Here is a question. If Kuzy doesn’t score, do the refs actually call the penalty on Letang for throwing his stick?
I was wondering about that too.

I'm sorry, but I'm going to have to call you on this baloney.

An elimination game can NEVER be a trap game.  C'mon, if the shoe is on the other foot (and heaven knows it has been a number of times over the past decade), you'd NEVER allow the excuses that the opponent had new players in the lineup, or the team didn't have sufficient time to prepare, or the other team's goalie had a great game (which Holtby did last night).  You KNOW you'd say that those types of excuses are for losers.  So if you're not going to allow that kind of thinking to let the Caps off the hook when they lose, then don't use it to minimize what they accomplished last night under what were challenging circumstances for them.

If I recall, a few weeks ago you said they weren't going to win even a single game in the second round.  And if I recall, you commented about Tampa being a small and not very strong team at the beginning of the playoffs.  Funny how perceptions can change in a few weeks.
Wow. . . You completely misconstrued everything I said.

Looks like I need to slow down for you. . . A main, if not the main factor we won is the weren’t the same ol Caps that they have seen, prepared for, and know how to beat, and beat regularly.   On the opposite side we had to simply what we did as well, thus altering the scheme they prepared for over the last 10 years.

And no way in hell any player, coach or fan of The Hens thought they had a chance in hell of loosing that game,  or the next.

No Backstrom, No Wilson, No Bura, in a second round against a team you have a historic playoff win percentage against? Everyone of those arrogant cunts thought they had the next two games.  Why wouldn't they?

We simply did an excellent job of using an ad-hoc lineup, to take advantage of an overconfident and overrated enemy.

And yes, I did say they wouldnt win a game, and part of that was due to the Caps refusing to change.  Well, they did and it worked.

I heard this on EpN this AM. . . Walton lost his shit!

yep, Walton did lose his shit, I had the radio on and tv muted. I didn't expect a goal anytime soon, so missed hearing the nbc asses sound like their team just died.

I did catch pierre interview Kuzy, he screwed up that interview just like he did with OV's "overtime winner",  he is so unprofessional I don't understand why he his still employed. People with better credentials than us think Pierre is an idiot too....

I don't recall saying small or not very strong.  . . their forwards are not collectively big, but on D they're huge.  They don't get in many fights, but play a high defensive game.

I will say I don't like this matchup.  Its like we will be playing the other nemesis of the Rangers, with Headman, Stamkos, and a younger Lundquist.  This is another team who is very familiar with us, but is better coached and in a better organization than Hens, so are unlikely to have the weakness we exploited.

Well boys, what do you think?  About time, eh? ;D   I thought everyone played an extremely disciplined game and it was a well deserved win.  Special kudos to the Eller-Oshie-Vrana line and the whole defense.  Niskanen had an outstanding game, one of his best in years.

Now, no letdown against TB!!   Keep it going!

The Caps changed for game 6 because without Backstrom to help contain Crosby and company, they had to.  Before that I really didn't see anything much different out of the team than the way they have generally played.

But I just don't buy the "Everyone in the Pittsburgh organization thought they had it in the bag" argument.  That is NOT a fact.  It is your opinion.  Frankly, I think more of it may be that after 2 Stanley Cup seasons and some more work in this year's playoffs, the Pens may finally have run out of gas a little.  Malkin made a sort of elliptical comment about that in the postgame last night.  And their defense sure looked as if it was succumbing to battle fatigue at times out there.

As for the Tampa series, I agree, that will be a tough matchup.  A big concern is that we aren't really sure what's wrong with Backstrom, and we'll never really know until after the playoffs are over, if then.  The two most likely possibilities are a broken bone or a deep bruise, and neither is something that goes away in a few days.  We really need our array of defensive centers in place against Tampa -- right now they are a lot more balanced scoring team than Pittsburgh was.  And if the Caps manage to get by the 3rd round, there will be another tough matchup in the finals no matter who advances out of the West.
If the Caps can figure out a way to win the Cup this year, no one will be able to say that they didn't earn it.

Who says that it is just the Organization that has been unsure whether Trotz would be returning?  Maybe Trotz doesn't want to come back for some reason.

