I don’t know why Trotz does not put Beagle out to take the faceoff when we have pulled the goalie. He had Backstrom take it and he lost is cleanly. Then they have another face off 10 seconds later and he keeps Backstrom out who loses it again and they score. Seems pretty basic.

   Well Beagle lost more faceoffs than he won tonight. He was even worse last game. Backstrom was our best center on faceoffs tonight.

AND the one Carlson had, just a few nites ago, in our defensive zone, Locker played it down, very casually, saying, no problem, this happens from time to time!

His high assist total is appreciable, in its own right, but it has a HUGE CAVEAT!! It’s not like any of Carly’s assists are from some kind of spectacular pass, or having some above average instinct on a play where he has some great anticipation of something!! ANYONE with half a hockey brain can see this, routinely played out in almost every game the caps play!
He deserves no title better than “He is present on the ice”, when he dishes the puck off,  to three or four of some of the highest octane offensive players in the league in the last few seasons!
I’ll be the first to admit that the OVER-EXAGGERATED media hype he gets, SO UNDESERVEDLY, does drive my dislike of him, even higher!! You’ll RARELY, very RARELY, hear any specific media talk about his defensive play!! I said SPECIFIC, as in detailed commentary. Because there’s NOTHING THERE, that would support the general terms they use that he’s a “good defenseman”! They immediately go to his POINTS total!!! That says it all, for me!! And here’s my Carly acronym, on getting the Norris trophy...😂😂

Agreed . . . Nicks good but nowhere near the elite class year after year Beagle is in, if not leads.


But on the other hand, as a “first liner”, “all star”, “jersey selling super star”, making near 10, mil a year    you HAVE TO WIN those when your taking crucial face offs  instead of an elite face off guy. 


Now naybe Nick has better numbers against the opponent, maybe Beagle had an off night or minor injury . .   we don’t know.  But if you’re standing in for one of the best in the league. and the “1st Line” high dollar center, and almost 10yr vet,  failing twice is simply not an option nor forgiven

So what was the penalty everyone was talking about, that Ovie should of known about? Just from reading it sounds like someone from the bench threw him a stick or something?  Is that the same one that should of been blown dead?

He’s been one of the best in the league the past few years.


The biggest challenge and increase of bad games like these is not only the “rule of the year” change to the face offs, but to the lack of depth of two way forwards that can take faceoffs.


In the past we had Brouwer, Fehr (eventually),Ward, and others along with Nick who could take, win, get tossed back up, force match up changes etc.  This year, the most depth we have is Willie, who while I’m a big Wilson supporter, is probably a couple years away from the responsibility Beagle has.


With that being said, it just points to Beagles heavy workload with zero room for errors or off nights

By heavy workload I assume you are talking about his defensive responsibilities. I doubt there is another player in the league that starts in the defensive zone as often as Beagle does. Definitely the highest defensive zone start on the Caps. I think Stephenson is 2nd highest on the Caps. Trotz must have faith in him.

well, at the time I was listening on the radio so that's information I got. Apparently Willy broke a stick while close to the bench, so OV tossed one over the boards. Technically handing one over is ok but not tossing one. There were also too many men on the ice at the same time, so the zebras could've called that instead. But they chose to pull an obscure rule out that it appears no one has seen called in years, that would be what caused the confusion
