and NASCRAP just eliminated most of the pit strategy by going to the spindle mount lug nut. What takes the longest is fuel, if they gotta wait for the fuel to load they may as well just change all 4 tires.

They only started caring about lug nuts/tight a few years ago. Far as I know this is the first case of someone being disqualified.. 1 loose = 10K$ fine, 2 = fine + crew chief suspended next race. 3+ = disqualification.

2 tire stops are pretty rare these days anyway. They'll still have problems getting that spindle on w/o cross threading it. Indy and F1 make what, 2 stops a race, max? They'll be pitting over 10x at Darlington and other places. For sure will be a shit show, at least for a while.. lol

F1 made their races one load of fuel and a mandatory 2 tire change, as I recall the reasoning was to help limit costs in an absurdly expensive sport

Mickstix:
F1 full fuel load was for safety. The mandatory stop is for 4 tires, were they must change compound from what they started the race on. (Same with Indy, but they still fuel the cars during stops.) Can't imagine any of it was for money savings as they still use 6 or 7 sets of tires from practice through qualifying.

Nascar claims they're going to the single spindle/lug because their new 18" wheel isn't safe to run with lug nuts? They're barreling head first toward a GT/IMSA style car. Rear diffusers, single lugs, etc..  :-( Pretty sure teams in nascar are not going to be allowed to "build" their own cars any more either. They'll put them together, using parts from a nascar sourced supplier.  :clown: :poop: :-\

could've said that better, F1 mandates they change all 4 tires twice during the race. Each team must use 3 sets of tires and each set is a different softness. F1 has mandated 5 different compounds of tire softness, plus 2 more for rain. The tire supplier, Pirelli, only brings 3 compounds of the slicks to each track, per the rules. Which 3 compounds depends on each track based on tire wear. Each race is one load of fuel. As I understand it, this was all done in an effort to control costs. F1 may have mentioned safety as one of the excuses to not refuel during a race. But it makes no sense as they are the only top racing class to not refuel during a race, and refueling incidents on pit road have become rare.

They only have to stop once. Hamilton finished 2nd last week on 1 stop. Pretty sure Vettle and Perez only stopped once to. Max pitted twice and passed Hamilton with 1 lap to go for the W.