That is a good point and I even thought of saying in my post “assuming he wants to come back”.  There have been rumours that Trotz and MacLellan don’t get along but I question whether there is any truth to them.  I expect to see Trotz back here next season.

You're still missing the point, . . .the changes gave us an advantage that we never created or took before.  Injuries and suspensions to three regular players should not be the only the reason not to use the same line-up card every night, ya know the naive ideology that some treat is the 11th Commandment.

To put it bluntly:  they know how to beat us.  They aren't great, its not luck, its not divine intervention, its not Shakespearian tragedy.  The know what we will do from system to player and they know how to beat it.   All the time there where minimal adjustments, tricks, misdirections, shuffling, ambushes, traps, or anything of the sort.  Just the "same line up card, same system, with skill and luck we have a chance"
 :koolaid:

As you said earlier, "they had to change". . . unfortunately it took being forced to adjust, to do something that disrupts their scheme instead of just shouting  "heaven makes the faithful suffer but will reward in the end, can I get an A-MEN!" for 10 years as we do the same thing over and over again.

And you give the Pennsyltuckey trash and their man-crushes way to much credit,  No one would fear a team that gave them three Cups* because of their commitment to marketing and entertainment.  We have let them look way better than they are for 20 years, why would they respect us in the least?

And yes, if  (IF) Caps make it they would of earned it, . . unlike The Hens and theirCups that where pre-engraved in October.

I disagree that the pens are overrated and not "great". They've won 3 cups in the Crosby era including back to back. How is that overrated? Not only did they beat us, but everyone else they played as well on their way to 3 cups.

TB is a nightmare match up for the Caps. We'll just have to see what happens.

Om paper Tampa is a mightmare matchup for everyone.   They only have size, speed, Norris trophy type defenseman [Hedman], Hart Trophy type offense with Stamkos and Kucherov, and a Vezina caliber goalie with Vasilevsky.  Aside from that, what's there to worry about?

I honestly don't think TB will be as hard as everyone thinks.  Don't get me wrong, it won't be easy but I do think we can prevail.  As long as we continue to play the way we have been.  I'm more worried about the west coast than TB.  I don't think we have the same negative mindset that hung over us like it did with the Pens in the past.  And if we do lose and do move to the Stanley Cup Finals, I will be ok with that as long as we play like we have been.

My concern is that they exhale and think they have done something.  Feels great to beat the pens but it doesn't mean much without a Cup.

Tampa will be tough and we need to pay them back for a playoff ousting as well...  Fuck Tampon Bay.  I hope they are fired up and didn't blow their collective wad last night.

You must be a relative noob.  If there is no cup then it's all for naught.  I'm not satisfied with a conference final or a finals appearance.  We want the world and we want it..... NOOOOOWWWWW.

Actually I have been around for quite some time, just chose to leave the original boards because of the pompus, asshole,  ego maniacs.   You don't know me for shit, so you can take noob assumption and shove it up your ass.

Now with that said....
Yes in the big picture it's the cup or bust.  I don't think that if we don't win the cup it will all be for naught because we have moved forward instead of backward.  We have broken through a huge barrier that has kept us at bay for years.  Progress is success, so I wouldn't call the Caps being a failure if we don't win the cup this year.  That's all I'm saying.  You can agree or disagree it doesn't matter or make either one of us right or wrong.

Yeah count me among those who want to see us win a Cup but still recognizes what this does for our clubs psyche. It's a huge step forward, it's not about overlooking that step and assuming we've won. That isn't what we are doing. It's about knowing that without a shadow of a doubt this playoff season the Caps have taken a step forward. That leaves me with more optimism than we've ever had with Ovechkin, which I think is a good thing.

That said however we obviously want to make this year be the year. And TB is a good team. However I do think the fact that we were doing what we did with a diminished roster says volumes to the depth, especially at forward. Stephenson, Boyd, Walker, Gersisch. We had a lot of Hershey boys step up, some of which are likely to feature on the roster going forward. Walker specifically impressed me, had the hustle like Jay Beagle out there.

Thanks but I don't shove things up my ass.

It's Cup of bust for me.  "Progressing" to the third round is empty without a Cup.  Success is success.  There is only one winner.  All others fail.  "Progress" is what those who lose console themselves with.

Don't get me wrong, sending the pens home is gratifying as hell, but it still doesn't scratch that itch.
