I still think there is too much stink made over age as a professional athlete. This isn't the 1980s where football players got drunk every night. These guys have been eating healthy and on 12 month fitness regimes since they were in grade school. It used to be unheard of for a guy to be a top 6 player after the age of 34, now it's happening with boring regularity.

Agree for the most part about the age, and some guys are unusual specimens regardless (Nolan Ryan, Messier, etc)

but....

Do the Caps need him and how do they afford him?

Kempney is a question mark as to what level he will return at and Shultz has always had some injury issue, but unless the Caps move a D man....

And I'd like to see some younger guys actually get some playing time to really develop.  Fever for one....he seems ready/worthy to play (especially for a cap-strapped team)

the Caps do need to bolster the D. Actual D, not another winger that plays on the blue line. They also need one with speed. If Chara was a bit quicker on his feet I'd keep him, but he never really was.

The development of guys in Hershey is at least a year behind because of the past 16 months so I'm not sure anyone down there is ready just yet. But do agree they need some ice time in the big show reguardless, and they haven't been getting that.

The Caps need to dump salary to do anything. They also need to wait until after the Seattle draft to see who gets picked, which technically they have to anyway.

ArJunaZ:
“The nature of psychological compulsion is such that those who act under constraint remain under the impression that they are acting on their own initiative. The victim of mind-manipulation does not know that he is a victim. To him the walls of his prison are invisible, and he believes himself to be free. That he is not free is apparent only to other people. His servitude is strictly objective.”    —Aldous Huxley
