Caps acquire Jaskin
« on: Tuesday October 02, 2018, 05:49:26 PM Eastern »
in anticipation that Wilson is facing a lengthy suspension the Caps claimed Dimitij Jaskin who the Blues put on waivers.  He is suppose to be a defensive minded forward who plays a physical style of hockey.  Last season he had 207 hits which was the 18th most in the league.  Although he was born in Russia it appears that he grew up in the Czech Republic as he played junior hockey there and played for the Czech Republic in international tournaments.  This could be another shrewd move by BMac.

Hey 4 Caps,
I just asked that question in the other thread...wondering if this was the case - temp fill in for the impending Willy suspension. (hate when my Willy is on suspension).
I don't know thing one about Jaskin, but read the blurb about him and wondered

Claiming a player off waivers from a team that didn’t make the playoffs isn’t “shrewd” by any stretch of the imagination.  “As the video clearly shows”, thinking he’d be any kind of replacement for Willie is just ridiculous.

Not to often do you hear “it’s fortunate that he went down” after ab NHL fight

I don't think anyone was implying Jaskin would be a replacement for Wilson, but rather a part time fill in for some toughness.
I thought you, of all folks, would appreciate the Caps trying to add a little toughness during Willy's absence.

i would love me to, but Jaskins just doesn’t count as toughness by a long shot.

I tend to agree. He hits but he isnt scaring anyone. To me this pickup is nothing. If they needed to bring in a physical presence while Wilson is out they could just call up LOB.

Jaskin played in a preseason game or two this yr so im sure he is in hockey shape.

I cant speak about his character as he was a rather quiet player (interviews etc)

He's basically brooks laich without the offensive ability...thats the best comparison i can make (again without the leadership qualities)

13th forward, 4th liner, depth/role player.

Was a sniper in college or minors but never translated it to the nhl.

I hope the best for the kid, but there's no room for him on this revamped blues team

Can the guy at least skate?  I mean I thought he was big and strong - was the reason they picked him up.  I realize he was grabbed off waivers, but did we need another 4th line guy?

He can play up the lineup....but not well.

Hes best suited for pk and 4th line/energy minutes.

We need more, hell any “4th liners”.  I haven’t seen much of him, but it’s unlikey he’d an upgrade to Winnick or Hendricks

this is his other NHL “fight”. . . unimpressive at best

He’d be an upgrade to Connolly or Bura as a “bottom 6” energy player, but I’d rather see Walker there (who
hi could assuredly kick his ass)

I hope you think think that was a good fight from Walker. It was a feather weight match. I wouldnt want too see him fight anyone in the NHL.

Regardless of what we want to or not, he will.  While very/too short, it'd be interesting to see his weight room numbers, it'd be a safe bet in bench reps and dead lift he'd rank pretty damn high on the team.

Hell Chris Bourque at 5'8" is one of the top scorers in the AHL and HOF pedigree, and his skill has got him into 8 NHL games, Walker has had 11.

I'd even bet he'd take most players on the Caps, hell after Willie and DSP, I'd probably bet on him. . .in fact, sad as it is,he's been the closest thing we have to an enforcer right now . . .

You would take Walker over Orpik, Oshie or Niskanen. Or even Ovechkin who isnt a fighter but he is just so damn strong.
Have to admit without Wilson in the lineup we are a very soft team.

Yeah, forgot about Nisky. . .but I doubt the others, who are not exactly technical or experienced fighters, could handle his intensity. . .it would be interesting though

Our roster is full of pussys. We should have hung on to Chaisson. Why didnt we?
