Interesting - the Caps just signed a 20-year-old non drafted player, Zac Funk, who is the leading scorer in the WHL this season - 59 goals, and his vitals are listed at 6'0", 210 lbs, so he's NHL size already.  It's like getting an extra draft pick.  He wasn't even on the radar in his draft year two years ago.   Maybe he has a fatal flaw, like skating ability?  Or maybe he's just a late bloomer?  What the heck, he goes to Hershey next season, and we'll see what happens.

Interesting indeed! Saw the headline, I think Alta posted it a page back. Though all the articles I can find on him are behind pay walls, so not sure what (if any) weaknesses he has. Someone said he's good at finding ice away from the puck and just a late bloomer. Hard to believe we found some diamond in the rough though, cause, Caps. lol Can always hope though! 6'0 210# is definitely NHL size!

Yeah...bad timing with his latest goof.  Couple weeks earlier and he might have made enough show to get a free ticket elsewhere.  I think at this point teams will just pass on him.
But then, there's desperate teams out there...one could probably talk Caps into retaining half his contract.

I agree. That "player assistance program" is a stigma, regardless what anyone says. If he was young and productive he'd get more chances, but being on a 3 in 4 years decline someone will need to be VERY desperate to take on that contract. I think he's either bought out or agrees to terminate. Still be cool if he lights it up in Hershey. They said he looked good for his first practice.

yep, overpaid in my opinion. I think he’s closer to a $3.5M per year Dman. But, he is still young at 23 for a Dman, so theoretically he will still improve.

So, Monday the Caps send Dubι back to Hershey. Tuesday they trade give away Mantha. Either two guys are coming off IR for the Hens Thursday game or someone gets called back up from Hershey.

Wow - the Sandin contract is nuts. He is another small smurf type that they seem to love. If he is supposed to be a great offensive defenseman, I haven't seen it?  Whats his goal total - 3?  And he certainly isn't a stout defensive d-man.   


This might mean they are trading Jensen though.  They wanted to lock up Sandin to some term before they move Jensen.

Wow i hadn't heard they moved Mantha.  2nd round and 4th round isn't terrible.  Retaining salary is peanuts.  But was anyone here willing to risk signing him to a long term deal?   It might be worth if if we were not in rebuild mode, but Im okay with moving him.  At year end, we would get absolutely nothing for him, so basically we bought a 2nd and 4th round pick for what....less than $1m.

Fucking Vegas though.  I hope he likes it there...although who knows where he ends up next season

Nuts...maybe.  It is HIGH for him for sure right now.  But he's 23, so they kinda roll the dice a little.  If he ends up being decent, its not a bad salary when he's 27, 28, etc and is got some more experience.
I honestly think he's having an off year and will be better offensively.  His D is not terrible, but yeah his size ain't great.

GMBM is spending some of that Manth & Kuzy money I think.  I think Caps are absolutely done with Kuzy.  Carbs prolly just said fuck him...he's a cancer & I'd rather train some rookies.
I will be shocked if we see Kuzy in a Caps uniform next season

There is no way were going to, or should, resign Mantha and it will be interesting to see what he gets.  If he shows well in the playoffs, I bet he gets another payday - maybe 4.5 to 5.0 on a 3 year deal.  I have zero interest in him.


I just thought they would get a little more, but Tarasenko just got traded for a 3rd and 4th, so maybe they did allright.
