I would say boo, because I like him. But he wasn’t getting ice time so hopefully this will be an opportunity for him to get a fresh start.

That’s a bad move IMO, he might have splinters in his ass this season but the Caps are going to need him next season.

That also tells me the Caps are going to keep that abysmal Carlson contract.

Horrible move.  Don't understand why they didn't give him a chance.  I am afraid they are going to compound the mistake and give up a first round pick for some rental guy.  This team won't win the Cup this year and even if they did, this year is a joke.  Let's not doom ourselves to a 5 year rebuild.

I agree that trading Seigs was a mistake. A very young defenceman that is very responsible defensively.  Those types of guys are hard to find.
Our youngest dman now is TVR at 29. Of the 6 that are playing Orlov is our youngest also at 29. I think he is one day older than TVR.
I know Seigs has been riding the bench but with the way our dcore has played he should have been in the lineup.

Makes no sense to me either. He is 23. All the other defencemen are fairly old.
We haven't been developing many young players.
But we stick with Vrana even though they have issues with him every year.

I agree, it makes no sense -- on the surface.  But let me speculate on why it happened.

(1)  The expansion draft.  EVERYTHING in personnel moves this year has to be evaluated in terms of that.  Siegs was draft-eligible so the team had to protect him or potentially lose him.  And wouldn't a young, cheap, solid defender be just what an expansion team might be looking for?  I suspect the organization has 3 other defensemen that they want to protect and didn't want to lose this particular asset for nothing.

(2)  Fehevary is sitting down there in Hershey, and maybe the organization wanted to keep him stashed this year and bring him up next year.  Like a lot of prospects, his development may be retarded a bit by COVID.  But I suspect, even under those circumstances, he may be higher on the depth chart than Siegs, especially in the mind of Laviolette, who likes mobile defensemen.

(3)  Alexeyev is now sitting in Hershey under COVID quarantine protocol, but he has already played 55 games plus 9 playoff games in the KHL this season.  The Caps may know more about his development than Fehevary's this year -- I have to believe someone associated with the organization was keeping a careful eye on him in Russia.  Maybe the Caps see the need to have room for both him AND Fehevary on the roster next season.  And he IS a clone of Siegs, but with more mobility.

BlackIce - you make really good points.  I think you are right about the expansion draft concerns.  I also love Fehrvary and I think they do to - hopefully he is not eligible for the expansion draft?

I just hope they don't do something stupid today and give up a lot for a rental.

Expansion draft sux. We're gonna lose a defenseman again, Im sure. Wish they'd leave Orlov or Carlson exposed, but I doubt they will. They need Carlson for his PP QB skills. Orlov has been playing good this year, but he's been in the "system" so it's unlikely they leave him open. Dillon or more likely Jensen will probably get took. (Does Seattle have a coach yet? His "system" will probably decide which D they take.)

Bummer dude.  I really like Seigs.  Black Ice make good points and better to get something for him than nothing, but Hell, I'd protect Seigs and leave Orlov and Jensen exposed.  (you can only lose a total of 1 player so...)
Protect DIllon, Seigs, Carlson (if you want to keep him)  Doubt Seattle would select old Shulz, but maybe.
