Milano was put on IR two games ago to clear a roster spot for Chychrun being reactivated.

Players on IR or LTIR usually stay on the roster. Players than have been sent to the AHL shouldn’t be. Caps dot com is the worst run team website in the league. To verify who is in DC or Hershey, I usually check Hershey first. They make changes to the roster the second they get word a player is coming or going.

With Milano on IR, Oshie and Backy on LTIR, Sgarbossa and Iorio actually in Hershey, Eller makes 23 active players. Someone will have to go when Milano gets healthy. With the crappy cap sites still available for free, I can’t tell who is waiver exempt for Hershey and who isn’t. The only one we know at the moment is Lapierre is exempt. I have no idea about  McIlrath or Alexeyev. But as I recall, Alexeyev stayed in DC because he’s not exempt.

Reality always has a way of fucking shit up.    Gotta hold out hope JD is still nursing those ribs, but damn if he don't look average the last 2-3 weeks. Last night was the worst so far.

Quick...look at the Standings.  Caps are #1 in the division and in the whole Eastern conference, and #2 in all the NHL behind Winnipeg.
Canes and Devils play each other tonight, so one of them will go back into 1st tonight in the East

Caps just announced OV is out “week to week”. It sounds like they were still in Utah this morning as they said further updates will be announced after meeting with team doctors on Wednesday. So, he may or may not be injured, but definitely got hurt. There is a difference.

Just announced, the Caps have called up Miroshnichenko from Hershey to presumably fill an empty left wing slot.


The Caps obviously had yesterday off, I’m curious if this call was made yesterday so Miro was here for practice this morning.

Not a surprising move, but where does he slot?  It appears that lines 2 and 4 will remain intact, so I don't think McMichael is moving into Ovie's spot.


There's talk of Mangiapane moving up to 1LW, which would leave Vrana/Miro/Lapierre as potential wingers for Eller.


Alternatively, one could just slot Miro at 1LW, not disrupting anything else.  OR move Vrana to 1LW to reward him for his recent good play, and have Miro/Mangiapane flanking Eller.

Putting Miro at 1L so nothing else is disrupted would be my first move.

OV was moved to IR. So he’s out at least 10 days. Assuming OV was put on IR yesterday, it appears the earliest he can play is Nov 30 vs the Devils. He will miss 5 games minimum.


The Caps also retroactively put Milano on LTIR, which is usually a salary move. Milano will be eligible to play Nov 29 vs the Islanders.

I'm betting Ovie is out more like 3-4 weeks so he'd miss about 10-12 games.  Then, he'll need to get back in game shape.  This was really unfortunate.

With the quotes coming out from Vrana and Wilson ("It was emotional at first.." "We have to learn to win w/o Ovi..") Im fully expecting he's done for the year. Fans of DC sports know, you can't have nice things.    Guess they'll tell us more tomorrow.

Meh...end well?  doesn't start well (the injury), but the old Russian will return.  Give the old guy some rest 1/4 way into season...then few weeks to recover, be back to top form in time for playoffs

If he's done for the season, imo he's not getting 26 goals or whatever next season. It wont end well..


edit: BUT! Get this, it wasn't even his knee.. lol He has a fractured fibula. Out 4-6 weeks. And again, I'll take it!! Anything but surgery on fucking ligaments!!!

Caps just announced..

“Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin underwent further evaluation with team doctors. It was confirmed that Ovechkin has a fracture to his left fibula and is anticipated to miss 4-6 weeks.”

I would guess he will be put on LTIR retroactively

given the type of athlete he’s been I wouldn’t be surprised if he heals faster than average, but I’m not prepared to bet money on that
