I disagree a bit with you guys. If the game meant something I would think differently. Whywould you want one of your better players to fight and risk an injury in a meaningless preseason game. It makes non sense. I know there is such a thing as pride but there is also being smart.
Having said this though I would have done the not as smart option and I would have fought him.
I dont have a problem with Ekblad not fighting but he just stood there and took a shot without even trying to defend himself.

Wilson with a quick scrap

Now before everyone goes all Fisto-Zelot, and claiming i’m some drunken naive neanderthal who dares challenge the beta-manifestos of their “Mr. Bettmans”, “Mr. Leonis”, and “the New NHL”, etc.  This is a prime example of why we need an elite enforcer:  because every fighter is and will continue to challenge Willie.

While his fighting skill set has improved drastically over the last few years, it will be hard for the rest of his is game is to continue to improve while he’s the only enforcer on the team.  The addition of an elite enforcer (not just a willing fighter) with a primary role to challenge, defeat, and get those who would challenge Wilson off the ice would keep him on the ice more.

Besides, if the team that “Mr Leonis”, “Mr Patrick”, “Mr Beta”, put together is SO GOOD, and the playoffs wherent an anomaly, and we have so much “talent and skill” , why couldnt they add cover for one player in the box for 5-15 min a game to get more “top line production”?

I have no problem having a great fighter on the team as long as he can actually contribute in other ways. I've never believed in a guy taking up a roster spot to just fight.
Guys like Dave Brown or Craig Cox never should have been NHL players.
I had a lot of appreciation for the tough guys that could actually play the game.

Since you showed Maroon fight I thought I might add that he was a player I was hoping we would go after.

I think any "fighter" who can make an NHL even AHL team can contribute in other ways.  Id matter of how they're used in a teams system, situations they are used in, adjustments in training,  and their hockey IQ.  Granted you'll probably sacrifice some toe drags, highlight real plays, and some scoresheet numbers, but as long as they play smart, add physicality, improve board play. . .and oh, say drop back to cover the short side while a D pinches. . .they could be utilized effectively.

Like we've said before, look at Olesniak who was regarded as just a slow goon and is now one of the Hens top Ds as they dont play the ridiculous system Dallas was playing

Olesniak is a capable player. He could be a top 4 on a lot of teams. I did mention a couple of guys from the past that had no business being on a roster. There were a few players in the 80s like that.

And there are players that won’t/cant fight that had, or have, no business on an NHL roster either.

Now this is just humiliating. . . Marchant has 8 career fights, in seven years.  Is a rat, diver, embellisher, and agitator who hides behind Cara, Millar and others.   He does THIS to our "3rd line center".  Its utterly embarrassing and humiliating that veteran on this team gets that done to him by Marchant, participatory after taunting them.

I don't think Eller was taunting Boston.  They might have seen it that way (and I don't believe so), but Eller was looking at the CAPS bench and celebrating with them.  The bullshit about "taking" a line by our bench is just that...bullshit.  Eller skated from the o-zone directly to the Caps bench.  Just so happens the Boston bench is between the two.  He did not taunt the bench or even look their way.

Sure, you don't rub a team's nose in it when you're up 7-0, but I don't think Eller did.  Eller was celebrating HIS 1st goal of the year and why the fuck not?  Why not go after us on goal 4 or 5 or 6 for celebrating after a goal - no different at that point?  Are we supposed to let up and just stop shooting the puck?  Fuck em.  Try playing some D.

Also don't think Eller really thought it was going to be a fight.  He just sort of grabbed on.  Marchand is a piece of shit and always has been.  Not that Eller is a fighter but Marchand did kind of jump him.  I don't think Eller was expecting any punches.

What's the difference if Eller is our 3rd line center?  I don't understand the relevance of that?  Meaning our 3rd line guys should be tougher?  I'll grant you that, but not on this team.  We all new that coming in this year.  But that is no different from last year's STANLEY CUP CHAMPIONS.  I don't think anyone can complain about the performance of our 3rd line center last year.  I'd love to have more toughness on this team, but I'll take another Cup over a hard nosed 3rd line center any year.

Yes this team is too soft.  Yes we need more toughness.  Don't think anyone was/is ever expecting it comes from Eller.

Boston should be embarrassed and humiliated by their performance (and by Marchant), not the other way around.

I think what DC is getting at is that 3rd line players are usually known for more checking and physical play. Not our team though. We have had some soft teams over the years but this is the softest team yet. Without Wilson in the lineup we are a joke physically.

When dad finally passes I'm relocating. Too many people in one place here, traffic is a nightmare because public transport sucks ass and real estate is way over priced because the federal workforce is far too big. Im really considering Nashville just because they have hockey, and good hockey too. Last time I was there was late April of 2017, the town was definately excited about their team

I hear Nashville is really nice - have some relatives who absolutely love it there, and a few friends that have visited and would like to live there permanently.  I have only passed through a couple times, so can't say myself.
They are definitely into their team there.  City has embraced hockey more so than expected I think.

Hell yeah, I would get out of this zoo if I could.  Although, I'm really on the fringe now so I don't have to deal with it as a daily commuter, but I do get my share of 66.
I hear real estate is pretty high in Nashville, but "high" is all relative...Just ask Dylan    (that's for you Maako)

If you do relocate I hope you remain a Caps fan. Nothing wrong with having 2 teams and Nashville is a good a team as any to root for.

Bert’s newphew lays out a former teammate after hitting an “injured” player.

Some will call this bush-league, I call goos startegy.  Have the other team go down one man, possibly two if there’s an instigator call with out getting a penalty for your team, in “today’s NHL”? Brilliant

The only problem I see with this play is that the hit on the injured player was well after he cleared the puck. Wasnt the best angle but it looked like he took a couple strides after the puck was gone.

oh yeah, NO WAY that was an accident🤣

But it was really just message sending, he didn’t do much more push him, if he really wanted to do damage he could of utterly destroyed him
