Wow, what a game.  Certainly nice to see Protas, Ovie, and Lenny all score....much needed.  Beauvy too.  That will be good for the team I think.  Protas has been getting better looks last couple games, and Lenny has been for several, but I think both a little frustrated with lack of goals.
The refs sure seemed to get a nod from the NHL about penalties.... make sure to call EVERYTHING you can against the Caps and close your eyes on any McDavid does.
McDavid flat out bear hugged Wilson, wrapping both hands around his waste behind the Oils net - keeping him from going back up ice and no call.  Also, the 2nd Lenny goal he has a breakaway and Bouchard reaches in and from behind and spins Lenny but he recovers to score - but the Ref never raised his arm.  I just went back and watched it and that is a clear penalty, but he wasn't going to call it.  There was also some phantom offsides -  one when we had 2 guys on a break (Protas and Lenny maybe)  and the puck was dumped in clearly well in before the skaters.  I can't believe none of the tv guys said anything - they were too busy clowning or something.
Fun game to watch with all the scoring, but just made me nervous we would let them back in to that one.  They are so damn fast and so much talent.  Oils played pretty damn poorly on the D side though.  Hard to believe this team is back to back SC finalist - not usually the type team that goes deep.  They have been weak in net for years - should have a Cup by now.

Interesting lines Caps put out there - Willy, Protas, Sourdiff - got most of the work against McDavid...with Willy appearing to be the main guy on McDavid.  Thought Willy did very well - and Protus had a great game on both ends.  Sourdiff between them is a surprise to me, but they did pretty well.  Nice to see big Willy with the ENGs after getting the tough assignment.
Willy is definitely our MVP this year.  He is excellent in all parts of the game.  Saw Frank out there against McDavid quite a bit as well...a guess they figure he has the wheels.  Poor Milano is NEVER going to score another goal  - he had some great looks, hit at least 2 posts, but man the puck doesn't like him.
Oh and... I Fn HATE Eddie Olcyzk! He is the most annoying homer I've ever seen in an analyst.  At least it wasn't shittsburgh we were playing, but he is always gobbing after the stars...and he doesn't appear to like the Caps at all.  So busy running his mouth he misses what's really happening on the ice.

Lastly...what in the blue fuck are the Caps coaches thinking that when they start the 6 on 5 and we have last change we put OVIE and TVR out there against McDavid and the speedsters?  I screamed at the TV "NO NO NO NO NO NO NO...what are you doing?  I love Ovie, but no way in hell am I putting him out there against those guys.  Lose the face off and he is just dead wood against them.  TVR even being in this game is a surprise to me - he is just a bit too slow now, and the Oilers are damn fast.

I'd like to see them shake things up and bring up Miro or somebody else to send a message to some guys like Beauvy and Lappierre and Sourdif. Over the years, our franchise has been the worst about never making any controversial "healthy scratch" moves to motivate some guys. Even Protas could use a little cattle prod right now. He should be all over the ice and using that big body all the time. Lately, he has just been cruising.

Okay Beags...we need you to call out some more guys, cuz you have the touch or something.  Protas, Beavy both scored, even Sourdiff had a good game and Milano got in and had some great looks too.  Who else has been slacking?  Think on it and get back to us - we need some more of this, :)   Can you do anything about TVR?  Lappy needs some more effort...you need to REALLY focus on him.

Ha! Yes, I was thinking that as I was watching them - so now I will call out Sandin. Every once in a while he just plays a terrible game and makes stupid mental errors, makes terrible passes and just plays lousy - last night was one of those games!

I'm glad you commented on Ed Olcyzk.  I actually think he was drunk. He kept chiming in at awkward times and was trying to engage the other announcers in crazy stuff  I think he was trying to be cute/funny, but it went over like a lead balloon. Half the time he just made no sense and you could tell the other guys were caught by surprise.  He has gone through a cancer battle and they have been nice to him so maybe they just tolerate it now.

I too was screaming at the TV when I saw Ovie out there on the 6 on 5!  I know they want him to get the empty netter, but they gotta be smart.  I wish they would cut him way back on the PP time as well. Put him out there for the first 30 seconds and then switch.  We really need Ovie to retire after this year.....

I almost commented on Sandin - honestly thought he has played better over the last stretch, moving puck better, making better/smarter passes, but last night he WAS noticeable...in the WRONG way.  Hyman beat him like a rented mule to a faceoff that WE won and then off the boards to the middle of the ice leading directly to a goal.  Honestly I think size and strength really hampered Sandin there,  but he was tossed around like a ragdoll quite a bit last night.

Yes Eddie was more of a distraction and I agree - the goalie...Boucher was especially bothered by him I thought.  But Then the whole TNT hockey night crew is a bit out of bounds in the studio sometimes.  Like they are just ramping up the comedy and entertainment to try and make it fun.  I am a little surprised some of the expert guys (Wayne, Henrik, and even Chelios) put up with the Hijinx as well as they do.  I don't mind a little silliness and them having fun, but it seems they try a bit too hard with it too often.  Bissonnette usually leads that charge.

Last night the radio broadcast was nearly synchronized with the tv broadcast, so I listened to Walton call the game while watching it. The one time I turned up the volume on the tv, olcyzk was making asinine comments about Wilson. He has obviously never watched Wilson play in the last ten years and was going off memory of his very early days as an enforcer.

Go back and watch Leonard's 2nd goal again - on the slow mo reverse angle you see that sneaky little bastard takes his stick off the puck to swing around and lift check/bat Boucher's stick away, then goes back to the puck and brings it around to now open backhand.  I'm sure that's done all the time but the reverse angle shows how obvious this was.

I don't understand the hate (well, that's a strong word) lets go with disrespect these "national" game commentators give the Caps. They really don't even try to hide it. One time last night, they were going on about how Skinner was keeping them in the game. "Great save this, great save that".. Then the Oil, maybe it was McJesus? Breaks in and shoots. LT makes the save.. "Great save by LT" ?? Nah.. "He's in, and the puck goes off Thompson". lol Like bro was just standing there doing nothing and it luckily hit him. lol

They also made some dig at LT and the Canada Olympic team. I guess Skinner wants the job as well. They said something like (as Skinner was getting shellacked) I wouldn't put much into how they look now, I'd wait till the time comes and see who's hot.  ::)

Yes, TNT has gotten sloppier over the last year and is trying to hard to be like the podcast Bros - or like their NBA show with Shaq and Barcley.  Bissonnette can be good at times, but takes it too far. The host - can't remember his name - Liam? - is a poor ringmaster and they need to get back to hockey.  I think Chelios was not amused and tried to be more on point.  I love when they do interviews and Anson Carter always goes - "Hey Willy - this is Ace" - like anybody knows who "Ace" is. He was a decent player that had a couple good years, but was nothing great. The only guy I like on that show is Lundquist when he is on - very classy and good insight.
