I'd like to see the NHL front office explain their rationale for why 3 games is the right amount of suspension!!


It would probably go like, "Well, 4 games was too many, 2 was too few."


What is the point here?  If they had suspended him, say, for 30 games, at least the NHL could say "we want to take a stand against illegal drug use, and this should send a message" (potentially killing the Caps' 2019/2020 season before it starts.)  But what are they saying by giving him 3 games, as opposed to, say, zero?  We want to make Kuzy and the Caps pay a wee bit, but not too much?  Why is it important that they are punished a wee bit?

It’s just another NHL PR stunt.  If they wanted to give him more they wouldn’t have a leg to stand on in appeals, players union,  or must public opinion as it wasn’t an NHL test

They’d have to sell it  under one of the many the “conduct detrimental to the league” bullshit clauses they have.

Now what would hang been better is if the Caps sat him for 5-7 themselves, as it is their problem more than the NHL.  But, that’s hard to do when your overpaying a one-way player 7.5 and don’t have the backbone to stand up to players.

Black makes a good point about, “What’s the point”, concerning the 3-day NHL suspension!


We obviously can’t know if there was any consulting conversation between Bettman/NHL, and Leonsis/GMBM/Caps management, prior to the issuing of Kuzy’s suspension.


What I would love to have seen was Leonsis or GMBM, take a stronger, proactive, position, seeking out the NHL uppers, asking them to stand down, and allow the CAPS organization to handle the situation internally, so as to send a more PERSONAL message, to Kuzy, from the TEAM, and management that he actually PLAYS FOR!!


Then, a straight, no drama, sit down, private meeting with Kuzy, in front of GMBM, and Rierdon, ONLY!
They are short on words, and make it very clear, that they are NOT open to Kuzy’s comments, with the exception, solely, of his agreement with their disciplinary action.


That action would simply be, Kuzy, being made an intentional, healthy scratch, for the first 5-8 games!!
Immediately after the meeting, GMBM makes a short statement to the media, telling them about the disciplinary action taken, Kuzy’s agreement with it, AND, (most importantly), tells the media there will be NO further discussion about it, with the press, and that Kuzy will not be made available for ANY media comment, until AFTER Dec. 31st 2019!!


Talk about havin some REAL, and badly NEEDED, management BALLS!!
THAT... would be how to send a new message to not only Kuzy, but the rest of the team, as well, that management has finally GROWN A PAIR, and done something meaningful, respectful, and appropriate to the situation!!!👌👌

Rush - excellent post. I wish I had thought of that.  Proactive management is now non-existent.  Hopefully, Kuzy will get his act together and it won't be a recurring problem, but that seems unlikely.
