Clifton Forge this time. Marion is ground zero.

For Criminy sakes man I was born in Clifton Forge.  My dad taught at the HS there. (okay he was a shop teacher so "taught" might be a stretch)

Ovi needs only 231 more points to pass Mr Hockey for the #2 spot in history

scratch that...Jagr and Messier both have more (1921, 1887)

records.NHL.com needs to update their page photo - shows Gordy holding up #1850 puck with Wayne...that's some old news there.  You'd think they'd put a pic of Ovi on there considering....

OK, so I have a question about playoff structure.

It appears as if there are going to be 3 teams from the Metro and 5 from the Atlantic going to the playoffs.  If that transpires, will the Caps as #1 seed play the #2 wildcard team (either Ottawa or, most likely, Montreal)?  Or, if NJ stumbles to the finish and both Ottawa and Montreal finish ahead of them in points, could the Caps possibly play NJ in the first round, if they are the #8 points team?

Pretty sure we get #8 (2nd wildcard) regardless who it is.

And Rich, see I knew something was wrong with ya.  Cuz.  :snicker:

I was thinking of buying playoff tickets for the second round.
But now....I just don't know what team I'd want to go see  8-0

I meant to "post" this yesterday....The Washington Post has a big insert in Sunday's (4/13/25) paper about Ovi and the chase.  Several articles and lots of stats.  Interesting read if you an Ovi fan.
(I know this because my 83 year old father in law actually still reads an actual newspaper....If you consider the Post actual news that is)

What worries me most about the playoffs is the physicality.  The Caps have always been known as a big team and I don't see that.  Now Columbus is a big team!  They pulverized us and I would hate to play a team like that in the playoffs.  We have some guys with decent size like Carlson, TVR and PLD, but they are not aggressive physically - and Carlson does everything he can to avoid hitting somebody.  Ovi used to be a freight train and he can still hit but is not feared like he was.  Willy is our only player that people keep their heads up for.

I'm hoping that Radysh, PLD and Protus can turn it up a notch.

A couple other thoughts.  Leonard is not nearly NHL ready and his size is not close to what I was thinking. He could use another year of growing from a kid into a young man.

Eller has completely gone cold and is making some poor plays. Hopefully he gets it going in the playoffs.

Our playoff run is going to completely rely on LT playing extremely well.

This team is a clown show right now.  It's like they thought the goal of the whole season was getting Ovie over the line and now they can go on vacation.  They're 3-7 over the last ten and have allowed 45 goals.  The worst part is that once you get into that type of rut, you can't just flip a switch and get out of it.

The things that drove all the great success over the first 3+ months are now missing; the frantic forechecking, the disciplined defense and the good goaltending.  That falls on the players but even more so on the coaches.  They either can't see what's happening or can't correct it and neither is good.  I'm actually somewhat resigned to them getting eliminated right out of the gate.  If it doesn't happen, I'll be surprised.

Caps have 2 games left against teams that are eliminated, while the Caps have secured a postseason spot. It will be interesting to see how both sides play it.

Tonight on the the island, Thursday in Pittsburgh

Caps have sent Shepard back to Hershey and brought up goalie Clay Stevenson.
