it was complete garbage, the defense has to give the goalie some support, and tonight was one Carlson’s worst games, along with the rest of the team. I’ve seen just about every great goalie get pasted like that when they get absolutely zero support from the rest of the team. And I think tonight was the first time I’ve seen Reirdon actually yell at the team, it was during that time out early in the 2nd.

I thought this was Carlsons worst game of the season. He and Kempny were bad.

Looked at replays, I think 4, 5, 6 he should have gotten.
4 - The floater from the blue line that was deflected in. Holts was just leaky there.
5 - Turnover that led to a wrist shot from the Ovi spot. A good glove hand should have had that.
6 - The reason why I thought 6 he had a chance on was because the guy who tipped it WASN'T the guy on the far side of the net, he was the guy on the short side, and that tip was saveable with good positioning IMO.
The breakaway (#3), yeah I can see what you're saying about Holts being too passive there. That said, I generally don't expect goalies to save clean breakaways like that all the time so that's one I can see how he could have had that but also could give him a pass on. The three one timers I think were just too high danger to stop.
4 5 6 he should have had, and if he could have stopped 1 from the other 4 goals, I'd consider that a good effort on Holtby's part (we'd still lose though).

I feel you guys are being too hard on Holtby. Obviously not his best game but none of the 7 goals were soft. I think it's time to stop throwing Holtby under the bus. Let's face the facts. This team is very weak defensively and we might be the worst team at managing the puck. I have never seen a team turn the puck over so often.
Not all of the problem is on the defense. Our forwards cheat by leaving the zone early not giving our defencemen anyone to pass to. Teams are picking off the stretch pass at a high rate because they know it is coming.
This team is not as good as our record indicates.

Were 2, 6, and 7 the 2 one-timers (one cross crease and the other from behind the net) and the breakaway? Because if so I agree. There were a couple of deflection goals and a couple of wrist shot goals where I felt like a GOOD goalie could get some of them.
Again, LOSS isn't on Holts, but a good goalie doesn't give up a touchdown. A good goalie keeps the game within reach in case we want to mount a heroic comeback.
EDIT:

The remaining four "tougher" goals were the 3 one-timers from close up and the breakaway goal. I still think a goalie who is zoned in could get at least one of those, but those are some goals that admittedly I wouldn't have expected Holts to get. The other three though? Could have had them. Could have been a 4-2 or 3-2 game.

This reminded me of the game The Wings put 7 on Patrick Roy, in his infamous “last game in Montreal”. All 19 players for Montreal flat out quit, including Roy.
His whole career he’s bailed out this shitty, pussy, lazy, move the puck to the other team, DCorps, particularly the biggest joke of a Norris candidate ever, making the saves you mentioned and keeping the all to frequent efforts to 3-2 games or even wins to get Presidents trophies.
But, there’s reality no need to worry for now. Ovie will crack 700 this year and may even hit 60 for the season, and “we’ll have a chance in the playoffs” and then Holtby won’t be a Cap anymore. But when he goes to a team we play against in the playoffs, that doesn’t have players watch breakaways from 2feet away and clears a net, our chances of winning that series will go to about zero. Then we can blame Sammy for losing a game 3-0

Agree 100%. I wish Holts would of ripped Reirdon a new one and hope he went off, particularly on our faux-Norris candidate, in the locker room.
It’s all but certain he won’t be back next year, but for his sake, he needs to go full Patrick Roy by blowing up and refusing to play until traded. This would give this organization a long overdue wake up call
