water” part out of the situation, just to make a clearer point.


I haven’t heard of any order given, where police are to stand down if they are personally assaulted by an individual, or group, for political purposes or otherwise!


In fact, it is often the “go signal”, for fellow officers to take physical action in these situations.
We see all the time, cops chasing a lone protester, who managed to affect a lucky, sneaky, strike on an officer, then attempting to dash off into the crowd.
This person will be singled out for foot pursuit, his description being radioed out quickly, and is DIFFERENTIATED, from other protesters who, although may be wreaking some small havoc of their own, DID NOT, assault a cop!


Any stand down order of this type would lead, obviously, to a heyday of hundreds of daily assaults, where the thousands of proud, cop haters, that occupy our city streets, would have a field day, WITHOUT REPERCUSSION, as they smacked, and beat cops, who have been ordered to stand down!
It’s absurd on its face and doesn’t happen!


Now, let’s go back to “water”. The critical point here is WHEN the first NYC incident, made the news!
THEN, I believe, just shortly AFTER it made national headlines, NYPD, was then told to stand down to FUTURE occurrences of this type by DeBlasio.
Why???


I dont believe at all that it was because the department wanted to “de-escalate” any potential physical retaliation from their officers “practicing restraint”.
On the contrary, consider this...


This first incident caught on video, like anything else, is almost NEVER the first actual time this issue had occurred. When you catch a shoplifter on video, believe me, they have shoplifted MANY times before EVER getting caught!  SO...
It’s logical to assume that there had been at least several of these “watering” incidents, before the first one finally got caught on video. AND within the department, privately amongst themselves, THEY KNEW, that a few of these cops DID NOTHING, to take action against their perpetrators!


We can easily assume also, that this would have caused some conflict between some of the officers that were more old school, and those officers who may have sympathized with their fellow cops who had backed down!


Ok, now, hang in there with my point here, if you can.


When it thusly became exposed nationally on the news, and therefore a potential embarrassment to the NYPD, you can bet that there were IMMEDIATE calls from NYPD brass, to these officers supervisors. They would have inquired as to what the hell was happening out there.


It’s easy to imagine the conversation. These low level supervisors would have mentioned that, hey, we’ve had a few of these incidents, and in a couple of them, our boys are WALKING AWAY, and not taking action! It’s a problem internally also, but whaddya want me to do. I’m not out there with them, at the moment, so I can’t make them take action! (Or some conversation along these lines).


Additionally, you would have had some of the tougher, old school cops, giving these guys crap about being afraid, or at least unwilling to take action! These rougher cops would have said that THEY are put in more JEOPARDY, for their lives, by these cops inaction!


Bottom line, I believe, is that word got back to the higher ups in NYPD, that they may have a small number of cops who are intimidated by these folks on the street, and therefore reluctant, or afraid, to act.


So while the department, through re-training or whatever, is deciding just how to handle this issue, they, after the fact, and with prior knowledge of similar, unpublicized incidents, issue  an advisory to stand down to these watering incidents, specifically, to the NYPD, department wide.


This action, more importantly, gives an “out”, to any NYPD cop, who may be afraid, or intimidated, and to the entire NYPD, to “save face”, and not be dangerously regarded by those on the street, as having cops in their neighborhood, who may be afraid to deal with them! That would be catastrophic to the actual enforcement of the law itself, in these areas!


It would be absurd and suicidal, for any public official to announce a stand down order, specifically to any personal assault on an officer, in the inner city of any major metropolitan area, period!


I know there have been all kinds of crazy advisories, issued by these soft ass, big city mayors, and police chiefs, playing, and pandering to big political persuasions, and I don’t like it, one bit!
But no order, I’ve ever heard of, for officers to stand down, specifically, to personal assault!
Alta, my friend, if you know of one such order, in that specificity, I would sincerely appreciate being made aware of it.


What will NYPD do when the water, turns to other liquids like muriatic acid, or bricks!
This is a temporary face saver, for a very few, (hopefully), cops that need to realize they need to man up, like the rest of the “brave boys in blue”, that they work alongside with!


Also, since we can almost be sure that there were prior water incidents, what are the chances that a few of the cops actually DID, handle their business, and dish out a little respect to some of these lil’ bastards!  I’d say there’s a damn good chance that has happened!
Furthermore, if it occurs again, to one of these braver cops, who NOW, has to stand down, then they actually WOULD be practicing the very “immense restraint” you so rightly speak of! And yes, they SHOULD be commended!


