      Well Kuzy was our 2nd shooter before Kovalchuk got here. Today he was our 4th shooter and only goalscorer. He career precentage on shootouts is 40% which is pretty good.

The truth for me is I had no idea the time changed here until you mentioned it. 95% of my clocks automatically switch and I had not heard it mentioned until you said something.  It makes it even more amazing that Sunday morning I woke up at 3:40am.

If he is getting good chances this is a very good thing, he is moving right, he is getting into right positions. In this case at some point he'll break through. He can strike a gold for Caps, or silver. At this shootouts, only Kuzya has scored, so let's distribute the blame.

I'm reminded of a game that went to a shootout when Brash was here, I think it was the 14th or 15th round when the coach finally sent Brash out, the results were predictable but the crowd loved that he had a go at it. There are about 10 other guys on this squad I'd send out before Panik. Nothing personal, but the shootout is a skills test, some guys have it, some don't. Reirdon keeps proving he's in over his head, rather that showing he's learning to swim

I agree.  Kovi has looked better the last few games.  He still has decent wheels and good size.  He has been more physical than I expected too.  He's had some glorious chances that did not go, but he was in position to make those chances.  Hopefully it breaks for him soon and he becomes a solid asset


Honestly I think that's why TR put him out for shootout.  If he scores, puts him (Kovi) in good light with team and boosts his confidence.  Same with Panik....he HAS been much better lately so maybe give him a shot...but I agree with ALTA on the Panik choice - deserving or not, it's just not his skill set.

Also, the shootout is a crapshoot.  Yes you want you skill guys out there, but some of it is just the hot hand or a feeling about a guy.  I recall Trotz would through some odd choices out there.  He put grandpa Mike Knuble out there - who was not known for his speed, skill, or stick handling.  But he did score.


I think we just like to give Coach Rearend a hard time about everything cause we are sour on him.  I be willing to venture he knows more about the mindset and skill set of his players than we do.

last season I would've given Coach Rearend a pass, but after almost two full seasons of watching this unmotivated squad I don't think he's got what it takes to be a head coach, yet.
