Not surprised by any of the moves or that Copely was put on AND cleared waivers. Copely had a few moments where he shined, but I think he is pretty much an AHL caliber goalie.
Caps roster at 27 need to get down to 23, but with the Cap hit they realistically can only carry 21, MAYBE 22 depending on who the last 1 or 2 are. With Backy a question mark, I assume if he is IR then his cap hit won't count but not sure what the rules are with IR and timing and roster and such.

Left on the chopping block: Seven guys and four will have to go (likely more like 6 to stay under Cap - unless Backy is IR)
C - McMichael
C - Lapierre
L - Malenstyn
C - Pilon
D - Fehervary
D - Irwin (who is this guy - 33 years old, came from Buffalo) Is he NHL caliber D-man?
G - Fucale
I'm leaning toward leaving up McMichael and Fever. That's a roster of 22 and Caps might not be able to swing that cap Hit. Might put them couple hundred grand over with a 22nd man.
I don't know Irwin's play at all and he is a budget salary at $750k, but I'd just as soon give Fever that spot. Although....if he is just on roster and never gets to play, then maybe better for him to actually play with the Bears.
We shall see.
Anybody heard a word on Backy?
