--- Quote from: altajava on Friday January 12, 2018, 09:58:47 PM Eastern ---So far this year Carlson has a -3, which will go up after tonight. That's why he neither an mvp or a Norris candidate
--- End quote ---
That number means nothing. I think 5 on 5 Carlson is plus 9. He is minus 6 on the shorthanded goals against and minus 6 on the empty net goals we have given up. You are really going to blame all the empty net goals and short handed goals on Carlson. All you are doing is proving my point. You are being unrealistic.
--- End quote ---
I have never blamed an eng on anyone person, that's a team effort. But yes, he has given up a couple shortys this year with his lackadaisical passing
--- End quote ---
I know Carlson has made some mistakes that have lead to goals. All of our defensemen have. He has also done a lot if good things for our team but you refuse to acknowledge that. Funny you rip him for being a minus 3 which I believe is now a minus 2 and if you take the empty net goals away he is a plus 4. You also have to remember he plays a lot of minutes against the top players. You say he doesn't deserve to be in the all-star game. You think Letang over Carlson? Letang has been a pylon all year.
--- End quote ---
I haven't watched enough of Letang to say, but I've seem enough of the Metro play to say Carlson wasn't dissed.
Have even wondered why your opinion of Carlson is in an extreme minority?? It obviously hasn't occurred to you but you are capable of being wrong.
--- End quote ---
You dont even really know my official opinion of Carlson. And my opinion isn't a minority anywhere but here and I dont get it. Who do you think deserves to be can all-star over Carlson in the metro? Seth Jones? Ya I can live with that. Letang? He has been brutal. Leddy? Probably worse than Letang. Shattenkirk? Lmao . Carlson has outplayed them all both sides of the ice and your opinion doesn't change that. Is he the best dman in the league? Hell no but he us by far our best dman.
Since we are talking about opinions here is my official opinion of Carlson. I think he is a decent 2 way dman. Plays pp and kills penalties. Has a good shot. Pretty good at joining the rush. His defense can be suspect at times. He is decent at one on one coverage. He does have a good stick defensively. His biggest faults are turnovers on lazy passes and lack of physical play. You guys think I am a Carlson lover when the truth us he isn't even one of my 5 favorites players on this team. I have defended him because I dont like how he gets blamed for everything but get very little credit for the good things he does. His name gets thrown out there with more negativity than anyone else on this team.
At first I thought the Caps wouldn't keep him after this season but with all the losses on defense I feel that has changed. The Caps have already had talks with Carlson. Sorry guys but I'm pretty sure Carlson isn't going anywhere.

ArJ is intelligent enough to see that some of us continuing to point out Carlsons flaws is because some of us refuse to agree to disagree. I wonder where I've heard that before
Beaglefan2:
Maaco, I actually think your official opinion on Carlson is not that far off. I think what you are missing is how the lazy turnovers and lack of physical play really, really infuriates those of us that are not Carlson supporters.
I think it is time to wish him well and move on.

Sometimes it takes someone to be the calm eye of the hurricane! Thanks Beags, you made a lot of sense there, my friend!
I’ll try harder to apply the “wish him well and move on” comments as well!

^^^^^this
last nights stats have been tallied. Carlson has improved to a -2 on the season, and Nisky, whom someone here has pounded into the sand this year, is a +18.
I've never looked at a players CORSI numbers, I read what it is, is supposed to tell us, and how it's flawed, so I don't use CORSI, and haven't been disappointed either. There aren't really any stats that I do put weight in, except for goalies. Pretty much, my sole form of player evaluation is just watching them play, their on ice awareness, how much energy they appear to expend, how physical they are for their size. Plus/minus a little, but as we saw with 55 having a +50 season half of that is chance, then the Caps trade him to Shitsburg and he gets a ring for doing frikin nothing.
