Ovi isn't hitting 50 this year. Normally you'd think that with 6 games left he should easily score 2 or more goals. But nope, not this year. Here's why:


1) 4 of the next 6 games are against opponents who are defensively solid (and solid on the PK). Canes, Lightning, and Isles.


2) Ovi did not score against the Flyers, who are the worst defensive and PK team out of the 7 games he had left before today. Simply put, his best chance was today and he blew it.


3) Ovi himself apparently doesn't give a shit with that stupid passing play and giving up the ENG


4) The team is in glide mode. No one is trying hard at all.


5) The PP blows and Carlson can't put the fucking puck in Ovi's wheelhouse.




He has a chance to win the RR, but mostly if Draisaitl and Kane stay cold. But yeah Ovi ain't hitting 50, not at this rate, not unless some magical turnaround happens. But absolutely nothing has convinced me that a turnaround will happen.

Meh probably get two in 6 games, but your damn right about the remains games:  the two wild card teams twice, the Pres Trophy winners who hate us, and an FLA team who though almost certainly will be eliminated by then and assuredly love to upset the Champs in one of their last home games.


None of these are gonna be easy, or just another game.

Boys turned it up the last 15.. Refs were embarrassingly bad again today. And Ovie apparently doesn't care about 50 goals so the team should take note and stop worrying about feeding him the puck at all cost on the PP..

Yes!  This team needs more guys that want to pass and therefore be known as a great "team guy".  If we coached out guys to go down on a 2 on 1 and fake the pass then shoot, our scoring percentage would be a lot higher.  Kuzy would have 15 more goals this year if he got aggressive and shot the puck!

Well on the bright side....Holtby WAS sharp.  He looked good and to be in what will hopefully turnout to be his playoff form.


Can't believe Ovi passed up EVEN an attempt at SHOOTING at an ENG.  WTF was that about?  Since when does he not take the opportunity to shoot...even an IFFY chance?


I'll take the win....deserved or not.  We probably deserved to win the last one vs Tampa, but didn't.  Well, "deserved" is not the right term, but we certainly outplayed Tampa last game.


Tuesday and Thursday vs Carolina should be interesting.  Isles play Columbus tomorrow also.  Should be a tense night for the standings.

We all know how Ovie is -- has been throughout his career.  There are times, for a few games or several games, where he quiets down.  And then the next thing you know, he finds it again and has 7 goals in 5 games, or something.   


Maybe he WON'T score the last 6 games of the season, or maybe he'll go off again and sail past 50 goals.  Or something in between.  I haven't a clue about what it will be, and neither does anyone else.  Whatever occurs regarding Ovie's individual stats, the primary objective is to get into the playoffs and be ready to play as well as possible starting April 10.


I have this nagging thought regarding how the Caps finish in the Division relative to the other teams.  The Division race is so exceedingly close that it is impossible to guess how the standings among the top 4 teams might end up.  And this closeness suggests that any of the first and second round series is likely to be close to a 50/50 proposition.  Given Malkin's injury, is this a year when it might be best if the Caps, who ALWAYS seem to have to go through the Pens at some point, play them in round 1?

Yea, personally, I couldn't care less who wins the rocket or how many goals Ovi scores. If he'd never done it, sure, but he has many times so.. Playoffs!!

What's great is we are fired up about having 6 or 7 20 goal guys  -- and that does point to depth -- but TBL will have 3 40 goal guys.  In the new NHL that is just insane!

It’s much like the “Steroid Era” in baseball.  The rule changes and the way game is called decreases the integrity of offensive stats the same way as a scrawny center fielder good for 20hrs a year growing three hat sizes in mid 30s and hitting 70 and breaking the all time HR record
