Slovakia beat Germany 6-2 today. Slovakia has been a bit of a surprise; upsetting Finland 4-1 in the prelim round. They are now 3-1 and in 5th place
No surprise Canada and USA are 1 and 2, with Finland and Sweden at 3 and 4
(Finland beat Sweden so are ranked higher despite 1 fewer game/win)
I'm curious how they decided on the groupings A, B, C because group B has Sweden, Finland, Slovakia (and Italy) - 3 tough teams and basically what I'd consider contenders (at least as runner up to Canada, USA), whereas Group A has Canada, Switzerland, Czechia, France, and Group C; USA, Germany, Latvia, Denmark.
No real contenders in Groups A or C (besides the top 2). Did they do this intentionally to make sure Canada and USA advanced?
USA plays Sweden today at 3:15 - could be a tough match. I believe it will be broadcast on TNT
All 25 players on team Sweden is NHL player, same for Canada, USA, with Finland having 24/25 nhl players, Slovakia has 7 NHLers
I didn't realize Sweden and Finland squads were that loaded with NHL talent, figuring at least a few guys would come from their elite leagues.
