the last time I went to an NHRA race there was a "beer garden" all the way at the end just past the finish line. All beer had to be consumed within the "garden". It wasn't worth it.

In other news, tomorrow Nascar tests "rain tires" at Martinsville..   :clown:  Goal is to see if they can run in "damp" conditions at shorter/flatter tracks. Loudon, Phoenix, Richmond and Martinsville.

didn't they run rain tires and put windshield wipers on the cars for the road tracks about 30 years ago?

Not sure when they started bringing rain tires to road courses. It was a long time ago though, but they only started to actually use them in the last few years. I remember once at Watkins Glen, back in the day, they had rain during practice and told the drivers to get out there and get used to it. I think Mark Martin was the only car to turn a lap. And iirc, he only turned one.  :snicker:  Rain tires on an oval though, that's gonna be a stretch.. I suppose they could on the slower flatter tracks, but I have my doubts they'll ever actually do it. Sport is hangin by a thread though, so they're looking for any gimmick they can think of to generate interest/ticket sales.

Well the Nats opening day got started off on the wrong foot.  Pfffffft.  Postponed due to three Nats players tested positive for Covid-19

Hey...look at the bright side...the Nats are now ahead of the Braves and Miami in the standings.   :smirk:

The largest cruise ships, the voyager class by Royal Caribbean, are 1024 feet long and 158 feet wide, carries 3100 guests, 4300 people total, are 138,000 gross tons, and are propelled by 3 diesel electric azipods. The newest container ships are 1300 feet long, 200 feet wide, have a crew of less than 40 people, can carry 23,960 20 foot shipping containers, are 228,000 gross tons, are propelled by 1 extremely large diesel engine(MAN 11G95ME-C) with a single 35' screw and are too big to go through the recently enlarged Panama Canal. Both of them cruise at 22 knots.

Panamax boats are 950' long and 106' wide, and max out at about 5000 shipping containers. The NeoPanamax boats are 1200' feet long and 168' wide, and max out at about 14,000 containers. The recent canal expansion is estimated to have cost at least $10B, possibly $14B. Panama is already looking at another expansion that can accommodate the new massive container ships in service, at a preliminary estimate of $20B. Panama almost doesn't have a choice as transit fees are the number one source of income for the country, and China keeps threatening/promising to build a bigger canal through Nicaragua, at a significant destruction of the environment.

The suez needs to massively expand as well for these newish super cargo ships.