I compare this more to men in combat, on the grueling front lines, who have to deal with a soldier in their foxhole that refuses to fight. He impairs the collective effort of his buddies!


You’re a good man, Alta, and I like you.
We’ve talked enough, I feel, that you should know I am extremely PRO law enforcement! And if I’m right, this behavior, by just a few on the force, puts cops in MORE danger!


I’m sincerely open to more info, if you have it, as I view you as having quite a good handle on today’s issues.
Just askin’ for some similar respect, after you finish reading this post, whether you agree or not, as I hope to have at least demonstrated some slightly, deeper thought, and reasoning, for my way of thinking!
That it, simple-mindedly, may not have been “so easy” to conceive, as the first sentence of your post suggests!

Corruption and deceit are able to more easily go on, long term, when the evidence is scattered and disjointed over a long period of time.
Corruptions continued existence DEPENDS on what appear to be isolated, unrelated, events, REMAINING that way, so that certain connections are never made in the first place.


When you start to correlate these apparently separate events into a cohesive pattern, you start to get puzzle pieces that fit into, and end up forming a more comprehensive, and near complete picture!!


When you have THAT MUCH info surrounding the issue, even the most ardent deniers, who may even be able to dismiss a few of the instances, would have to admit that the overwhelming amount of remaining evidence, is NOT able to be overcome!!!

OK. I'd like to....add my knowledge on this Ferguson nonsense as I (at the time) was living in Saint Peters Missouri which is about a 20-25min drive from Ferguson Missouri and got to see/witness more than what the "national coverage" provided.


1st I'll say anyone that believes the "hands up dont shoot" thing happened...It did not. Mikey Brown (I purposefully call him "mikey" as he acted like a kid not an 18yr old adult with a good head on his shoulders) acted aggressively and went for the cops gun. He was also 4 inches taller and 60+lbs heavier than officer wilson. The "innocent child that just graduated" was a twisted story the media made up which garnered clicks and outraged people (friends of mine!!) blindly because it tapped in to their race card.


The "riots" were NOT ferguson people looting their own town (a small small portion was) but a majority of the "rioters" and "looters" were from Saint Louis (a 15-20 min drive) East Saint Louis ( about a 35 min drive from Ferguson AND LOCATED IN ILLINOIS) and also from Alton (which is a town about 45 min from Ferguson and also LOCATED IN ILLINOIS).


I drove through Ferguson about 3 months after the riots (I'm a white male) and felt appalled (and a little threatened at the time) to see that small town wrecked so vastly over such a terrible lie the media manipulated. They have a brewery that myself and two friends went to check out (https://www.fergusonbrewing.com)


It was old-timey and small but nice with great beer! Literally business two houses over (every business there is a smaller ma and pa store on the street with the brewery) had windows boarded up from being broken in to and looted etc.

First, it is good to hear a local account of the events.

In spite of the mainstream media circus surrounding the Ferguson saga my view of the events was/is precisely as you describe. It is possible to be informed provided you do not consume MSM propaganda. And if you do it is also fairly easy to see clean through and around the MSM narratives.

It is very sad how these treasonous bastards care not about the destruction they leave in their wake. Also sad is how many people watch the anti-American Mockingbird media and bite.

I wish it was that easy. Most people aren't aware how the cops work. The chief of police of any given jurisdiction is not really a law enforcement position. It's a political position. The chief answers to and takes direction from the county/town/city councils/mayors on how the department enforces the law. There are still places in this country where the prime focus is speed traps solely for the revenue. Do a search with the terms "cops told to stand down". The first few results will be from Charlottesville and Baltimore, but you will get results from all across the country about incidents you've never even heard of. It's also a bit infuriating.


I will say the cops that had water thrown on them showed an immense amount of restraint and should be commended for such. Having a liquid thrown on you is an assault, especially if the recipient is a law enforcement officer(LEO) and the cops were definitely told how to deal with it from higher up

In bold above is 100% true. I spent 20 years working with the police in both Fairfax County, VA and Montgomery County, MD. Here in MD I was a member of and later president of a Montgomery County Volunteer Fire Fighter agency that dealt with large disaster response. I have also been politically active on the issue of gun control in the state senate for many years. I got to know a lot of police in the State and county forces. All of them agreed wholeheartedly in your statement in bold above, and they did not like it one bit. They knew that many edicts coming down were counterproductive and even dangerous. I've been in long discussions about this with very qualified officers. I have an uncle who reached the pinnacle of law enforcement in the New Jersey State Police. He was in charge of internal affairs for the whole state. He retired early stating to me he was disgusted with the corruption that was known at the highest levels and he was ordered to overlook. He was a State Trooper when I was a teen and when he retired in the early 2000's he told me what he'd seen made him sick.

