Oddly, and I'm surprised by this, he's a +6.  While his center is a -8 and the POS on the other wing is a -5.
He started the season on Ovies line and DSP took some of D roles.

It's still may be day to day injuries, which is not so bad. Both should get healthy.

Back from the game.

Unlike what the Yahoo headline claims, Ovie did NOT lead the Caps to victory today.  Holtby and Wilson did.

Wilson is the best forward on the team right now.  Period.  It was he that finally got the team awake in the 2nd period when he overtook a guy down the ice to prevent an icing.  Then of course he was the first one to shoot where I wanted the puck to go, high to Bernier's stick side.  And I was just amazed with his passing and puck placement all game.  It's like everything he touches turns to gold at this point.

Holtby stopped 3 breakaways late in the 2nd period. The defense really hung him out to dry.  That was what really kept the game in hand.

The hero on Kempny's goal was DSP with a perfect screen.  Bernier never saw the shot -- he never moved a muscle.

Ovie for some reason was shooting 5 hole on Bernier the entire game.  He finally got one to go for the 3rd goal.

This game sort of had the feel, after the Caps got going, that they were going to do whatever was needed to win this game, and if they don't have anything against the Rangers tomorrow so be it.

and probably 40 goals against 🤣🤣
In all honesty Connolly hasn't been as bad defensively this season. Although it might be an illusion based on the fact that Eller and Burakovsky have been so bad that its making Connolly look like a selke contender.

Apparently Rierden does not agree with your assessment as he had both Eller and Burakovsky out there at the end of the game but Connolly was not with them.

I didnt say Connolly was a stud defensively. Not sure why Burakovsky was in the ice. That surprised me. He has been playing a bit better so maybe Reirden was rewarding him.
As for Eller, they need a center out there. Backstrom had played most of the final 5 mins of that game with Wilson and Ovi. We dont really have another shutdown center after Backstrom.

There was ab Empty Net with a two goal lead, they where out there to stat-pad, not for their “elite defensive prowess”

I agree about trying to pad their stats. They took several shots at the empty net from our end of the ice. Some of this attempts were unnecessary. They didnt have to ice the puck as often as they did.
