I've been a fan of Orlov since Day 1, but he just looks lost out there.  Looks like his confidence is shot and he just flails around.

First goal, 12 seconds in, was all on Backstrom.  He gave zero effort on the face off, then loafs on defense.  He's starting to remind me of Dylan.

I'd say Reirden is down to counting on 1 hand the number of games he has left to register a W.. Probably 3 will do it.  :uh-huh:

How many years did they give him on a contract?  Ted will not let a nickel slip by.

I'd guess 3? But being a 1st year coach it shouldn't be too much $$..

I’ll say it again - he isn’t the only reason we lost - got it?

Got it.  SIR.

He was out at the end of a shift and just skated all the way behind the net.  He scored a hattie.  How the fuck could you put any of that on him?

What about our illustrious All-Star fucking goalie who couldn't stop a fucking thing tonight?

Totally agree. Ovi did his best all fucking game. He scored 3 goals and made some solid defensive plays during the empty net period, and even almost scored a 4th. He's the last guy the loss is on. The fact that his team was in that position in the first place despite his 3 goals is telling.

Quite frankly, with how garbage our defense has been, I would have placed better odds on us winning due to an Ovechkin 4th goal than us actually closing out the game with solid defense. Seriously. I think putting him out there with an empty net was us playing the probabilities.

Anyway, as a fan of hockey and as a fan of Ovechkin, I fucking loved this game. The entertainment value was off the charts, and seeing God's gift to hockey score another hat trick was awesome. Fun fact, it is his 23rd hat trick of his career, and 3rd of this season. This is his 14th season, so his 3 hat tricks this year is already double his annual average of 1.6 hat tricks per season. At age 33.

As a fan of the Capitals, this was yet another garbage game. We should have been fired up after an 8-5 loss to the literal worst team in the NHL. We should have been fired up after that so called player's only meeting. We should have been fired up knowing that we were playing on home ice against a tired Sharks team without their two-time Norris trophy winning defenseman. We should have been fired up after seeing our Captain, Alex "Russian Jesus" Ovechkin, score his 3rd goal and giving us a 6-4 lead with 15 minutes left in the game. This team still manages to fuck things up.

At this point I'd trade Reirden for 10 Martin Erats.

No Rant today - short synopsis :

Just for clarity, I've ranked these on a scale of thumbs up being good with a max of 5 and 0 being neither bad nor good, and 5 turds being the absolute worst you could get

Caps O:          (O probably deserves 5, but NO, can't do it)
Caps D:  (well I should leave this blank because there was NONE, but)  :poop: :poop: :poop: :poop: :poop:

Caps PP:  :poop: :poop: (they did score one PP goal, but they gave up a Shortie on a 3 on 0)  So essentially they are even

Caps PK:   :poop: :poop: :poop: :poop: :poop:  (times infinity)

Goaltending:   :poop: :poop: :poop: :poop: :poop:   ( you have to stop the puck at least occasionally, even without any help from your team)

Overall Team play:   :poop: :poop: :poop: [/size] (I started with 5 turds here, but they DID score 6 goals)
FFS - HIT HIM!!!

I see alot of back and forth about Ovi's play and stupid coaching about having him out there, etc...

I thought Ovi played a great game.  He scored the hattie, but he hustled too.  He WAS hustling back on D the whole game.  He was putting forth the effort.
He was the one guy hustling back on the 3 on 0.  He was the first back and took his man out of the play.  Not his fault the first guy in shot and beat the goaltender.  Had there been a rebound (gasp - ye blasphemer) Ovi had his man covered.  You can't put ANY of that goal on Ovi except that he happened to be on the ice.  Kuzy made a stupid pass back to the point which Dylan was too stoned to keep in.  Ovi was on the far wing and hustled his ass off to get back.  He could not catch the first guy in but he went to the second man (well...one of them) and took him out of the play.
I'm not one to defend Ovi's typical defensive game play because he has earned some of the reputation for taking shifts off and not playing D.  Last night's effort was not one of those.  He played a good game.

7 goals against is a team loss.  It's on everyone, and Ovi is the Captain so he gets his share.  Our team D is just gone, but Holtby sucked all game.  Holtby owns more of this loss because it's ultimately HIS job to stop the puck - regardless of whether he gets any help or not.
Say the Caps win in OT instead of the other way round - Caps get a win, but Holtby still had a BAD game.  Both goaltenders did.

I hope Ovi gets 50+ goals this year.  I think he deserves it.  His game has been better this year, and not just about scoring goals.  Not looking like he's going to get a chance to have a good playoff.

Man I hope this team is just coasting toward the break, and they actually come back afterward, but this looks/feels like much more.

Toronto is going to shred them.  But maybe that would be better than stringing one whole win together so they can feel good going to the break.

Carlson and Holtby:  All-Stars.     :lmao:

What an unbelievably embarrassing streak for this team.  7 to the Preds, 8 to the Hawks, and 7 more to the Sharks.  WTF is this coaching staff telling these guys to get ready for games?
Probably:  “Pad your stats boys, ownership wants high scoring close games and will pay for high stats”

You may be right - having him out there to try for an empty netter may be playing the probabilities ..... when there’s time left on the clock.

The point I apparently ineloquently was making was that having him out there for over 2 minutes and standing 15-20 feet from the goal as the clock runs out and Kane is left unguarded in front of the net for a tap-in tieing goal is not playing the probabilities.  Any other LW on the Capitals not named Ovechkin is next to Holtby more worried about guarding the net than getting an empty netter.

We’ve been spoiled.  We’ve watched the greatest goal scorer of our generation, maybe of all time, for over a decade.  And yes, it’s been entertaining.   But nothing comes close to the entertainment value of winning a Cup.   I could care less how many goals Ovie or any Cap has so long as we win.  An OT game, even one with 13 goals and 2 hat tricks that we lose due to lack of effort, lack of coaching, and lack of discipline is less entertaining than a 1-0 win ..... at least to me.   I understand others may see it differently.

Make no mistake, Monumentals top priority is 700 and 800.  Winning a cup just makes it easier for them to be more obvious about it

so how many goals is Dylan responsible for now with his blue line turnovers?
