I thought this series was gonna take two, maybe three goals tops to win a game.

Good news is Vegas didn't look to be all that, IMO.  Maybe they didn't bring their best game either, but the Caps didn't even play that well and this was a .....crap shoot :-).  Caps had so many break downs and turnovers and players out of position on Vegas' goals.
I really haven't watched Vegas that much, but all they hype was they were this unbeatable force.  I didn't see that last night.  Vegas is scrappy and never quit, but I think the Caps should beat this team.

To me, neither team looked like a Stanley Cup finalist last night.
Like to see the good Caps show up and this could be fun.  What the F is with the font size issue?

Pre-game "show" was awful.  Does Vegas share the arena with Medieval Times?  They should spend less time and money on this crap before the game and a little more on ice preparation.  I know its the desert, but that ice was awful.  You would think they would have A/C pretty much figured out by now.

Go Caps

oh yeah, FUCK YOU NBC and NHL.  Wilson's hit was a LITTLE late, but how about call it like it is....NOT just show the isolation on Willy homing in on him.  Marshyshit did HAVE the puck just before Willy destroyed him - but they don't show that replay but once, and in slow motion, so it appears the hit was really late, then they show the isolation about 5 fucking times.
Then you call a penalty after the fact?  What the F - that is just wrong.  If you miss it you miss it.  Quit messing with the game.

I normally do not partake or like all the ref-bashing - It is a very hard game to officiate in real time (and I hate any and all video review), but....
How about the missed call on the Carlson cross check?  Why not review that and go back and call it if you are going to review and call penalties.
They let A LOT go, and I would not have that big an issue with that non call except that it directly resulted in a goal for not only the offending team, but the very player who should have been called for the cross-check.  It lead DIRECTLY to the goal.  This changed the direction and outcome of the game.  This non-call had direct impact on the game.  That's the worst thing an officiating crew can do - is have an impact on the outcome.  A missed call is one thing, but that was not missed - it was simply not called.  You can't tell me they honestly did not see that.  It is where the F'n puck was and directly in front of the net.  That non-call led directly to that goal

Rant over.

Go Caps!  Bring your A-game and you will crush these cast-off second class scrubs

Arj can explain it better, but it can tend to get touchy on a phone.  The easy fixes I’ve found is to go to modify, then select all and set the size to 10.

The other way is to use the modify on the lower right and just remove the font code

Re-read this thread this morning while listening to sports talk radio re:  last night's game.

Found myself as irritated this morning as I was last night with 1) the pre-game circus (feel more aligned with hockey 'purists' than casual fans in this regard because one of the reasons I have come to enjoy hockey is that it been more successful at keeping Hollywood, pop culture/music/ American 'celebrities' and politics away from the sport than, for example, basketball and football), 2) talking head 'reporters' and broadcasters gushing this morning about the Renaissance festival theatrics that 'makes Vegas, Vegas', and 3)  officiating during the actual hockey game.
And not to be too sour about it, but am I the only one weary of the fairy tale Vegas story?  I get it....history making season, overachieving misfits.  Sigh.  The Capitals' story never seems to warrant as much air time as other teams, no matter what and this year, there IS a story worth telling on our side, too.  I start grinding my teeth when announcers/NBC/media describe  Washington as if they are (sorry to repeat myself), the 'other team' who just happens to be skating around on the ice at the same time that the other, favored team is playing spectacular hockey.
Maybe with Game 2, the game can just be the game.  Loved Braden Holtby doing his best to make up for defensive mistakes last night, loved TJ Oshie quietly taking lots of abuse (no calls there, either) throughout the game, loved the red-shirted fans in Vegas, and loved watching the tons of fans at the watch party in DC.
Wished we could have pushed the Knights away from our goal more often...I saw too many gray jerseys standing and waiting alone for rebounds with no defenseman pushing him away.  Wish our passes were better trying to come up the ice, too.

Hope we correct what is correctable and play angry (but smart) in Game 2.  Go CAPS!!!

I gave my thoughts above on the general problems the Caps had which were too little forecheck, inconsistent physical play and disorganization in our own end too much.  The refs you can't do anything about except complain loudly.  The cross checking on Carlson was a horrible non-call, just horrible.  The Caps had 3 pretty nice goals and one lucky one.  Here's my take on the Vegas goals:

#1 Decent shot by Colin Miller.  Holtby was screened and slightly out of position.  Stephenson made a poor play on the boards right before as he had the puck all alone and failed to clear it.  They scored right after.

#2 Lucky garbage goal.  A shot came from Holtby's right which hit the shaft of Niskanen's stick, squibbed weirdly off the backboards and went right to Karlsson.  He banked it in off Holtby.

#3 Caps running around way too much leaving Smith all alone in front.

#4 Screwed by refs.  Instead of a Caps PP, they tie the game.  Should never happen in a Stanley Cup final.  If we see more of this, I'll be convinced this is fixed so Bettman's wet dream can come true.

#5  Nice pass from the left boards to the corner of the crease.  However, Smith-Pelly failed to clear when, again, he was pretty much alone and could have skated with it.  Instead he fires it off the defenseman's legs.  No reason to be in a panic there.  One has to wonder why a pass could get all the way from the left boards and through the slot as well.  Caps seemed more intent on covering other people than seeing where the puck was.  Yet, nobody covered Nosek.

#6.  Empty netter.  However, why wasn't there an icing call just before that?  I couldn't see the puck due to standing fans but it looked like Burakovsky had to go dig it off the backboards.  More questionable officiating.
