Early to mid `80s for this story. We continued doing this every year for two weeks every winter, usually in February/March time frame until 1995.  We also grew from two of us to 3 and then 4 guys.

I'm too old and not healthy enough to do that now, but back then I would have done it with no trouble.  We did Mount Washington in the Presidential Range of the White Mountains in New Hampshire in February 94 and 95.  Solid ice, wicked cold and wicked winds.

well, I've been hunting in the shenandoah valley where the only thing that didn't freeze was what was in the cooler, but that was all alcohol anyway. That happened several times during bow and gun season, which is oct-dec, it was a touch cold early in the season. And I've been skiing in WV and CO where the high of the day was 5*F. It's not bad when you're being physical at the same time, and dress properly for it

This year it was just dad, the dog and me for Christmas dinner so I made us a shepherds pie with elk and lamb meat, turned out very good. I suspect dad had 3rds because I didn't tell him it had elk in it. Damn dog was in the kitchen for two hours drooling while I was making it, he's very good at detecting game meat. When I walk him and we see a deer I call it a deer, when it's in the kitchen I call it Bambi and he knows both words. He was lucky find, he's smart enough to be stubborn. He won't do things he doesn't want to. But that's what I like about him.

5 F is a bit chilly but if you are dressed for it, its not too bad. I use to be outdoors all the time during the winter but not so much with age. About the only outdoor activity I do in winter now is skating on rare occasions. Maybe I'll get back into ice fishing even though I'm not a fish person. Dont matter ice fishing is more about drinking than fishing.
