I didn't read the story, but heard he waived his NTC to make it happen. So, maybe -he- wanted out?

Vancouver is making a bunch of moves.  Not surprised about Holtby - he had a shit year last year.

Tyler Johnson traded from Tampa to Chicago (what fun for him) in exchange for Brent Seabrook.  Which, after reading the article says Seabrook's playing days are over after several hip surgeries.
So what exactly is the purpose of a trade for a guy who has announced his playing days are done?  I realize Tampa just needs to shed salary after winning the cup (being $17mil OVER the cap), but what is the point of acquiring a guy who won't ever play again?

Free agency starts today, no?  That should be interesting.  With a flat cap players are going to have to bite the bullet a bit with their expectations.

Fluery traded to Chicago - sounds like a surprise to him.  (Maybe he can sulk with Tyler Johnson).  Look at the bright side...maybe Chicago is a nice town to live in.

From what I gather, it lets them circumvent the cap rules AGAIN via the LTIR loophole. Apparently you can go -OVER- the cap as much as the players salary. So they get to go 8+ million over, with the acquisition of Seabrook. And they removed initial cap by whatever they saved moving Johnson. All legal via the (gm/owner approved) CBA. Just need an owner with a checkbook and a gm who doesn't mind using the grey areas of the rules.. :-\  I guess once the playoffs start you can bring them off LTIR (Kucherov was it, last year?) and they can actually play.. But they "think" Seabrook will "probably" retire..
