I'd lean towards Montreal except they ended us in the first round way back when we prolly had our best team and shot ever way back when.  But then, what team hasn't ended the Caps in the first round?

Rich - I have often thought of that year that we lost to Montreal and that was by far the best team they have ever had. There were about three years there that I told my girls (who I took to tons of games) that they had the best team I had ever seen and would win the Cup for sure....

I did get to take my girls to he Finals games in DC and that was one of the highlights of my life!

Yes, i bought the whole playoff package for that year where we lost to Montreal in the 1st round.  I think we had like 50 shots on goal one game, dominated the game, and still lost.  It was very disappointing.  Ended in the 1st round.  pfffffffffffff

The cup year was phenomenal. It just kept building and building with excitement and anticipation with every round.  Well, except Vegas - by the time we got to Vegas it felt like we had it.  For lifelong Caps fans, it was certainly one of the best moments in sports history for us.

So i have a question.....the other night Canes vs Ottowa, the canes scored a goal that was later ruled offsides so no goal, but then a penalty shot was awarded for the slash on the Cane who originally shot the puck (and didn't score)...the goal came after but was then overturned.

HOW can you award a penalty shot to a player that shoots the puck after being offsides?  If the play if offsides, they reset the clock and start from when the offsides occurred. Did the refs make a mistake or is this correct?  I mean you call back the goal for offsides, but not the penalty?  I could understand if it was a fighting or penalty occurring after the whistle or unrelated to the goal, but the penalty was after the offsides, but before the goal (which was overturned for offsides)

It doesn’t make sense to me either, but there is apparently something in the rule book that allowed the penalty to stand.

It’s a tad early to be talking about this as nothing is going to happen until the playoffs are over in another two months. But Caps management has confirmed they what to add a top six forward and a right handed Dman this summer. As it stands, they have, seemingly, plenty of cap space.

Yea, I think penalties can still be earned after reviewed infractions, like offside or high stick, etc. Calling a penalty shot was a little over the top though, imo. Seen plenty of heavy/slash/hook penalties right at the net w/o a "shot" being awarded..

so what is odd is that NOT in this case, but it is possible based on this scenario that the GWG could be scored in OT and the game ends and the time of the goal would be later than the official time of the penalty.
Say they gave a 2 minute minor instead of the penalty shot (which they prolly should have)....
The offsides was at say 17:00 minutes and the penalty later in the play, like 45 seconds later, so at 17:45.  They score at 17:46, then review, call back the goal for offsides, but the penalty stands.  They reset the clock at 17:00, then on the PP, they score 20 seconds later at 17:20.
GWG in OT scored at 17:20 on a penalty called at 17:45.    .  Now THAT's some redneck math right there.

When Crosby got that embellishment penalty last night, the tv crew noted it was his first career and how shocked they were at that.

Haha, i love it.  Fn Crybaby.  This was definitely embelishment.  He did get a tap from Hathy's stick, but the reaction looks like Mike Tyson (of old) caught him with a mean uppercut.

All kinds of whining from Hens fans talking about this on the interwebs.  Saying he has NEVER taking an embellishment penalty.
Well..he has never been called maybe, but this ain't his first diving competition.

Glad Philthy is playing man hockey against these prima donna girls.  Also good to see Hathy making a difference.  Hope they sweep them fuckers
I love Tochett as their coach. He's about perfect for Philly.  Just checked his stats, he was a 3-time 40 goal scorer, got 48 one year.  I remember him being a tough power forward with scoring punch, but i would not have thought 48 for him.

I find it hard to believe that Hathy did that accidentally.

I wonder how long it's been since a 19-year-old won this award.  Probably awhile, because Protas got into the AHL because of his international status.  Players who play junior hockey in North America are not allowed in the AHL until age 20 - before that, they either need to be on an NHL roster or they have to return to juniors.

Round 1, Carolina swept Ottawa and Colorado swept the Kings. Damn shame Pilly couldn’t pull that off.

Carbery did in studio analysis during the Ducks Oilers game last night. He’s got a career in broadcasting if this coaching thing doesn’t work out.

Well, our draft pick from Anaheim looks like it is slipping. How in the world does Edmonton not handle the Ducks easily?  That winning goal last night was debatable, but looked like it was over the line- however, the whistle probably should have been blown.  Edmonton might not have won anyway, but now they are in big trouble. So our pick could get substantially worse.

Toronto has ruled that a no goal, several times and recently. There has to be visual proof of the puck over the line per the rule book. The replay we got at home didn’t have visual proof. If Toronto has a better replay they need to share that with the fans.

Caps will need a new assistant coach..
