Now that Gudas is gone, how about signing Trouba who will be a free agent?  I love that guy!  He keeps guys on their toes, or they end up looking at the rafters.  I have no idea what the money side would be.

Trouba must really like California. He signed with San Jose for 4 years at $8.25M per.

I just don't see how they have money left for Ovi. Starting to doubt he's coming back. They now only have 3.56m left in cap space..

Boone Jenner (33yo) C 5.75m x 4
Vincent Desharnais (30yo) RD 4.2m x 4

Team should be fun to watch either way. Just gonna really miss seeing the Gr8 out there, if he retires.  :(

Caps signed 33 yr old UFA Boone Jenner to a 4 year deal at $5.75M per. He’s listed as a center/left wing.

This says they have $7M in cap space. Still a little thin for an OV contract.

Another interesting twist here is Jenner was the captain in Columbus the last few years. If OV doesn’t come back everyone here assumed Wilson would get the C.

Sammi has gotten better, but this kind of reporting is a full time job. I don’t think she fully understands that.

Caps singed a couple more guys at less than $1M per, it appears to fill a couple holes in Hershey.

I’ve always loved Boone Jenner but I don’t love the contract at his age. I don’t think the Caps are viewed as a top destination and they have to give an extra year or two to the better free agents to get them. Should be good for the next two years though. Willy will still be the Captain.

I don’t know much about the defenseman they signed but I thought they would just pick up a good bench guy that could fill in for a while. Hope he is physical.

Saw that Pittsburg signed TVR. They just love our players!

Caps needed an extra D man to start the season at a minimum. If reports are accurate Sandin will be on LTIR until November.

Yea, who knows what the fuck they're doing.. But Im here for it!

Don't really like the old dudes tbh.. Thought we were getting younger and faster, but these two aint either.

Heard the RD is big, physical, clears crease, blocks shots, pk, etc.. They mention everything except if he can skate. Someone said he was a pylon. lol

Good for Carly!! Screw the Lightning too, but double screw the Hurricanes!!

i dont mind if the big RD is a somewhat of a pylon ....we needed 1 guy capable of clearing the crease.  we have enough figure skaters back there.  I dont think 4 yrs at 4m is bad for a 30 year old RD.... (shittsburgh is paying 4m per for a 34 year old TVR)

Glad to see TVR gone...2 years for 4m is more than i would have paid to keep him.
Also JC gets only 2 year deal at 8.5.  Again more than i would pay, but only two years and less than what was expected.  Wonder what Carolina offered him.  He must not have gotten any real great offers.

good for Duhaime getting a deal.
the other pickups look like utility fill in guys.  Needed a 4th liner for Duhaimes spot.  Where will Jenner play?  Can he win a faceoff?

Boy - Desharnais is a big rig! I think Big Mac’s time with the Caps is over - maybe he retired?

This team has gotten a lot tougher to play against and could be really good. We should score a lot more not only because of Tuch and kyrou but our D with Chicky and Hutson will be very aggressive.

If you cap it off with another great year from LT, this team could challenge anybody in the playoffs.

To respond to Mick's and Rich's posts ......

I saw an article that mentioned that Descharnais was a good skater, but that may have been a Caps article gilding the lily.

He apparently plays a physical game, so he is what is wanted that way.  BUT the article said that his 18 minutes and change average TOI last season was the most average minutes he has played, so he wasn't playing absolutely top pairing minutes, to be sure.  The article also suggested that the Caps might see him as a natural partner/protector for Hutson, which makes some sense.  His average TOI per game on the PK last year was among the top defensemen in the league, so he is I guess seen as a mainstay in that department.

As for Jenner, his help will be in the clubhouse as well as on the ice, and specifically for face-offs - he has consistently been over 50% for the last decade.  THAT will be a help.  He feels like a bridge to if/when Suvanto is ready.

Regardless of what you think of the quality of the Caps' acquisitions over the past few days, they clearly aimed to address the weak points in the team's performance last year.  None of this "hoping for regression to the mean," or anything like that.  Here's our weaknesses, and these guys (for other clubs) were good in those areas, so let's get them.  Maybe a couple of the guys were older than one might like, but you have to balance capability and availability for acquisition against optimum age when choosing who to acquire.

So, what do our D pairs look like. And who gets moved off the ice/roster when Sandin can skate again?

I guess if Ovi returns, Frank is our bench/pressbox warmer for forwards?

They should look to get something in return for Miro, imo.. Not sure they'd get much, but he seems to be buried in Hershey for the foreseeable future. Cristall is facing a similar battle.

Carlson limiting his possibilities to the east coast is what that contract is, mostly. The rest is the inevitable march of time that he’s not prepared to accept.

That's kinda sad The GOAT got the same $ as Carlson.. Organization should of had more class than that and bumped him up to 10m+ via bonuses..
