The Caps had no answer to the Rags forecheck, for the entire game. Caps are lucky they only gave up 4 goals, thanks largely to Vanecek

They don't have an answer for ANYONES forecheck.. Our defense is weak. Feels like they spend 80% of the game in their own zone.

Once NYR went into lockdown mode, we were done.

We also have a problem with, the only guys who can forecheck can't score and the guys who can score can't/won't forecheck. If it's not a transition goal or a rare faceoff win/goal, we're basically praying for softies and weird bounces.

yea, this team is still in training camp mode IMO, new coach, new system, with replacements because they've got injury problems right now.

when the team plays like they did last night I don't watch any post game, it's not worth the aggravation

He meant Flyers.

Flyers are going to pound us if we play like we did last game...or 2.

Shittsburgh has 1 regulation win this season.

Im not sure what the problem with the defense is. It's not one particular player but I do think alot of the problem in the dzone is that quite often our forwards are getting caught puck watching.
We play alot of man to man defense. Not sure I care for it too much. When an opposing player like Panarin decides to go for a skate around the offensive zone I don't really want Carlson or Chara chasing him around.
As for the forecheck. I agree we are having some problems there. The Dowd line for checks well but like you said zero touch. Oshie is a decent forecheck but he is playing the center position right now. He is definitely better as a winger.
Wilson is hands down our best on the forecheck. Alot of defenseman bail out when Wilson is coming. He  creates alot of chaos out there. Wish we had a couple more guys like him.

Much needs to be attributed to back-to-back fucked up seasons/preseasons, new coaching staff/system changes, injuries/Covid protocol, etc, the lack of intensity, familiarity etc.,
is glaring not only with the Caps, but league wide. (Hell im surprised there weren't the normal amount  of in game rule changes).

That being said, GMBetaMale proved me wrong with a near overhaul of The D,(including no puckmovers thank Christ), if you look at the forwards be brought in/up, . . . same ol Beta Male.

Carr, Pinho, Sargb, Sproong. . . there isnt a forchecking, physical, defensivive one amongst them.  At best maybe an adequate two-way forward.

Its pretty unlikely that theyll be much improvement going forward.

I maybe the biggest GMBetaMale here, but Im giving a mulligan for this year due to the lunacy.

That sure as shit will go away if theres the course correction doesnt continue.

But I agree  on Wilson.  Right now I say hes best (most complete) player in the league. He does everything, dominates the other team physically, having to plan for him on offense, he can shut down anyone, plays PK,PP, 3-3, the only thing he doesnt dominate on is shoot-outs (  :lmao: who the fuck cares about shootouts).

The only thing that could make him even better is for him to develop and be as effective playing LW and C too, but theres time

We were doing fine.  Pretty well actually, untill the Ruskies came back.
Jus' sayin'.............
We didn't get the laziness back, or the complacency back tll them.  It's an attiitude.  A pervadng culture.  A culture we've been trying to get rid of for YEARS!

Now I understand Ovi.  Of course I do.  And I love him with all my heart, but fuck me sidewys he purveys the sense of entitlement and priivilage that the rest of his mates,  just have not  earned.

I have been hugely impressed wth the fellas that took up the slack whlst those diivas were sidelined.  I really enjoyed the basiic and pure hockey they played.
And it worked.

I feel us missing Shultz has been a huge loss with the way the D is set up. It's kinda thrown our pairings out of whack. Lavi seems to be a lot like Mike Babcock in his thinking that every paring needs to be one right and one left handed dman. This man to man system worked well in Nashville because of how mobile their top four D are. Ours not so much.

A hybrid system I guess if lavi is set on man to man. You can't have chara getting a man and having to chase him around the defensive zone. Man to man systems lead to goals like lindgrin's on Thursday night. A lot of stick checking when guys are out of position because a dman is chasing. Once one guy is beat. It's hard for other players to react and know when to cover for that so called beating dman. I prefer a zone coverage myself. I feel that's what works best against high octane offences like the old caps were and we always got shut down in the playoffs against the rangers by that system.

I'm talking about defending against teams with firepower like the old caps.
Oshie is much better on the wing. That weakness up the middle is killing us as well
