Hens management has put that team in the same position the Caps are in. The Hens have zero UFA/RFAs this off-season and they have $80,000 of cap space. Fat chance they can trade off some of those contracts. The owners should be hold some blame as well, same as here.

I think the GM (management) also made some "buy" type moves at the deadline that also kneecapped em' and didn't pay off. I don't follow them much, but from what I read Sid and Nancy both are still healthy and had good seasons, so they're probably in a better place than us, still. We have the high paid walking wounded we have to supply long term care for.

I've heard a few names thrown around. Im hoping for Jeff Halpern myself.

Back to the Penquins.  You have to admit that since Ovi and Crosby came into the league that the Pens management has been better than the Caps. They won more Cups and on average have outperformed the Caps - hard to admit it. I think the reason has been that their management has been way more aggressive with regards to trades and moving guys out. They are not afraid to change coaches or GMs.  Leonsis has always had a loyalty thing with his guys including players and management. GMBM has been here a long time and is just an extension of McPhee. Based on results, GMBM should be gone.


The Pens have kept their core 3 guys, but have otherwise been willing to trade anybody and have done so. The Caps have been an easy organization to play for and have never had a tough head coach that really holds guys accountable.  I would argue now that the right thing to do is to go to Ovi and tell him we need to do a full rebuild, but that part of that is to get him two linemates that can help him score. However, that's not gonna happen and GMBM will be here another 5 years.

I'd be okay with Halpern.  Didn't he play for Caps in Ovi's first season?  And come back for a year at some point?  (He did - I looked it up; Ovi's rookie season 05-06, and then 2011-12 (which was one of Ovi's worst seasons points wise)
What is he like 8 years older than Ovi? 


Smart fellow though.  I think he could fit here, and hopefully get some fresh ideas and changes (like all new coaching staff)


We shall see.  Not putting all this on Lavi cause this team has been handicapped with injury and salary cap, etc,, but It was definitely time to move on and ANYTHING is better than the status quo at this point (well....hopefully)

The goalie coach definitely needs to go. The PK coach, Scott Allen, is definitely worth keeping. I don’t know enough about the two video coaches, Leonhardt and Natzke, to give an opinion on them.

I agree on Allen - don't know anything about vid guys.  Of course....wouldn't a NEW coach maybe want to pick his guys?
