  For those that like Christmas music I suggest the Trans Siberian Orchestra..Pretty good show. I don't see any dates close to here but it looks like they are playing in DC tomorrow night.

  We got our first real cold snap just in time for Christmas. -32c overnight with a windchill of - 45c. For anyone interested -45c is -49f. Its just like Siberia. Fn nasty.

I Russian I worked with said when he was on the military stationed in Siberia, they would play a “game” where they would go outside in weather like that, slam a bottle a vodka and feel nothing, then go inside and it would hit all at once. . .


Not sure if I should call BS on that ie not, but it does sound bad ass!

    I dont think you would last 3 mins. In those wind conditions skin will freeze in less than a minute. Maybe one day you will get to try it.

This is for real.  I've often backpacked and camped outdoors for weeks at a time in weather like that . . .  without a tent.  Just a overstuffed down sleeping bag rated to -40° and a 6' x 8' nylon tarp.  I always carried everything I needed for two weeks on my back.  I lost 18 lbs during the two week trip and a total of 26 lbs. as I kept  losing for another week afterwards.  As I got older I did start to bring a tent.  Sleeping bag ratings are meant to be inside a tent, so we cold.  I remember one night I was listening to the radio in my WalkMan cassette player (early`80s it was) and a station in a town near the mountain we were on said it was -32°F, so it had to be colder up thousands of feet on the mountain.  I remember I could not feel anything below my knees one night.   On that trip I was sleeping one night in a nylon mesh hammock in similar very cold weather.  Because of the extreme cold I had the sleeping bag zipped up so tight there was only a tiny 1/4=inch hole to breathe through with a bandana covering it to try and warm the incoming air as I breathed.  I was trying to roll over in my hammock to get comfortable and I fell out of the hammock.  We were camped on a fairly steep hill and of course my arms were not coming out of the sleeping bag anytime soon. You can imagine a slick nylon cocoon sleeping bag on rock hard snow, I was sliding downhill fast.  It took me about 10-15 seconds or so to get my arms out so I could stop myself sliding down the hill.  My buddy was laughing so hard as he heard what happened that he fell out of his hammock and slid down to join me.  Fun memories.
