Definitely leaves a hole in the July 4 weekend. At least they went to a great road course in it's place, but still not the same as ol' hot and humid Daytona in July!

that’s at least two years in a row they’ve run the Cup cars on this track, I can’t be the only one that finds this boring as hell

Brutal boring race. New cup car is basically a purpose built road race car and it sucks on road courses. lol  (And short tracks) :-(

That's basically what they've done. (IROC cars) They're all purpose built with only nascar supplied parts. You can't build/do anything different, from a team standpoint. The only differences are manufacture/body (aero) and how you set it up with springs/shocks, etc. That's why some teams (underfunded) are running better then others. They just hit on something in the setup/simulation. It's also why nascar doesn't let them practice more than 20 minutes. They want to keep the illusion of parity as long as they can. But anywhere they run this new car, with slow corners, they can't get drive off so it makes passing/racing pretty boring. All the action happens within a couple laps of a restart.  :-\  They're at Atlanta next week. With the way they rebuilt that track it's now runs like a small/narrow super speedway (Daytona/Talladega).. Last race there was crazy. So, at least it should be entertaining..

Technically it is possible for Backy to recover to the level of a 35 year old NHL center. Given the estimated time for recovery and rehab that’s how old he will be if he can indeed recover from this. Hags is still a big question as well.

and the Caps most certainly can use that space for a good player, the only issue would be what to do if and when Backy returns. If team management is going to wait another year to figure that out they should all be fired

We already knew it was gonna be a salary cap shit show.. But even with a glimmer of hope, with Nicky being injured, they're just gonna sink further into mediocrity w/o even attempting to fill the void. Only way they'll try something is if Ovi struggles. But it'll be too late then.  :)

NHL draft starts tomorrow. It’s 2 or 3 days, I ferget. Free agency starts after that, so we should see in about a week or so what kind of management this team has. My guess is  :clown: :poop: .

I can't believe they are not going to use the salary cap relief from Nicky, and Wilson, and Hags to do something.
"Look to fill from within first" means....McMichael and Snively.  Unless they plan to sign Mojo for a year and move him to center.
Maybe they just blowing smoke about "fill from within" and they really plan to make several major moves  ;)  :raspberry:

It's too bad McMichael hasn't shown a little more promise.  I guess he is only 21 so maybe he will blossom this year.  He should certainly get enough playing time this year.

Without Big Willy in the lineup, this team is going to be exceptionally soft and slow.

I think McMichael still shows promise, but he really needs to gain about 20 pounds and an attitude on the ice. But he is still young.

Agreed on McMichael and I guess I've been whining for years the Caps don't let the young guys play (in their proper roles) so maybe this will work in our favor and McMichael will grow into a true top 4 C which is something we desperately need.
Maybe the Caps will actually pick up a starting goalie...and a couple of D, and someone to bring the age down of this group....and the speed up....

And maybe.....I'll hit a unicorn on the way home knocking the Leprechaun off its back dropping his pot of gold and I will pick it up and be able to retire from working 12 hour days.

Damn! Sounds like the Caps accidently won the draft? I know nothing of the kid, but from reading the twits it sounds like he can play some ball.. lol
Apparently he had/recovered from cancer. I'm seeing stuff like "Steal of the draft" "Ovi 2.0" "Superstar" "Beast"..  :cross:  They say he'd of gone top 5 if not for the health diagnosis. Hope the kid stays healthy!!

this kid has Hodgkin’s lymphoma, that’s the same thing that made Mario Lemieux retire early