One time I was speaking with two officers of the Mont. Co. police; they told me they would arrest anyone they possibly could for any reason they could possibly find, because for them it meant job security.  This is appalling. As we know many laws were written to give officers an opportunity to stop certain crimes for which they had no means to pursue. Many of these were never intended to be applied to the letter of the law just because you can. I remember when intent had a lot to do with the application of the law. A lot of people today get wrapped up in a criminal proceeding because they fell afoul of the letter of some law and in spite of never having any criminal intent. This is a very big change from what I remember. Common sense is out the window. One great example of this is the Pennsylvania woman that had a concealed carry permit and traveled through New Jersey. She got pulled over and immediate told the officer she was a CCW permit holder and had a gun in her car. She went to prison. There was never any suggestion that she was up to no good in any way. She simply ran afoul of a law that was different in a nearby state and the system condemned her. This was purely a political sentence. It had nothing to do with crime.

And when I think back to when I brought an uncased .30-06 rifle to Thomas Jefferson High School in 1977. Seven miles from the White House BTW. No one even gave me a second look.  I put it in my locker. When shop class rolled around I took it out and walked the halls with it so I could work on bedding the stock in shop. How things have changed.

Today pretty much everyone is guilty of many things that could land them in prison. There's a good book called "Three Felonies a Day" that makes this case pretty well.

I may have told you before but I graduated from TJ high school in 1977!
Things were WAY different then, as you say!
I was there before it changed to the select, high-scholastic, school that it is today.


One memory I have from back then, was a police interaction I had, while still at TJ in 1977.
Actually I consider it a very fortunate experience.
I had a work permit to work at the Baskin Robbins 31 flavors, there in Bradlick Shopping Center, right next to the Kemp Mill Records store! (Man, that’s goin’ back a bit, yeah?)


Anyway, I finished work that night, was driving home, just a short distance to the Edsal Park neighborhood!
I’d just bought an oz. of “lumbo”, and had it in my dads car.
Lo, and fuckin’ behold, I get pulled over for speeding on Montgomery St., which connects Braddock to Edsal Rd.


Cop comes to the window, asks for lic and reg, and as I hand it to him, he TELLS me to get out of the car.
He’s an older cop, 50-ish, wasn’t mean or anything, but spoke quite firm with me.
I was young, and naive, and it was intimidating to me back then.
He asked me one question about where I was coming from. I said from work at BR 31.


Then, without asking me anything else, simply told me to go sit on the curb and stay there!
I did, and he immediately opened my driver door and searched the entire car. Then asked me for my trunk key, and opened it!
I was sweating bullets, or course, but the cop had made no indication to me, that he had found anything!


He finished the search, asked me to stand up. When I did, he produced the brand new ounce of weed to me, that he’d found in the car!!
He changed his demeanor, to serious, and acted quite pissed. Then said to me, “I’m gonna give you two choices, you little shit, cuz it’s your lucky night.” (I’m just about pissin’ my pants at this point)!
“I can cuff you, and take you to jail, and maybe fuck up your future for you, OR, you’re gonna eat the ashes in this ashtray”, (he had pulled the car ashtray out during the search, which was also where the weed bag was)!
“THEN, you’re gonna dump this entire bag out, down this sewer drain”! Then yelled at me, “YOU’RE CHOICE, DUMBASS!”


Without thinking, I snatched the ashtray out of his hand, and immediately turned it upside down, on the flat of my tongue!! (to be honest, there wasn’t that much in it), and gave it back to him!
The cop started to lightly chuckle, and said, “Tastes good doesn’t it?” I said nothing. “DOES’NT IT!!”, he yelled. I said yes sir!


We walked over to the curb side sewer, as I bent over, and I started to dump it out. My hands weren’t quite inside the thing, so the weed was sort of falling on the street.
All of the sudden he just shoved me down, hard, on the road and tells me to put the bag in, as far as I can reach, into the sewer.


