Barry Trotz

4 Caps:
I have no doubt Trotz will be the Caps coach next season.  BMac said if Trotz wants to be the coach he will be and Trotz stated that he definitely can see coming back next season.  Now it is just a matter of working out the details of the contract but it will get done.

I gave Trotz a lot of credit for what he did in previous seasons. I cut Trotz some slack early on in this season when we were sucking because I figured injuries/new players would mean the team might take some time to get their act together. However, as the season went on, even when they started pulling it together, I felt like Trotz's time was up and wanted him fired. Never would have thought in a million years that he'd get the guys the Cup.

If we get rid of Trotz, I'd only do so if we can get a top tier proven coach to replace him. Anything less than a Quenneville or a Babcock or a Laviolette type of coach and I wouldn't bother

Eh, I don't know if I want Q here. Looking at the Chicago board, they all wanted Q fired. Apparently a big reason we were able to get Kempny for relatively cheap is that Q refused to play him, so the organization didn't have really much of a clue where his skill level was at. Q has a big hard on for veteran over any young unproven players, and while I think there is a time and place for that, the NHL with where it's at, and our roster with where it's at isn't it. A big reason we won was because we gave minutes to players with chips on their shoulders who had less NHL time or were bumped around, and they showed up big. Obviously we had some rookies and Burt, but even like DSP, Eller, Kempny. These are guys that bounced around, didn't find permanent homes and had something to prove.

I don't want a coach who isn't willing to give a player a chance to show what they got. Barry Trotz should be with this team again unless he retires as far as I'm concerned. I don't know where all the drama around Reirden wanting to be head coach started. Why wouldn't he just stay here, and keep attempting to win Cups now? Granted he did leave Pitt to head here when we signed Nisky/Orpik and got Trotz. But I still think he'd be fine as an associate coach. Nonetheless I want us to keep Trotz if he's still coaching. I felt that way before the Cup win, the Cup win only solidifies it for me. He plays the type of system you need to play in order to win in the playoffs. Simple as that. He's also got a great relationship with our core, has Ovie playing some of the hardest working hockey he's ever played and puts ample focus on youth and the bottom aspects of the line up.

Letting Trotz go if he doesn't retire would be a monumental mistake. Pardon the pun there.

I'm glad I was wrong about what I saw after that Colorado game this year. But, I don't understand why it took Trotz three years to get these guys to believe in each other. I also don't think they win the Cup without some of the fresh minds that had to brought in with expansion and UFAs.

and, I can't stand the narrative that it took OV 10 years to win the Cup. He can't do it all by himself. He needs a team around him to play as a team as well.

I read this too.  Looks like I was wrong.  Sometimes it happens...  :smirk:
