An EXTREME example of this in the case of the Caps is the elephant in the room - what is going to happen with Ovie?  He has been among the greatest to ever play the game, for a VERY long time.  But we know that he is now a very limited player (no criticism: Father Time is undefeated), and his remaining capabilities have to be managed, which causes the coach to have to juggle other players in the forward rotation to accommodate when it is advisable to play Ovie and when it isn't.  In light of that, what has Ovie earned IF he wants to come back this upcoming season?  Has the earned the right to get a contract for any non-ludicrous amount (say, up to $10 million?)  Should the Caps say "we'd like you back, but only up to a certain salary point (to pick a number, say, $5 million.  And if this is the right course of action, the next question is, what should that max number be?)?  Or should the Caps say "We as an organization need to move on.  We aren't going to offer you a contract, and you can become a free agent if you wish."?

BlackIce - at this point, I think it is 95% that Ovi is coming back and if so, it is 100% that it will be as a Capital. There is no way Leonsis will let Ovi not finish out as a Cap. Ovi can basically name his price and Ted has to say yes. On the salary front, Ovi could take one of two positions.

1. He is the greatest goal scorer of all time and arguably has been underpaid in the past. He can demand that highest salary in history and deserves to be recognized in his last year. Gotta pay him at least $15 million!

2. He recognizes that his skills have diminished and the club needs to pay other guys and bring in talent so they have a chance at the playoffs - so he takes a team-friendly deal at $8 million (no way he takes less than that).

Let's just hope he doesn't demand 2 years.

Colorado is a disappointment so far

Missing Makar.. I didn't pay attention over the weekend. Seen that NC rebounded vs the Habs.  ::)

*5 minutes into the 3rd, tied 2-2. Habs have 11 shots on goal.. Doesn't seem feasible this holds up much longer. They're even worse than us at putting pucks on net.

They're cooked. They couldn't even register a shot on goal the last 25+ minutes of play. Im gonna predict the series doesn't go past game 6. And they'll be lucky if it makes it that far..

Yeah i think Montreal's has used up all their good luck.  Can't continue to win when consistently being out played 85% of every game.

Colorado ---OOF.  Thought they were better.  Haven't really watched due to timing, but I honestly don't care except that I don't like Vegas.

I really have no interest in any team left, and the games have not been great this year.

Well, at least 1 team is playing D.. VGK completely shut down the best offense in the NHL, again. It was cringe watching. I kept waiting for something to happen, but all they (Col) had was a lucky bounce deflection with 1min to go.. The other 59 minutes they basically got dominated. I didn't pay enough attention to the series to know what Vegas did exactly, but I heard the announcers say they adjusted the way they played D against "the best skating/top offensive team in the league". (Think they said they took away the middle of the ice, protected the "house") but whatever it was, the Caps need to take notes!

Probably not gonna watch much of VGN vs NC. Can't stomach either tbh. But maybe, if the Habs can... nevermind, aint happening. lol

Shocking that Colorado lost.  Vegas management (McPhee) is looking good for replacing the coach mid way through the season. Bold move and it paid off.  Torts is a piece of work and the team is playing for him. Still can't believe Colorado lost.

Boo Hiss.  I watched first 2 periods...really was not holding my attention cuz i don't care about either team and was falling asleep.

This whole SC playoff season has been pretty blah for me since literally every team i had any interest in was beaten.
Doubt I will even watch the finals.  Not sure i have ever done that before.

For the sake of brevity, I hope the Canes win game 5. That, and no way the Habs defeat Vegas.

Yep, needs to be a quick death.. The finals will probably be some good hockey. Not sure my stomach can take it though. Can't stand either team. Hopefully it goes 7 and every home game is like 5-0, 6-1 for the opponent. Just embarrass both of em' until someone HAS to win it.  :snicker:

Yes, sadly i want the Canes to get it over with and we can get to the finals.  Canes and Vegas probably is a decent match up, I just don't really care about either one.

Vegas at Carolina game 1 is Tuesday.

Isle of Man TT is running, the race at Le Sarthe is in two weeks.