Im now flat on my stomach, on the road, and while dumping the bag out, per his instructions, he kicks me in the legs a couple of times. Not real hard, but it did hurt a bit.


I finish. Stand up. He hands me my ashtray, with license and registration in it, and says, “You’ve got 5 seconds to get the fuck out of here, and forget this ever happened, before I change my mind!”
I ran to sit back in my car, and started it! He said to consider myself extremely lucky, as I pulled off and went home!


I’ve done many other drugs, in my younger years, after that, but NOT WEED! That truly was the day I stopped smoking it!
Even though, by today’s standards, that cop violated a lot of my rights, with the search and his unusual tactics, and such. I didn’t realize it back then! And consider myself lucky, at the time, to this day!


To finish the story, I left Baskin Robbins when I graduated from TJ, (1977), and got a job at the Hardee’s restaurant, (on Backlick Rd at the time). A few months into the job, as a cashier, this SAME COP comes in at night, orders a coffee from me, (always no charge, per mgmnt), and sits down for a minute, inside!


I CERTAINLY recognized, and knew it was him, right away! He didn’t seem to act like he recognized me, thank God, as he sat down. About 9 months had gone by, since he’d pulled me over.


We were slow, and after a few minutes, he motioned me over to his table.
No one was around, and he quietly asked me if I remembered him.
I said, of course, it would be hard to forget!


He asked me if I was still, “messin’ with that stuff.”
I quickly said NO WAY! And meant it!


Unbeknownst to me, he was a recently retired Navy officer, who had got a job with Fairfax police, only in the last two years!!


He mentioned that he’d worked at BUMED, (Bureau of Medicine and Surgery), for the Navy, on 23rd St in DC, and had only been a cop for two years!
He then asked if that “rung any bells” for me!


At first, it meant nothing, then he asked if my father was a Naval officer. I said yes. Then he said, “He works for BUMED too, doesn’t he?”.........


HOLY SHIT!!..... I knew that my dad was a Naval officer, just about to retire, and he worked in DC, for the Navy, also for BUMED, on 23rd st!! (He had taken me there before, to receive some kind of award and meet the Surgeon General!)
UNBELIEVABLE!!!


As the cop saw my surprise, he told me that MY parents had helped plan HIS retirement party, and that him and my dad had worked in the same office, for several years!


He mentioned that he didn’t realize who I was until a few days later, after he’d stopped me! It occurred to him when he was doing his shift activity reports, saw my name, and put two and two together! He had gone back, at some point, to my old BR 31 job, and they had mentioned that I was working at Hardee’s!


He actually was relieved that he had let me go,  and asked if my dad knew anything about the stop, that night. I said I’d never said anything about it!


As he got up to leave, he shook my hand and said, “I don’t have to worry about you mentioning this to your father, now, do I?”


I said NEVER!!
He then left!


I did tell my mother, though, back in 2005. My mom said that she’d heard he’d passed away, maybe in the late 90’s!

I was there before it changed to the select, high-scholastic, school that it is today.


One memory I have from back then, was a police interaction I had, while still at TJ in 1977.
Actually I consider it a very fortunate experience.
I had a work permit to work at the Baskin Robbins 31 flavors, there in Bradlick Shopping Center, right next to the Kemp Mill Records store! (Man, that’s goin’ back a bit, yeah?)


Anyway, I finished work that night, was driving home, just a short distance to the Edsal Park neighborhood!
I’d just bought an oz. of “lumbo”, and had it in my dads car.
Lo, and fuckin’ behold, I get pulled over for speeding on Montgomery St., which connects Braddock to Edsal Rd.


Cop comes to the window, asks for lic and reg, and as I hand it to him, he TELLS me to get out of the car.
He’s an older cop, 50-ish, wasn’t mean or anything, but spoke quite firm with me.
I was young, and naive, and it was intimidating to me back then.
He asked me one question about where I was coming from. I said from work at BR 31.


Then, without asking me anything else, simply told me to go sit on the curb and stay there!
I did, and he immediately opened my driver door and searched the entire car. Then asked me for my trunk key, and opened it!
I was sweating bullets, or course, but the cop had made no indication to me, that he had found anything!


