Im not sure Im grasping this exactly...so  the fact the Rags are in 1st place with Lavi this year....means its GMBM fault that the Caps underperformed under Lavi?
Im not arguing for or against, just trying to understand the post

Sure,  I read   A LOT of criticism of Lavi before he was gone.  What I was pondering was if it was a failure of GMBM to hire the 'right' coach.  HCTR was a bust HCPL was also, but not just that.  The whole 'We are just going to tweak the current roster' shtick since the HCBT fiasco has not gotten the team even close to the Cup again.
My guess is that he goes when OVI goes, but at what cost. (obviously if the team finds success then the argument falls short, but I don't see any better result than another 1st round exit if we are lucky)

Okay, yeah, I hear you.  Well I was excited originally when they hired Lavi.  I thought he was about what the team needed - a solid experienced coach.  However, I don't think he really meshed with the squad for whatever reason.  Obviously they did not have success.  Now is that the coaches fault, the players fault, the injury bug, or like you suggest; the GM's fault for not getting the right guy for the squad?  My question is....IF you are a great coach should you not have some measure of success despite the obstacles?  I mean you are somewhat handcuffed by the hand you are dealt.  Also...finding the right coach I think is more difficult than finding some of the right players.  Plus there are so many other factors that go into a successful season in hockey.  We certainly struggled with goaltending, injury, etc.  It was certainly time for Lavi to go
But is Lavi's current success due to his ability to handle the Rags squad or the fact that....they just have more assets to handle?  I don't know enough about them really, but they've been on the rise for a while.
I think the biggest strike against GMBM is handling the cap and some of the length of the contracts that have been given out.  I mean you have to give and take and such, but we are certainly suffering from the length of those deals today.  (Backy, Oshie, Ovie, Carlslon).  Ovie is kind of a given, and Carlson - despite being overpaid, is still performing, but Backy and Oshie deals were certainly too long.  I know they wanted to keep the and together and watch them ride the success into the future, but it's handicapped the near future of the team.
I think GMBM has at least been willing to go out and make some moves and deals and such whereas before we just had some ole same ole forever.
Not all those deals have been good ones (ahem Mantha).
Sounds like I'm defending GMBM against your point but that wasn't really my intent. Coach and GM both prolly get more credit than deserved with everything is working and more blame than deserved when its not.
I was actually disappointed when they announced Carbery...thinking...here we go again.  Can't find a real coach so lets just give this guy a shot, but I've been pretty happy with him.  I like his approach and have liked the things he has said and he's been honest about the team and individual player's performances at times.  Do I think we win a cup in the next 2-3 seasons...NO.  Is that the coaches fault? ...prolly not with this squad.  However, IF Carbery has decent success with THIS squad, do you give credit to the coach or do you also give credit to GMBM for "finding" the right coach for this squad?  (I don't really think there is one).  Although I DO think Carbery will at least give guys a fair shot whether they are rookie or veteran.  I am HOPING he holds guys accountable despite their value of their contract.  Sorry for the long post..

I am glad you brought up the Cap as I think it plays into the 'keeping the band together' obsession he had.  Addtionaly, we seemed to stay away from draft picks at the same time.  I think Carbery is fine as long as GMBM is 100% into turning the corner on a rebuild/refit.

I don't think Lavi, or anyone, could of done much with the roster here. I didn't like the fact that he was gun shy on playing young guys and nothing ever changed on the PP. How much was that GM and Ted and the PP coach? Carbery is gonna have a similar task, imo. We're still very old and slow and I don't see a way around that, outside a few games here and there. Just too many games in a season to contend when you have this many old slow bodies, regardless of their skillset.

We "heard" the PP was gonna be different, but it's still the same old static PP, even if they move Oshie or Kuzy from right to left. Nobody moves and the passes are slow. I guess they play that way cause nobody on the PP can skate? Get out of position and 1 bad pass and you're in an odd man/short handed situation?

Either way, I don't see real success again, until Ovi (and his band of brothers) are retired and we actually have some (top 6) prospects and youth to rebuild.

GMBM has his share of bonehead moves. Ziggy, Mantha/Jake, Goalies, Sprong, etc. But those long veteran contracts are the huge killer and Im sure he and Ted had discussions about that, so his hands were probably tied? But when you "have" to sign Ovi, Nicky, Oshie, Carlson and Kuzy to extended deals, you're fucked. Is what it is.

Get Ovi his GOAT status (or until he retires) then we'll revisit. (at least) 2 more years of being fucking suck is in our cards though, imo.

A couple of the PPs have looked good. Good puck movement and good player movement. I think the bigger problem is the players on the PP. Most of them are still stuck in 2018.

You think we are gonna be fucking suck this year? Yeah, me too.
Well, we have a couple bright spots in some of the youngins, but we desperately NEED the youngins to blossom and produce to have a chance at a winning season.  I don't think the old squad is going to score as much this year.  We also need our goalie to be a $5m goalie consistently for any real team success.
Who knows, maybe Ovi wakes up and gets 40 this year.  He looks tired though.  I seen him huffing and puffing more than ever before.  Maybe he didn't come in in good shape this year.
I guarantee our PP gets better.  Statistically anyway. (It can only go up from here).  I mean its bad, but not as bad as the statistic.  It's not like the guys are not getting ANY shots or chances - they just don't have any going in.  But...I'd still like to see some new guys get looks on the PP...McMike for one.

Thanks for the information. Some will or might come true. I don’t know too much, like you guys. But he did seem out of breath in that last game. Tonight should be fun.
Let me help you out. Which way did you come in?

I also think it’s time for OV to stop double shifting on the PP. Either that or needs to plant his ass in front of the crease instead of playing his spot.

This  100 %

It'd be different if Ovi had 5 PP goals already, but no reason to keep him out there the whole time when its NOT working.

Did yuns see the TNT intermission clowns goofing on the Caps and Ovi?  I mean it started as them talking about Ovi then them joking about the team just keep pushing him out on the ice and planting him in his office for the PP for the next 15 years to break the record.  (A little too close to home for me)

Yea, as soon as Mantha and/or Paci are healthy, he's gone. Probably has 2 games left to make it happen again.

well he deserved to be pumped up, but yeah, he's usually pretty mellow.
Kuemper...sucks for him, but just another chance for Charlie.

So in my humble opinion, Keumper is more stable and such, but Charlie sure does have a better shot at stealing a game (although Kuemper has as well this year)
I'd say Charlie is better suited for saving the Caps bacon in a game like last night where he is just left hung out to dry on multiple occasions.

Kuemper left practice early because he was in pain. Phillips did not practice today, bruised foot from blocking a shot. Still no word on anyone being sent back to Hershey.

More notes I read about from today's practice:

Kuemps took a shot off a leg, in an unpadded area, apparently.

McIlrath layed out Malenstyn in practice, on a crushing hit. Maly gave him a grin or a handshake or something when he got up. (also saw a vid earlier today, of the dude he crushed then beat-up last night, in the penalty box. He's telling one of this teammates "That dude is STRONG" lol)

Mantha had a ruptured ear drum. Had balance issues the night he took the shot to the head and is now wearing an ear protector. (think they said he was in a normal jersey today though)

Carbery was working with Protas after practice on checking and digging pucks out of the corner.

Still no word on who, if anyone, will be ready by Saturday.

Here's the full vid of Chucky and the Boyz.. Nice that they're seeing some success and having fun! Been a while!!  :hearts:
