I think half of the goals against could have been saved. Not that they were super soft goals, but they were goals that a sharp elite goalie probably could have gotten. The other half were probably truly little to no chance. The loss isn't fully on Holtby, because even if he were doing his fucking job we'd still lose, but it sure as shit wouldn't have been such a blowout. I think a good goalie who plays like he's worth $6+ million a year gives up 3-4.


At this point you might as well put a sumo wrestler in skates and pay him league minimum to play goalie and just sit his fat ass there. He'd probably do no worse and you'd have several million dollars to spare.

A couple quick thoughts:

1.  I'd fire Rierden tomorrow.  Despite the record, the team has looked unprepared and lazy for weeks.  Without a bunch of come from behind wins, the record would be much worse than it is.  He obviously has no clue and/or the team simply ignores him.

2.  They better be thinking about making a move at the deadline on defense because they aren't going anywhere with this crew. 

3.  Holtby got no help tonight but he looks like he's had it.  His positioning is often poor and you're half expecting every shot to go in.

4.  Please burn those fucking throw back uniforms.  All we ever did back when we wore those things was lose when it counted, often in demoralizing fashion.  Every time we've worn them lately, we look like dogshit.  Just retire them for good.

Trade would be nice, but who's picking up 6 million for a half season of broken Holtby? Coach needs to start doing his job as well, cause they ALL look like shit. Have for over a month now.

Goal 4 was particularly bad because he actually stopped it and let it bounce through/under his arm.

Were 2, 6, and 7 the 2 one-timers (one cross crease and the other from behind the net) and the breakaway? Because if so I agree. There were a couple of deflection goals and a couple of wrist shot goals where I felt like a GOOD goalie could get some of them.


Again, LOSS isn't on Holts, but a good goalie doesn't give up a touchdown. A good goalie keeps the game within reach in case we want to mount a heroic comeback.

Looked at replays, I think 4, 5, 6 he should have gotten.


4 - The floater from the blue line that was deflected in. Holts was just leaky there.


5 - Turnover that led to a wrist shot from the Ovi spot. A good glove hand should have had that.


6 - The reason why I thought 6 he had a chance on was because the guy who tipped it WASN'T the guy on the far side of the net, he was the guy on the short side, and that tip was saveable with good positioning IMO.




The remaining four "tougher" goals were the 3 one-timers from close up and the breakaway goal. I still think a goalie who is zoned in could get at least one of those, but those are some goals that admittedly I wouldn't have expected Holts to get. The other three though? Could have had them. Could have been a 4-2 or 3-2 game.

• February 23 vs. Pittsburgh Penguins
• March 4 vs. Philadelphia Flyers
• March 26 vs. New York Rangers

I actually like the old uniform.  It's my favorite.

Teams get plenty of open looks. You can't give the goalie a pass -every-fucking-time- they do. He gave up 7 goals. One of us dopes prolly gives up 10? Yay.. See how Monday goes.. They won't fire Reirden, but his coaching/motivational skills seem lacking. Closed door meeting.. lol. That always works out well.
