just once it would be nice if the Caps had neutral announcers for national games

according to federal law, you can’t do both anywhere in this country

Who the  heck is wearing the Caps sweaters tonight?

Kuzy shot twice at about 5mph and the rest are not much faster or better

I am laughing pretty hard

Unloading the stress of watching that 65+ minute train wreck followed by the last couple posts.

Holtby saved our asses big time tonight!

That just might be the worst game we ever played and won!

Philthy had countless un-puck-luck

What was annoying was the mentality you could see -- they killed Philthy in the first half of the first and, but for Hart they would be up 3-0, and then they said, "this is too much work" and stopped playing until the game got tied.

Frustrating to watch.

Two points is two points.  I will take it.  I am not sure why there was such a big drop off from the 1st period but we did not play well in the 2nd and 3rd periods although we were better in the third.  I thought Flyers did a good job of shutting down are top two lines.  Wilson did have a couple of good chances in the third period but failed to convert.

When Panik looks like your fastest guy out there and still looks slow, you know you are having a bad night.

Nearly all Caps appeared to have their laces tied together and gloves on the wrong hand, and using opposite handed sticks. Barely a pass went as planned. Weren't winning puck battles after the first 15 minutes. And none of them really seemed to give 100%.  Is that even possible?  Sometimes I wonder if it's just me, because I can't explain what I watched. It's not like Philly were playing that well except for a few steals.

I've moaned less over some losses than this 'win'.

Frustrating was the perfect word to express what we watched.

So it drives me crazy when we get to OT and we send out Kuzy to take the faceoff - which of course he loses. I know you want Kuzy on the ice, but either pair him with Backstrom or let him transition in after we get the puck. Drives me nuts!!!

Hey Everybody!
Thought I’d chime in. Haven’t posted in a little while.

I’m with Apace!
What an obvious difference in overall team mentality, from what we’ve been accustomed to over the last 10-12 games.

Its not every player that’s guilty, rather, what seems to me, a few of the major fellas, the usual suspects, that begin to turn down the energy/commitment level, just a bit, then it seems to gradually spread to some of the other guys, AND IT DOESNT TAKE BUT A FEW of these boys, to have throttled it down slightly, and then it starts going downhill.

Poor passing, weaker play along the boards, bad timing, and being out of sync, all start rearing their ugly heads!!
As if in lock step with the declining 5 on 5 play, when this issue occurs, it is NOT COINCIDENTAL, that our power play suffers, as well, as we witness our famous “Keystone Kops”, version of our PP, where it appears as though the hockey gods, have completely removed and erased the great PP skills from the collective brains of our “BIG 5”, on PP1.

Funny, how that crap often goes hand in hand!

OK... Now that this is off my chest,  I must confess to having to correct a few of my opinions,  that I’ve shared here recently about our wonderful Washington Capitals team!!

Although, this singular game with Philly wasn’t a good performance, by any stretch, I’ve been moved to change my general opinion on Coach Rierden.

I, like many of us “Over 50”, old school hockey fans, have been frustrated over the years, grudgingly accepting, and dealing with, the ever changing, and progressively softer, NHL product, that is today’s style of professional hockey!

This causes me to feel great dislike, for any part of NHL hockey that represents itself, in my mind, as a culprit in contributing to the demise of the game!
Lazy, entitled, player attitudes, baby’s-butt soft coaches, pussified rule changes, and so on, all have their guilty hand in the mix!

It is at this sports fan crossroad, where I’ve realized that IT AINT CHANGING!!

(For many of you more balanced individuals, the acceptance of this fact, may have been a much easier process for you, and you have my compliments)!!

For my old, unbalanced ass, LOL 😂, let’s just say its a tough pill to swallow!

Anyway, my point is in realizing that Rierden, is proving to be an extremely successful and talented coach, WITHIN THE TYPE OF NHL ATMOSPHERE, THAT HE’S BEEN ASKED TO PERFORM IN!!!

NOT the NHL, that I want and long for, from the days of yesteryear!!
(Psst...Rush, wake up, IT AINT 1972, anymore, you idiot)!!

Hence, by that logic, John Carlson is also very successful, and plays a majorly important role for our team, by today’s NHL standards!

Unfair, on my part, to judge them against old, outdated hockey standards, and my nostalgic idea of what hockey should be, when it’s NOT REALISTIC anymore!

 It’s two separate things:
1) The sour, general, opinion of today’s hockey, that I can still maintain!
2) Assessment of “Today’s NHL players”, by “Today’s NHL standards”

SEE...So for some of you old traditional farts, like me....
THERE MAY BE HOPE, AFTER ALL!!!😂🤣😂

(No worries, Beags, my friend. I don’t have dementia)🤣😂

I'm with you Rush.

But think about this....Which team would you rather watch play....

Your 1972 Capitals or your 2019 Capitals?

I'm old school but can't say the old Caps were that much fun to watch when they lost more than they won...and not just winning/losing, but not really competitive

So I "watched" last night's game really late.  Started about 10pm and made it through the 1st.  Apparently my clairvoyance was running high because I fell asleep right at the end of the 1st period and woke up 1 minute into overtime.

Sounds like my nap was more fun to watch than the Caps play for that stretch anyway.

OT was mostly painful, watching Ovi and the boys being stranded in their own zone about 3 minutes.

Good news is we stole a win in the shootout.  Oshie and Kuzy are pretty magic there.  Take the two points and slink away.

Also good is Holtby does pretty well in the shoot out and his play has been much improved over the last several weeks.  Looks like Holtz again.

Panik looked good (in the 1st when I was watching).  He hasn't scored but he looked good.  I think it's too early to panic on Panik.  He wasn't hired to be a superstar, but a solid third line guy who can fill a spot (at a certain dollar figure) and maybe kill some penalties.  He is a fairly good sized body on a third line, who will OCCASIONALLY score a goal.  I'm not expecting 20 goals out of him.  I'm was HOPING for 15-20 MAYBE on the year, and he has been hurt for what a month?  The guy scored 22 goals ONCE in his career and then 14 and 11 were his next best years, so IF you are expecting him to suddenly become a goal scorer, you are unrealistic.  He's no sniper.  His career stats put him at .178 goals per game, and .379 pts per game.  That's an average of 14.5 goals and 16.5 assists for 31 points per year.  Guy has been in the league roughly 7 seasons prior to this one, so not sure why anyone would expect a big jump in his offensive numbers for a guy who has always been pretty pedestrian in that area.  I realize the Caps are currently fortunate in that they have quite few younger guys who could possibly fill that same role at a better price tag, but I think Panik was brought in as a known entity and the younger guys are ..."unproven" maybe?  I mean look at Stephenson - he is like Jeckyl and Hyde from season to season.  Boyd looks good, but he's not as big a body.  I guess you could throw Lewington into that spot.  Anyway, considering what Panik was/is, I am not giving up on him or considering him a failure just yet.