He finished the search, asked me to stand up. When I did, he produced the brand new ounce of weed to me, that he’d found in the car!!
He changed his demeanor, to serious, and acted quite pissed. Then said to me, “I’m gonna give you two choices, you little shit, cuz it’s your lucky night.” (I’m just about pissin’ my pants at this point)!
“I can cuff you, and take you to jail, and maybe fuck up your future for you, OR, you’re gonna eat the ashes in this ashtray”, (he had pulled the car ashtray out during the search, which was also where the weed bag was)!
“THEN, you’re gonna dump this entire bag out, down this sewer drain”! Then yelled at me, “YOU’RE CHOICE, DUMBASS!”


Without thinking, I snatched the ashtray out of his hand, and immediately turned it upside down, on the flat of my tongue!! (to be honest, there wasn’t that much in it), and gave it back to him!
The cop started to lightly chuckle, and said, “Tastes good doesn’t it?” I said nothing. “DOES’NT IT!!”, he yelled. I said yes sir!


We walked over to the curb side sewer, as I bent over, and I started to dump it out. My hands weren’t quite inside the thing, so the weed was sort of falling on the street.
All of the sudden he just shoved me down, hard, on the road and tells me to put the bag in, as far as I can reach, into the sewer.


Im now flat on my stomach, on the road, and while dumping the bag out, per his instructions, he kicks me in the legs a couple of times. Not real hard, but it did hurt a bit.


I finish. Stand up. He hands me my ashtray, with license and registration in it, and says, “You’ve got 5 seconds to get the fuck out of here, and forget this ever happened, before I change my mind!”
I ran to sit back in my car, and started it! He said to consider myself extremely lucky, as I pulled off and went home!


I’ve done many other drugs, in my younger years, after that, but NOT WEED! That truly was the day I stopped smoking it!
Even though, by today’s standards, that cop violated a lot of my rights, with the search and his unusual tactics, and such. I didn’t realize it back then! And consider myself lucky, at the time, to this day!


To finish the story, I left Baskin Robbins when I graduated from TJ, (1977), and got a job at the Hardee’s restaurant, (on Backlick Rd at the time). A few months into the job, as a cashier, this SAME COP comes in at night, orders a coffee from me, (always no charge, per mgmnt), and sits down for a minute, inside!


I CERTAINLY recognized, and knew it was him, right away! He didn’t seem to act like he recognized me, thank God, as he sat down. About 9 months had gone by, since he’d pulled me over.


We were slow, and after a few minutes, he motioned me over to his table.
No one was around, and he quietly asked me if I remembered him.
I said, of course, it would be hard to forget!


He asked me if I was still, “messin’ with that stuff.”
I quickly said NO WAY! And meant it!


Unbeknownst to me, he was a recently retired Navy officer, who had got a job with Fairfax police, only in the last two years!!


He mentioned that he’d worked at BUMED, (Bureau of Medicine and Surgery), for the Navy, on 23rd St in DC, and had only been a cop for two years!
He then asked if that “rung any bells” for me!


At first, it meant nothing, then he asked if my father was a Naval officer. I said yes. Then he said, “He works for BUMED too, doesn’t he?”.........


HOLY SHIT!!..... I knew that my dad was a Naval officer, just about to retire, and he worked in DC, for the Navy, also for BUMED, on 23rd st!! (He had taken me there before, to receive some kind of award and meet the Surgeon General!)
UNBELIEVABLE!!!


As the cop saw my surprise, he told me that MY parents had helped plan HIS retirement party, and that him and my dad had worked in the same office, for several years!


He mentioned that he didn’t realize who I was until a few days later, after he’d stopped me! It occurred to him when he was doing his shift activity reports, saw my name, and put two and two together! He had gone back, at some point, to my old BR 31 job, and they had mentioned that I was working at Hardee’s!


He actually was relieved that he had let me go,  and asked if my dad knew anything about the stop, that night. I said I’d never said anything about it!


As he got up to leave, he shook my hand and said, “I don’t have to worry about you mentioning this to your father, now, do I?”


I said NEVER!!
He then left!


I did tell my mother, though, back in 2005. My mom said that she’d heard he’d passed away, maybe in the late 90’s!

I had a few run ins with cops in my youth where my rights were trampled, though not near as bad as your expience. I'm very conflicted on how cops were able to act this way years ago. It was a gross violation of the rights of citizens, yet I have no doubt it prevented a lot of future crime by scaring the crap out of the youth of the era. I'm willing to bet actual money that things like that prevented far more crime than today's cops that just arrest people for petty crap with no lectures/scare tactics.
