22yo d man Vincent Iorio was put on waivers today. The Caps needed to move someone for McIlrath to come off IR.
wow I hope he clears.

Iorio was claimed by San Jose.

Dubois sat out practice today, lower body. McIlrath is still listed on IR, but he can be activated tomorrow before the game.

Ouch.  That seems dumb, let a young BIG D man, 2nd round pick go for nothing.  I think I would risked Mac  - he'd have better chance of clearing.  I like Mac and all, but he's 35 and likely in his last year.  Caps must either see something in him they don't trust or have more talent up and coming they think can replace him before they need him.
I'm a little surprised - he made team out of camp and then lose him to waivers.
Chisolm has looked good, but still - with as many OLD D as we have, I would think Vinnie would have gotten some games this year.  For me, TVR and Carlson should NOT be renewed next year so..there 2 spots open.  Mac is in his last or close to last season at NHL level so he will be out of picture too.
I looked at Caps prospects and I don't see anyone on Iorio's level, and certainly not his size.  This is a head scratcher to me.
I would have risked Lappy, or Mac, or Milano before Vinnie.

The team couldn’t move Mac until he was off of IR. They had to move someone to clear a roster spot for Mac. Tough spot to be in.

Couldn't they have moved him from IR straight to waivers, w/o exposing anyone else? Who knows, but I think I trust Rich more than Chris Patrick at this point.. Dude hasn't done much of anything. All the good moves before last year were made by GMBM.  :(

That Iorio move WAS a head scratcher - I agree with everyone else here.  McIlrath I'm sure would have cleared waivers at his age, and Iorio was 100% guaranteed to be picked up - the organization knew that.  But if the Caps weren't going to play Iorio, what's the harm, I guess?  We weren't happy about losing Alexeyev either, but if you're just going to park the car in the garage and not use it, why not give it to Vehicles for Change?

Maybe the Caps feel confident enough in Chesley/Muggli/Hutson for the future that they are willing to go in that direction.

Feels similar to when we lost Siegenthaler for scraps.. He'll probably be the Sharks ice time leader by end of the year. lol

As I recall, the Seigs trade was for money. As in the team had none to spare under the cap. As usual, the Caps got screwed on that type of trade.

Dubois skating in a no contact sweater this morning. No way he dresses tonight.

Frank, TVR, Mcllrath are the healthy scrathes. We'll see Chisholm tonight!

Calling up a player makes no sense unless someone stays on IR today. Either McIlrath isn’t being activated or Dubois gets moved to IR, which works retroactively, he would need to miss Sundays game as well.

So who do you believe?

The Caps have more young players who are legitimate prospects in Hershey this year than they have had in many years - which may mean growing pains.

But speaking of growing, here are some stats according to the Caps' prospects page and the Hershey roster page:

           Player                     Ht/Wt Caps                      Ht/Wt Hershey

        Chesley                     6'0", 195                            6'2", 210
        Miroshnic.....             6'1", 185                            6'1", 205
        Cristall                      5'10", 167                          5'10", 187
        Muggli                       6'0", 165                           6'1", 180
        Protas, Ilya                6'5", 198                           6'6", 225

Hockey is known for inflating stats.  But the Caps site smacks of stats from Juniors that haven't been updated.

Based on what I’ve seen the past several years, I’d bet a large sum of money that the Caps front office has not updated the website. They seem to act like the website is outdated technology.

Pre game vs the Wild coach said Dubois won’t play Sunday either. He could have been put on IR, and no one would have needed to be waived until Monday. Not sure it mattered though.

The fact that TVR is a scratch further scratches my head about Iorio.  TVR is barely NHL worthy at this point.  Next year he's gone (I hope).  Why give up an asset like Iorio for NOTHING?, when you aren't even playing TVR..  FFS put TVR on waivers, who cares if he's taken.  Iorio could at least be traded for other assets at some point if you don't think he's up to NHL status....even just draft pics later.
other than the fact that Iioro was just thrown away, I LIKE that TVR is sitting.  Nothing against him but he's slow and barely serviceable at this point.  Chisolm is a better option IMO
WILD have some real motors on their squad so I assume that's why TVR is sitting.
they could have put Dubois on IR and saved Iorio.  Yes, still have a problem in couple days when Duby comes off, but then you could try to move MAC.  I know this is all smoke and mirrors, but damn every other NHL team does this BS, might as well use the rules to your advantage.

Iorio had nearly 20 minutes last night for San Jose. Including 3:00 of PK and a short shift on the PP.

It's been slow to load here since yesterday morning.  :(  Seems ok at the moment though.
