It'd be very interesting to see how many people in the organization want McMicheal, Sheary, Pilon, or Axel up here to challenge for roster spots, particularly the spots of the lazy, under performing, & low bench pressing

Lavi doing things right...

Caps came alive once they juggled the lines.

A win is a win.    Well done Anderson.

We could use Beagle in the faceoff dot. But he doesn't bring much else.
That's all we need him for. Get him for a 4th round pick and have Vancouver eat his salary for the rest of the year.

I'm not sure how much juggling the lines changed things. We created most of our offense on the PP.
At even strength most of our chances came off shots from the point. It wasn't like one particular line gelled very well. All 4 lines were decent the last 2 periods.

Funny but true. Bad thing is that Holtby is in a worse situation in Vancouver than he was here. That team sucks defensively.

Maybe so. Not trying to be argumentative but

Weren’t three of the goals PPG?  So not sure how much line juggling translates in PP goals but they certainly seemed to  pick up their play in the second half of the game.
Moving Panik to Backy’s line is a waste of Backy’s passing...cause stone hands Panik struggles to bury the puck. He has certainly worked harder this year and it shows but it doesn’t change he will never be a touch guy.
If you have guys underperforming (ahem...Kuzy, Vranna) then sit them for 2-3 games and let McMichael and others have a shot (on a scoring line)
Bringing young guns up to get ice time on the fourth lines never interested me....let them play their game.
We HAVE some very hard working and effective 3/4 line guys.

Anyway...not really knocking mixing up the lines but did any of those lines actually produce a goal?

Sheary already has a spot. Not sure if the other guys are ready.  Our forward prospects don't look very good.

If they did give McMichael a shot, he needs to play in the top 6. He just isn't a bottom 6 player. And like you said,  bump Vrana or Kuzy.

There may be an injury at that point. Could move dowd to the wing as well.

Well that was a nice piece of tape I watched! Line changes definitely sparked them. They pretty much dominated from the 2nd period on.. Nice that the PP clicked, but playing in the other end of the ice is what spawns those opportunities.

My bad, I meant Leason or Sutter REPLACING Sheary, or Keller, or Spooge, or Panik.

At this point, being <22, 6'4, 225+ fighting for a spot, will provide something overpaid, smaller, weaker & lazier vets wont or cant.

And yes, Im sure some of the organization doesn't think theyre ready, & this seasons 2-way/taxi squad  call-up is half a mystery, but right now a lot of the "vets" dont look like theyre ready either

In that case, bump Sheary & move Keller to wing.

Doubt GMBetaMale would do that even if the Canucks would

Do whatever it takes!  Two first rounders and throw in Backstrom!! Put Beagle in with Ovi and watch that scoring machine light fire!!!!

I love Beags, but I wouldn't bring him back now. I don't think he's the type that has the genes that lets him play well until the age of 35, and he is now 35

Sorry folks.  I love Jay Beagle and his effort and so on and his history with the team, but at age 34 he's not worth 3 mil/year TO A VERY CASH STRAPPED TEAM as a 4th line Center just to win some faceoffs.  At best he could take maybe 1/3 of the teams total draws and win maybe 58% of those?.  That's a TEAM face off percentage improvement of maybe 2-3% best case.  I know it's important and a undervalued skill, and we know he's a great guy and a good PK guy and such, but Dowd at $750k is basically the same guy for 1/4 the cost (minus some of the faceoff skill).  And Dowd is 4-5 years younger.  We have enough 3rd/4th line type PK guys.  I am using Dowd as comparison because he is the 4C

SO I looked it up...

Dowd's FO % is right around 52.8% this year
Jay Beagle is a beast in the circle at 57.8%
That's a 5% increase for one player who will take likely less than 1/3 of the teams draws.  That's a team's Faceoff % net increase of like 1.7%

That's not worth adding $2.25 million to this team.  (Dowd is a flat out bargain at $750k per year)

Now if you want to trade Hags at 2.75 mill and talk VC into keeping $250k of Beags Salary then okay.  But then you still have basically two 4C guys.  I guess Dowd could play wing or you bring in one of the other guys (waiting in the wings) :snicker: .

But you still have to manage the salary problem.

Carlson's was even strength I think.  Yeah, I don't know if it was in game results or what but this from RMNB I found interesting.

"....The player that played the least on the entire team at five-on-five was Evgeny Kuznetsov (10:31). I feel like it’s becoming noticeable that Peter Laviolette doesn’t exactly trust Kuzy too much in close games......"

But, we are really only seeing the squad together as a whole for the 4th or 5th game (and no Sammy) so I think kinks need some working out still.

I don't care about Oates anymore!
