The Caps suddenly have a plethora of D men. I’d say at least two gotta go. TvR becoming a UFA is one. Liljegren, the guy management traded Carlson for, is also going to be a UFA. Not that I’m upset Carlson got traded. It’s a far better option than resigning him for feels. Liljegren didn’t look bad in what little we’ve seen him play. But I need to see more of him before making a decision. I don’t  see trading Carlson for a 12 game rental. But it’s hard to tell with this team.

Did we get him in the trade or did we spend a draft pick for him? If he was just part of the deal, then I guess it's fine. He didn't stand out in the games played and that's probably a good thing. But can't believe they saw everything they needed in 2 or whatever games though. They've seen TVR all season. Who knows. Same deal with the center.

Both guys appear to be defensive minded since they only have like 3 goals and 14 assists "combined" from about 80 games this season.

Yeah i thought the outgoing pick for the Dman was a bit odd, but considering they sent their ice time leader dman packing (and amen to that), i think it was just a fill in...or maybe worth it to see what the guy had as a possible re-sign.  I would expect to see him play the rest of the season though.  And maybe they didn't know if Hutson was going to sign pro...OR if he'd be ready if he did.
I certainly expect to see TVR gone over the summer.
They have 9 D right now, but BigMac is just a fill in, Chisholm seems to only make the roster when they are short, and TVR and Liljegren are FA's so it really not that many.  I have a suspicion that Carbs likes Liljegren (from history with him) and the team wanted a real look at him to see if he was worth signing.  They know they have some open spots next season so...

They traded a 4th round pick for Liljegran. Not much, but not nothing either. I think Hutson will play the rest of the season as he is something to get the fanbase excited about and will help on season ticker renewals. Not sure why they don't like Chisholm more. I think he has played well, but he isn't seeming to stick. TVR is definitely gone and Big Mac is as well - maybe retires. So I guess they need either Chisholm or Liljegran for depth unless somebody else is ready to step up.

Long- term, I worried about the lack of size and toughness of our D. TVR had his issues, but at least he was decent sized.

33 year old McIlrath and 26 year old Chisholm still have one more season under contract. Management is going to have put someone on waivers next September or trade someone over the summer.

As much as we are all reconciled to the fact that the Caps aren't going to make the playoffs, today was probably the death knell.  All 8 teams immediately ahead of the Caps in the playoff standings, who the Caps have a conceivable chance of catching, played today.  Five of them have already won, and a 6th will win, because the remaining pertinent game in progress is Detroit/Boston, two of the 8 teams.

To make the playoffs, the Caps have to pass 4 of them, and all of them have at least a game in hand.  There's too much distance and too little time.

So after a few games, I like what I see from Hutson.  He has the potential to be as good or better than his brother and he is the new type of offensive defensemen that seem to be very effective.  He seems to be totally offensive and kinda floats around the D zone. He is definitely not the type that will sit in the crease and try and clear a guy out.

He also will find it tougher going as teams figure him out and his shuck and jive moves may backfire more, but he is gonna be entertaining!

Caps in Salt Lake City at 9pm, I was looking for an update on Kampf and got distracted. I will put the GDT up after dinner.

The Caps aren’t technically out of the playoffs yet. But, Columbus, Boston, Pittsburgh and the Islanders would need to go on a multi game losing streak and the Caps would need to go on a multi game winning streak. This scenario seems highly unlikely.

In the post practice presser today coach said Protas is out at least one game, maybe more. Upper body. I’d be surprised if it’s not more. No update on Frank. Maybe we finally get to see Kampf play.

Vegas fired Bruce Cassidy after losing to the Caps Saturday night, hired Torts as a replacement.

Good on John Q.  I hope he has success.
I was gonna post a few games back....Have we missed John Carlson since his departure?  At all?  I mean not to be mean, but seriously, has our game suffered at all?  (Hutson has made a positive difference stepping in and certainly taken what were some of John's minutes), so it's hard to measure but i do not see us being worse off.
