Looks like Mantha may get some top line mintues. He's been getting 2nd line and hasn't done shit. After GMBM said they'd be looking for a "top 6 forward with skill" in the offseason, if that doesn't motivate the kid, there's really no hope for him. I know I'd take that as a direct jab and practically kill someone out there to prove them wrong. But that's just me. We shall see..

Caps one point moves them temporarily into 5th spot chasing a WC spot.  They need to catch the Hens with 74 pts and 2 games in hand.  One point a night aint going to cut it.  Me thinks we might be done.
Ovi with 36 goals won't get 50, but should get 40. 
Sadly, the Caps have no other guys on the entire team with 20 goals.  Oshie 16 and Strome with 15 are closest.
That level of scoring ain't going to do it.

Connor McDavid has 54g and 124pts.  Draisaitl has 97 points  Edmonton leads the NHL with 254 goals
Boston is 2nd with 239g, but has a +104 goal differential.  That's huge.
Surprisingly (to me), Buffalo comes in 3rd with 237GF, but also allowed 234GA, so only a +3 overall.

I still like Sheary, even though he's going through a Mantha phase.. Hope they resign him for minimal raise. Smith they'll let walk. Brown is no way gonna get $3m after ACL surgery and nothing to show for his last season. Not sure if they try and resign him real cheap or let him walk. Heard he's not really a goal scorer? Haven't looked up his stats.

A 200% increase is a lot, but after the last two seasons TVR is probably worth $3m per for 3 years.  I think he would likely get that in FA after his play the last couple years.  He is a known entity that fits on this team and he could be a crutch to lean on with a lot of young D coming up on this team so I see why they'd want him.
I don't really have a problem with this.  Especially 3 years.  Most 31 year olds are looking for a 5 year so they can ride it out.
I'd rather a 3 year at 3m per to a 5 year at 2.5per


I'm curious to see what Orlov fetches next year (not comparing the two, but just curious)

I like Sheary as well, and hope they do sign him to a bargain deal.  Agree they will let Smith walk.  Brown - I got no idea.  I really liked him when they brought him in, but like you said - he's got nothing to show so hard to say what happens with him.
I have always assumed Hags will retire, but who knows.  I mean his game was 90% speed and with hip resurfacing, can't see him getting all that back at his age.
Although, with Jensen, TVR, Strome, and Milano ALL getting pay raises, I don't see how Caps can sign Brown or give Sheary ANY raise.....unless they move someone to shed salary.  Fehevary, Alexeyev & G Carlson are all RFA's, and IMO we have to keep Fever & ALexeyev at least, so all of these guys will be getting raises too.
Irwin...I don't think I realized he was 35.  I think retirement might be on the horizon for him.  Although, to be fair, he's been okay this year.  He's a last resort, but I might give him league minimum as a back up at best, but at this stage I'd rather see some younger guys get serious NHL seasoning.
With as well as Sundin has played, I think he will be a staple and easily a top 4 guy next year.  Having TVR, Jensen & Johnny Q, I don't think you need Irwin back - three old guys is enough.
HAVE to re-sign them, but Fever is a starter for sure and I think let Alexeyev and G Carlson play, and Iorio.  That's eight guys without Irwin.  If someone goes down, Iorio will have to play full time NHL.
Sheesh, Caps need to shed salary.  They have to be looking at moving Mantha.  Gonna throw away bunch of them new draft picks they just got to move that mountain.  Backstrom coming back to playing is a great story, but it really didn't fit in my Salary cap plans for them next year.
Caps are at $78.8m right now WITHOUT Fever, Alexeyev, Carlsson, Irwin, Sheary signed. Cap is $82.5.  Don't think we signing all five of them for $3.7m

Not that it helps this team much, but the salary cap for 23-24 should be $83.5M, and, buttman has said it could go as high as $86M if the league is able to payoff some debt this summer.
