Hockey movies
« on: Friday March 13, 2020, 11:40:27 AM Eastern »
since we don't have any live hockey, what's everyone's top 10 hockey movies? Are there even 10?

I'd go with;
1: Miracle(2004)
2: Slap Shot(1977)
3: Youngblood(1986)
4: The Rocket(2005)
5: Goon(2011)
6: Mystery, Alaska(1999)
7: Mr Hockey: The Gordie Howe story(2013)
8: Ice Guardians(2016) , technically it's a documentary, and highly recommend to DC
9: The Cutting Edge(1992), technically not a hockey movie, but it's where "toe pick" comes from
10: Happy Gilmore(1996)

I watched Miracle last night.  Tonight I think I will watch replay of Nats game 7 victory over the Astros.  Fortunately I have a lot of DVD’s of old Caps games.  At some point I will watch the run to the Stanley Cup in 2018.

Nice!!
Slap Short and Miracle can be interchangeable, ones the best fiction and the other is the best historical.

I’d replace Cutting Edge with either Tough Guy or The Russian Five.

Though Tough Guy is about one of my favorite players of all time, I’d have to lean towards The Russian Five as it has larger affect on the sport as it details how four Hall Of Famers, (and one hell of a player),   where snuck out of Russia into The US.  Which started the fall or Russia’s International dominance and legends entering the NHL.

It’s really a must watch for any hockey fan, (even if they hate The Wings )

Slapshot is a classic. I have to watch it at least once every season. I already watched it this season but I may have to watch it again.

I've never seen Slap Shot, I've seen clips but haven't seen it.  Maybe that's next for movie night.

. . .
Dude, . . .i have seen it more times I can remember and there are are still scenes I have to back up and rewatch each time because, though I can recite them word for word, cause I STILL, laugh so hard I can’t make it through then.   If you two saw it last night, you’ll watch about four times before Tuesday.
If you haven’t, stop what you’re doing, don’t watch trailers or clips, get it from iTunes prime etc., it’s $15 at the most. You probably can’t get it for free anymore, but it’s a MUST BUY!

I did find that you can get On Demand if you have STARZ

The Russian Five is on NBCSports Tues at 8.   I only pray they don’t have Penis McGuire doing commentary

And HELL YEAH, the Red Army doc is right there with it.  It’s fuckin awesome!

I watched this one, yesterday, interesting. I remember that moment when I learn about the limo crash on the news. It was upsetting.

Well, this is TV. . .but it’s show about the 5,000 people in Letterkenny Canada,  and their problems.  There’s a LOT of hockey players, references and scenes,  but more importantly it’s FUCKIN HYSTERICAL!!!  It may take an episode or two to catch on, but if ya like beer, fighting, hockey, babes, more beer, puppies, HOT BABES, quick humor and laughin your ass off, it’s a must watch!!   It’s a on Hulu, but Hulu sucks so I just buy every season on iTunes cause it’s cheaper than getting Hulu.

Here’s a sample, from the last season. The background is a woman’s team bet they could beat a men’s team 😇. Oh and you never see Shorsys face in the series

I watched a few episodes. Off the wall type of humor. Kind of like Trailer Park Boys humor.

I've always wondered how they came up with the name Letterkenny.

Letterkenny is pretty good, I have to be in the mood to watch it.
Shorsey chirping from the toilet always makes me laugh, or the 2 hockey guys talking about the same thing using different lingo.

I will admits, for aboot the first three shows, I was for the most parts the in the same place you was, but by aboot the fourth, I was laughing my ass off as I gots on the same page, then went back through and watched those three again and loved em.

I advise just at Episode One and keep goin,  it’s smart, fast, witty, redneck/jock beer drinkin humor at its finest!

Unfortunately it’s only on Hulu and iTunes.    I’d be a hell of a lot easier if it was on Prime!  Hulu is running a free trail, so you could just get it for a month then cancel
