The 27-man roster contains 15 forwards, but Pacioretti is one of them, and he is likely to be on LTIR at the start of the season and doesn't figure to be back for awhile.  So there are really only 14 viable forwards at this moment.  If the team chooses to carry 13 forwards, as they ordinarily do, that means only one of Protas/McMichael/Phillips/Mirosnichenko/Malenstyn would get cut.

There are 9 defensemen, but again, there is an injury to the new guy, so maybe only 8?  That could mean one of Johansen/Haman Aktell stays.

I presume Gibson eventually gets cut.

Then there is the salary cap situation, which I am NOT on top of at the moment.

I am surprised by the NAK waivers move to Hershey. I know they are evaluating talent which is why Fever isn’t playing…he’s 100% a lock for a spot
I mean Phillips has looked good…always around the puck or net.
I’ll be surprised if Malenstyn makes the opening night roster though
Mantha…what can you say. They guy actually had been in the play and made some plays. I expect he makes opening night
FFS - HIT HIM!!!
SHOOT - THE - PUCK

With Pacioretti out for awhile from the 15 forwards on the roster, that would seem to mean that having Phillips and Malenstyn on the ice last night was a direct competition for the 13th forward spot on the roster -- IF you believe that Mirosnichenko has made the opening night roster.  They might be doing to him what they do  to underage players from time to time:  giving him a trial that lasts fewer than 10 games before sending him elsewhere.

I presume Aktell and Johansen are competing for the 7th defenseman spot, with the loser down to Hershey.  Edmunston is out for awhile from the 9 defensemen on the roster.  The top 6 will be Carlson/Fehervary/Sandin/Jensen/Alexeyev/TVR.

Did you see that no talent hack in the 8 car spin the tires on that last restart :snicker:

Soon as Suarez spun his tires on an earlier restart (inside lane) they leaders knew where the restart "spot" was.  :raspberry:

Need to go back to the oval.  :raised-eyebrow:

Let me help you out. Which way did you come in?

I’m not a fan of bubba, but it seemed like he got screwed. It wasn’t his fault he got spun at the entrance to a chicane, but he got penalized for driving through. Still, F him. At least I was awake for that part, it was a boring race.

Also not a fan of Bush so that worked out well.

definitely need to go back to the oval

I also didn’t get dinner til near 8pm because I watched the end of the race, and had to walk the dog before I could start cooking. Last time I make that mistake. They need to bump up the start times.

The team has enough speed, provided they pass the puck in a timely and accurate manner..

I get the paper transaction/salary cap, but I don't understand how sending McMike and Protas back to Hershey helps anything, if they intend to bring them back for Wednesday (and Friday's opening night)?  They gonna save like 150-200 bucks, for the 2 days?

yea, I don’t know. The season does start tomorrow so I’m guessing the cap starts when the season starts, not 4 days later when the team plays their first game.

Yea, it's about saving money Im sure. Bummer that it never adds up to enough, that we get a new/better player out of it. Lightning really hit the lottery (a couple times) when their LTIR(s) came off right as the playoffs started, so they didn't have to axe anyone until the offseason.  :-(

We know that the Caps are hard up against the salary cap, and you can bet your booties that these paper transactions are trying to save cap dollars at the very margin so they have room to add Pacioretti when he comes on board later in the season.

Presumably Pacioretti will be the 2LW when he returns, but in the meantime, McMichael in a top 6 role?  That's a real promotion from languishing in Hershey last season.

NAK and Aktell are enough to cover Paci's salary. Maybe they can't clear waivers? But, imo, that's who'll get sent down when he gets healthy. I guess the rest of this is just banking (minimal) money for the time being? 2 days can't be much.

So here is a dumb question. When they send down guys to AHL to help with the Cap, are those guys actually paid less?  Do their contracts provide a lower per day if they are in the AHL.  If so, that stinks for those guys, especially when you have a guy like Mantha eating of cap space.
