DC the facts don’t support your contention that BMac is a bad GM.  The year before he took over the Caps didn’t make the playoffs.  Since he has been here we have had the best regular season record in two of the three seasons.  This year despite all of our personnel losses the team has done much better than most people expected.  I think MacLellan has done a fantastic job and the only GM who has done a better job during this time is Rutherford.  There are a heck of lot worse GMs out there and we are fortunate to have BMac IMO.
Come on man. . .
In lieu of listing the terrible decisions made since GMBetaMale has been here that have at best kept the “we have chance” crap alive. . .

I’ll ask you this, do you think that if he was the GM of VGK, that’s he’d done a better job of building a team that will be a legitimate Cup contender years than GMGM has?

I dont think anyone here had a problem with Schmidt. I wish we found a way to keep him.
Agee’but how they didn’t find it, and if so why they didn’t do it is the question. . .

We could have protected 4 dmen but then we could only protect 4 forwards. It sounds like thats what DC was thinking we should have done. I dont disagree. I think new would have lost Eller, Johansson or Burakovsky. I could have lived with that. We lost Johansson anyway.
Oh ArJunaz, I know you dont care for Carlson but he is head and shoulders our best dman. Protecting Schmidt over Carlson is preposterous. You can't even say for Cap reasons because 3 Caps dmen make more than he does. I know you dont care for the guy but let's try to be realistic.

I love how you keep trying to fit a square peg in a round hole. I am not a Carlson hater. Carlson is a good defenseman. I just rag on him when his brain goes blank, which is too often for my liking.  He's also improved a fair amount this past season.

The fact is that I really liked Nate Schmidt, both as a nice guy and I also saw him as a future superstar d-man.  You weren't around back then, but others here know that I was the first to sing his praises and predicting that he would be a star.  Schmidty was also a lower cap hit than Carlson, which was paramount after last season.  Schmidt also always gave 100%, something that could not be said for Carlson.  This year it's understandable that Carlson is not 100% balls to the wall since he's playing so many minutes, but he was a slacker in past years, and those Quaalude moments always bug the hell out of me.

I really did not like the way the NHL set the rules for the draft. The 7-3-1 option to fill just one expansion team was ridiculous.  In the previous draft, which was to fill two teams the teams got to protect 9-4-1 as an option.  This makes more sense.  There were other rules in place to prevent teams from leaving only recent call ups exposed.

All that said, I'm saying this from my bedroom having never played a single shift of hockey myself.  I know these guys must work incredibly hard and here I am nitpicking because that what fans do.  I am not a Carlson hater.  I actually have greater respect for him now then I did in previous seasons.  I still really like Nate though.  The only players I really do not like are the ones that are mean and nasty and that try to hurt other players by playing dirty or players that embellish all the time;  people like Subban :poop: , Crosby  :poop: , Clutterbuck :poop: , Marchand :poop: , Shaw :poop: , Kessler :poop: , Simmonds :poop: to name a few.  Carlson is a nice guy and for that alone I couldn't hate on him.

I know you need to have someone to beat heads with about Carlson, but let that not be me. ;)
Be careful what you ask for America; you just might get it.

Do you think if GMGM were still the GM of the Caps the Caps would have had the best regular season record the last two years and be where they are today?  I don’t.

They likely thought they could work a deal with Vegas to me him. I heard rumors that they tried to but Vegas wouldn't bite. I have no clue if that is true or not.

If he had the same control he has in Vegas, it wouldn’t matter.  We’d have Cups.

Now to his credit, GMBetaMale can market and make fan friendly moves.  So Im sure he’d  do great for a team that needs splashes and names to get immediate new and renewed interest. . .

Funny you say that you dont dislike Carlson but you wanted us to leave him exposed to the expansion draft over our other dmen. I guess we could have but I think we would be in worse shape than we are in.

this should be good...

how the puck is leaving him exposed equal to hating him? Your logic is very flawed

How is my logic flawed? Just because you personally dont like a player doesn't justify giving the player away. Say what you will but Carlson is still our best dman whether you like it or not. Our dcore is a mess right now. I thought right from the start that we should have protected 4 dmen because good dmen are harder to find than forwards. I dont think my logic is flawed.

This just illustrates mamagments priorities, and ability.

A better President and GM, would have been able to see who is unprotected in the league, upcoming UFAs, upcoming contracts, & who’s on their roster, and who’s replaceable. Moreover, the guy picking the expansion draft was here for 10 years and they couldn’t come up with a strategy for minimal loss and give GMGM minimal gains?

They has more advantages than every other team and lost what could become a future all star

I thought management did a decent job in recruiting decent skilled players but we didnt bring in any much needed grinders and physical players. We could really use more players that play like Wilson. Or on defence we could sure use a younger and faster Orpik.

Yep, problem is they don’t see that and/or agree with us.

If you look at what beats us, it’s not as much stars and skill players, it’s the Defence anc Depth players that ultimately do us in.

We are soft and our defensive zone coverage has been brutal. And its not just the rookies. Niskanen and Orlov have been caught watching way too many times.
To the guys that have been riding Bowey. He has struggled moving the puck at times. I think alot of that is lack of support from Orpik. However he is improving his defensive play and puck moving. The guy I'm concerned about is Djoos. He is struggling in the defensive zone.

Funny thing about Green when he was here was that a lot of people didnt like the offense only approach by a defenceman. Now that is very common. Every team has a couple of defensemen that play like that. I guess he was ahead if his time. He isn't the dman I would want. I'd rather have a shutdown guy. Like a Hjalmarsson or a Hamhuis.

Correct.  But, Green has developed into an excellent 200ft Dman in Detroit.  Almost to the point his  offense approach is almost limited to the Power Play.

I have little doubt that he would be the best Dman on the Caps if he came here.

However, it will come down to Holland vs GMBetaMale, so not only do we need way more than Mike Green, we’d  way over pay for him
