Edzo thinks Carly should have been considered for the Norris.  Thinking the Jersey boy might be going to Jersey.
Too many good dmen in the league for Carlson to win a Norris. He will get some votes. I'm not really surprised at the 3 finalists. Hedman and Doughty are the best dmen in the league. Not sure I would have had Subban as the 3rd. I was thinking Seth Jones, Jossi or Pietrangelo for the 3rd guy. Glad to see guys like Karlsson, Burns and Keith arent finalists.
Keith completely fell off the face of the earth this season.

If Djoos can't be trusted to play more than 10 minutes in an OT game like this, then put somebody else in.  Maybe try Bowey.  He's well rested.  They have to do something -- they hardly used Orpik during the OT period, I imagine because he's slow to begin with and at his age he only has so much in the tank any more.  They can't just kill Niskanen and Carlson.

Carlson is doing good so far this playoff, definitely he is less careless. Also his next pay depends on this this. Anyway let's give him a thumb up!

Even though the first goal was a bit shaky he played very well. He stole that game in the 3rd period when we were out shot 16-1.

I think both goalie were good, but Holtby held his fort in the third, and I think you are right!

May be BJ played their best game in the series, and kudos to Caps for strong performances in OT.

The top 4 in TOI in the playoffs is Seth Jones with the most. And our dmen are 2nd, 3rd and 4th. Kempny gets a regular shift 5 on 5 but doesnt play on special teams. Orpik is limited a bit 5 on 5 but he kills penalties. Djoos is very sheltered. I understand why. He gets muscled off the puck easily. Not sure Bowie is the answer. He can handle the physical play but doesn't move the puck as well. Jerabek might be a better option but he is pretty soft in the defensive zone too.

Now I see Bowey just the opposite.  From what I saw when he was playing, he moved the puck and passed it out of the D-zone as well or better than any of our other defensemen.  Where he looked to me like he had a problem was along the walls, and as you say, it wasn't necessarily that he was outmuscled.  He didn't seem to be able to figure out how to position himself to win board battles; he was always on the wrong side of the puck and had no leverage to keep possession.  All during the season, when Carlson or Niskanen had the puck along the boards a lot of times the opponents would lurk, hoping to pick off an errant pass -- and we saw Niskanen and Carlson make plenty of them.  When Bowey had the puck along the boards the closest opponent always engaged him immediately to strip the puck away.

For sure Holts saved our bacon in the 3rd period.

Boweys problems getting the puck out if the zone weren't because he can't make the pass. He just wasn't quick enough in his decision making. Being paired with Orpik didn't really help him. I saw too many times during the regular season when Bowey had the puck in the defensive zone corner and Orpik was standing in the opposite faceoff circle around 60 feet away. Bowey was forced to eat it. I like Bowey better than Djoos. I don't really think either are ready for the NHL playoffs. I do think Bowey is going to be a good dman in this league in the near future.

Regardless, we need DefenseMEN. . .not more and more of the oh-so-trendy fourth forwards to move the puck to the other team.

I’m afraid you are going to have to wait for that to come back around. If it ever does. Having several defensive physical Dmen has gone the way of the enforcer. It’s all about speed and transition these days and it wins (see Pittsburgh Penguins). Until a team wins it all with brute force nothing will change.

Actually it already is.   The Hens went and got one of the best enforcers oil the game to add to there Defense,. . . (who at 6'7" isn't fast). . . and Boston has one in Krug and the other 5-6 are Defensive Dman or 200ft with a focus on D first players, . . . Tampa only has one in Stalman with 3-4 HOF caliber shutdown D, . .  Vegas has Miller and even Schmittys,  turned into a 200ft/sutdown first Dman.

This trend puck moving/transition fad were still trying to catch u, to is about three years old, and teams are starting to move away from it.. . most importantly the teams we are trying to catch are moving away from it.  The longer we praise and convert the likes of Carlson, Bowerey, Djoos, Orlov JJ25. . . . the teams that don't are gonna stay ahead of us and continue to beat us.

I don't mind having one or two offensive dmen but I'd prefer the other 4 were excellent defenders. In today's game dmen have to be able to skate but that doesn't mean they can't be good defensively.
I'm like DC and I like old school dmen. I'm starting to accept puck moving dmen. Why can't a dman be a stud defensively and be a puck mover. DC would rather have Lewington because he can hit and fight.
